Underage driving in Qatar .. a fatal phenomenon

Doha: A number of citizens called on the competent authorities to find a strict mechanism to curb the phenomenon of young people driving cars under the legal age.

In exclusive statements to Al-Raya, they confirmed that traffic accidents caused by underage motorists who do not have a driver’s license have become an imminent danger to everyone.

They said: This phenomenon is noticeable in the camping season, when many parents allow their children to drive in the camping areas, and some of them even get the vehicle without the parents’ knowledge, and they drive these vehicles with their peers to show off, go off-road and speed race with other drivers.

They stressed that some parents encourage their underage children to drive cars, and that the concerned authorities do not apply the laws strictly and tolerate this category, and the evidence for this is that a large number of adolescents under the age of 18 drive cars to get to schools, where everyone notices this phenomenon in most secondary schools in the country.

الدوحة: دَعَا عددٌ من المُواطنين الجهات المُختصة لإيجاد آلية مُشدَّدة للحدِّ من ظاهرة قيادة اليافعين تحت السنِّ القانونية للسيَّارات.

وأكَّدَ هؤلاء في تصريحات خاصة لـ الراية أنَّ الحوادث المرورية الناتجة عن قائدي السيارات تحت السن القانونية ممن لا يملكون رخصة قيادة، أصبحت تشكل خطرًا داهمًا على الجميع.

وقالوا: إنَّ هذه الظاهرة ملحوظة في موسم التخييم، حيث يسمح الكثير من أولياء الأمور لأولادهم بالقيادة في مناطق التخييم، كما أنَّ بعضهم يحصل على المركبة دون علم الآباء، ويقومون بقيادة تلك المركبات برفقة أقرانهم للاستعراض والتطعيس وسباقات سرعة مع سائقين آخرين.

وأكَّدوا أنَّ بعض أولياء الأمور يشجِّعون أبناءهم على قيادة السيارات، كما أنَّ الجهات المعنية لا تطبق القوانين بحذافيرها وتتساهل مع هذه الفئة، والدليل على ذلك قيادة عدد كبير من اليافعين ممن لا تتجاوز أعمارهم 18 عامًا السيارات أثناء ذهابهم للمدارس، حيث يلاحظ الجميع هذه الظاهرة في معظم مدارس الثانوية في البلاد.
