HBKU Presents Workshop on Translating News and Views

Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)s Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) recently presented an on line workshop titled “Translating News and Views” to help participants develop the skills required to become effective translators and editors in the media sector.
The workshop led by Assistant Professor at CHSS Dr. Ashraf Abdel Fattah, discussed how to handle the translation and editing of complex journalistic texts in a busy news environment, including print or television media.
The workshop was divided into four parts, the first exploring the various types, genres, and modes of media texts. The second addressed the challenges commonly encountered by media translators and interpreters. The third and fourth provided the trainees with an opportunity to reflect on the main theoretical issues as they analyzed media translations and interpreting.
Through TII, the college offers a full program of high-level training workshops, language programs, as well as quality professional translation and interpreting services. CHSS currently offers an interdisciplinary Masters (MA) in Translation Studies and an MA in Audiovisual Translation, both delivered by TII and internationally validated by the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
The college is launching its third MA in Intercultural Communication in the academic year 2022-2021. Interested students should visit chss.hbku.edu.qa.

الدوحة: قدَّم معهد دراسات الترجمة بجامعة حمد بن خليفة، ورشة عبر الانترنت بعنوان “ترجمة الأخبار والآراء” بهدف تطوير المهارات اللازمة للمشاركين ليصبحوا مترجمين ومحررين أكفاء في مجال الإعلام.
وتناولت الورشة التي قدمها الدكتور أشرف عبد الفتاح، الأستاذ المساعد في كلية العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية بالجامعة، كيفية التعامل مع ترجمة النصوص الصحفية المعقدة وتحريرها في بيئة إخبارية مزدحمة، بما في ذلك وسائل الإعلام المطبوعة أو المرئية.
وتضمنت أربع مراحل، الأولى خصصت للأنواع والأنماط المختلفة للنصوص الإعلامية، والثانية للحديث حول أهم التحديات التي يواجهها المترجمون التحريريون والفوريون خلال ترجمتهم للنصوص والمقابلات الصحفية والإعلامية، وأتاحت المرحلتان الثالثة والرابعة للمتدربين فرصةً للتفكير في المسائل النظرية الرئيسية أثناء تحليلهم للترجمة التحريرية والفورية الإعلامية.
وتقدم كلية العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية بجامعة حمد بن خليفة، من خلال معهد دراسات الترجمة، برنامجًا متكاملاً من ورش العمل التدريبية رفيعة المستوى، وبرامج تعلم اللغات، فضلاً عن خدمات الترجمة التحريرية والفورية عالية الجودة. وتطرح الكلية حاليًا برنامج ماجستير متعدد التخصصات في دراسات الترجمة، وبرنامج ماجستير في الترجمة السمعية البصرية، يقدمهما المعهد وهما حائزان على شهادة الاعتماد الأكاديمي الدولي من جامعة جنيف في سويسرا.
وقد أطلقت الكلية مؤخرًا برنامجها الثالث للماجستير في التواصل بين الثقافات خلال العام الدراسي 2021 – 2022. ويمكن للطلاب المهتمين زيارة chss.hbku.edu.qa.
