Doha: Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi, Consultant Pediatrician at Sidra Medicine, confirmed that vaccinating children aged 5-11 years against Coronavirus is optional and safe.
Dr. Al Hammadi added via his Twitter account that vaccination complies with the recommendations and scientific consensus of academic societies of pediatrics, the World Health Organization, and the European and American disease prevention centers with priority given to children with chronic illnesses.
The Ministry of Public Health announced yesterday its approval to administer the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine to children aged 5 to 11.
The ministry said the approval is in line with the latest local and international studies that have shown the safety and effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for this age group, as well as clinical evidence from several countries around the world that have already begun vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11.
MoPH explained that the vaccine dose will be one third of that used for the older age groups, and receiving this dose is associated with only minor side effects.

الدوحة: أكد الدكتور أحمد الحمادي استشاري طب الأطفال في سدرة للطب، أن تطعيم الأطفال من عمر 5-11 عاماً ضد كورونا اختياري وآمن.
وأضاف الدكتور الحمادي عبر حسابه في تويتر، أن التطعيم يتوافق مع التوصيات والإجماع العلمي من الجمعيات الأكاديمية لطب الاطفال، ومنظمة الصحة العالمية، ومركزيّ الوقاية من الأمراض الأوروبي والأمريكي مع اعطاء الأولوية للأطفال المصابين بأمراض مزمنه.
وأعلنت وزارة الصحة العامة يوم أمس موافقتها على إعطاء لقاح “فايزر-بيونتيك” للتطعيم ضد فيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19) للأطفال من عمر 5 إلى 11 عاماً.
وبينت الوزارة أن هذه الموافقة تأتي تماشياً مع أحدث الدراسات المحلية والعالمية التي أظهرت سلامة وفعالية لقاح “فايزر-بيونتيك” لهذه الفئة العمرية، بالإضافة إلى الأدلة السريرية المتوفرة من عدة دول من مختلف أنحاء العالم والتي بدأت بالفعل في تطعيم الأطفال الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 5 و 11 عاماً.
وأوضحت أن جرعة اللقاح ستكون بمقدار الثلث من تلك المستخدمة للفئات العمرية الأكبر سناً ولا يرتبط تلقي هذه الجرعة إلا بأعراض جانبية طفيفة فقط.
