Why are identical products sold at different prices in different complexes?

Doha: The past few days witnessed many complaints from citizens and residents not only about the high prices, but also about the differences in the price of one food product between one commercial complex and another, and they raised many questions about the reasons for these differences and the role of consumer protection in controlling price manipulation and the greed of some traders.

Al-Raya toured three shopping malls to compare the prices of one food product between them. Indeed, it found differences in prices that start at 25 dirhams and reach up to 91 QR in some commodities. It also found a similarity in prices between malls.

For example, a shopping mall sells a frozen chicken carton from a famous brand weighing 1,300 grams at 188.5 QR, while the same brand sells for 97.50 QR in another mall, a difference reaching 91 QR, and a carton weighing 800 grams at one mall sold at a price of 135 QR, and sold in the other at a price of 95 QR by a difference of 40 QR all at once.

For some other food commodities, such as natural ghee from a Qatari brand, it is sold for 29 QR in a shopping mall, while it is sold for 36 QR in the other two centers, while a certain Kuwaiti flour is sold in a shopping mall for 25 QR per bag weighing 5 kg, while in the other two commercial centres it is sold for 23 QR, and these differences extend to most goods from salt, tea, meat and powdered milk to slices of bread.

Citizens told Al-Raya: The phenomenon of high prices needs a serious action from the department of consumer protection and the application of regulations and laws that prevent monopoly and determine a profit margin that satisfies both parties, whether consumer or trader, as well as reducing shipping fees, which have become a global phenomenon with keenness to strengthen the national food industries and obliging manufacturers to cap a specific price without exceeding it.

They stressed the importance of the concerned authorities’ keenness to intensify awareness campaigns on rationalization to change the culture of consumer society and push them to leave goods with noticeable high prices and try to find the appropriate alternative by buying their needs from wholesale shops and markets scattered in many regions and cities within the country, in addition to the need to go to buy fish, vegetables, fruit and meat from central markets that sell goods at appropriate prices compared to commercial markets.

الدوحة: شهدت الأيام الماضية شكاوى العديد من المواطنين والمُقيمين ليس فقط من غلاء الأسعار وإنما من الفروق في سعر المُنتج الغذائي الواحد بين مجمع تجاري وآخر، وأثاروا العديد من التساؤلات عن أسباب هذه الفروق ودور حماية المُستهلك في ضبط التلاعب في الأسعار وجشع بعض التجّار.

وقامت الراية بجولة في ثلاثة مجمعات تجاريّة للمقارنة بين أسعار المنتج الغذائي الواحد بينها، وبالفعل وجدت فروقاً في الأسعار تبدأ بـ 25 درهماً وتصل في بعض السلع إلى 91 ريالاً، كما وجدت تطابقاً في الأسعار بين مجمعات تجاريّة، فعلى سبيل المثال يقوم مركز تجاري ببيع كرتونة الدجاج المجمد من علامة تجاريّة شهيرة بوزن 1300 جرام بسعر 188.5 ريال، بينما تباع نفسها بسعر 97.50 ريال في مركز تجاري آخر، أي بفارق 91 ريالًا، أما الكرتونة زنة 800 جرام فتباع في أحد المراكز التجارية بسعر 135 ريالاً، بينما تباع في الآخر بسعر 95 ريالاً بفارق 40 ريالاً دفعة واحدة.

وبالنسبة لبعض السلع الغذائيّة الأخرى مثل السمن الطبيعي من علامة تجاريّة قطريّة، حيث يباع بسعر 29 ريالاً في أحد مراكز التسوق، بينما يباع بسعر 36 ريالاً في المركزين الآخرين، وبالنسبة للدقيق الكويتي، يباع في مركز تجاري بسعر 25 ريالاً للكيس زنة 5 كج، بينما يباع في المركزين التجاريين الآخرين بسعر 23 ريالًا، و هذه الفروقات تمتد لمعظم البضائع من دقيق وملح وشاي واللحم والحليب المجفف حتى شرائح الخبز.

وقال مواطنون لـ الراية : إن ظاهرة ارتفاع الأسعار تحتاج إلى وقفة جادّة من إدارة حماية المستهلك وتطبيق اللوائح والقوانين التي تمنع الاحتكار وتحديد هامش ربح يرضي الطرفين سواء المستهلك أو التاجر، فضلاً عن تخفيض رسوم الشحن التي أصبحت ظاهرة عالميّة مع الحرص على تعزيز الصناعات الغذائيّة الوطنيّة وإلزام المُصنعين بسقف أسعار مُحدّد دون تجاوزه.

وشددوا على أهمية حرص الجهات المعنيّة على تكثيف الحملات التوعويّة الخاصة بالترشيد لتغيير ثقافة المجتمع الاستهلاكيّة ودفعهم نحو ترك السلع التي يلاحظون ارتفاعاً في أسعارها ومحاولة إيجاد البديل المناسب عبر شراء احتياجاتهم من محلات وأسواق بيع الجملة المنتشرة في العديد من المناطق والمدن داخل البلاد، بالإضافة إلى ضرورة التوجّه لشراء الأسماك والخضراوات والفاكهة واللحوم من الأسواق المركزيّة التي تبيع السلع بأسعار مُناسبة مُقارنة بالأسواق التجاريّة.
