QSI Looking for Holding New Global Padel Tour

Doha: Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) announced today that it is looking into the possibility of holding a new global professional competition series for padel.
The company added, in a statement, that this tournament, if approved, will have a significant impact on the global padel sport and will play a pivotal role in the lives of professional players who will be treated as elite global athletes, under the umbrella of a global and professional federation.
The statement indicated that the tournament will open the door to Arab professionals and amateurs, who are increasingly accepting the padel sport, as one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
The statement added that the International Padel Federation (FIP), in addition to a group of players, contacted Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Nasser Al Khelaifi, after the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation hosted a Padel tour, which was considered the best Padel tour ever, during Qatar’s hosting of the Padel World Championship in November.
The initial event vision for the new series would involve around 10 tournaments held across the world in 2022 and 2023, it is claimed, this could rise to a minimum of 30 in 2024, all featuring significantly greater prize money than that currently offered.
QSI and its Chairman, Nasser Al Khelaifi, held talks with the new Padel Professional Players Association (PPA) and the International Padel Federation (FIP) to discuss plans to expand this sport globally, while a decision has not yet been taken in this regard.
The sport, which is a hybrid of tennis and squash, is already hugely popular in the world and is enjoying rapid growth and has witnessed a global turnout from amateur and professional participants, and is witnessing great growth in the Arab world, where Qatar today includes about 20,000 players and practitioners of this sport.

وأضافت الشركة، في بيان لها، أن هذه البطولة في حال تم إقرارها، سيكون لها تأثير كبير على رياضة البادل العالمية وستلعب دورا محوريا في حياة اللاعبين المحترفين الذين سيتم التعامل معهم على أنهم من نخبة الرياضيين العالميين، وذلك تحت مظلة اتحاد عالمي واحترافي.
وأشار البيان إلى أن البطولة ستفتح الباب أمام المحترفين والهواة من المواهب العربية، الذين يقبلون على رياضة البادل بشكل متزايد، باعتبارها واحدة من الرياضات الأسرع نموا في العالم.
وأضاف البيان أن الاتحاد الدولي للبادل بالإضافة إلى مجموعة من اللاعبين تواصلوا مع السيد ناصر الخليفي رئيس مجلس إدارة الشركة، وذلك بعد ما استضاف الاتحاد القطري للتنس والاسكواش والريشة الطائرة جولة للبادل اعتبرت أفضل جولة بادل على الإطلاق، وذلك خلال استضافة قطر بطولة العالم للبادل في شهر نوفمبر الماضي.
وأوضح البيان أن المخطط الأولي لبطولة البادل العالمية الجديدة سيشمل إقامة 10 بطولات دولية خلال عامي 2022 و2023 بما في ذلك أربع بطولات كبرى (غراند سلام)، التي من المتوقع أن تنطلق مطلع مارس 2022 في قطر، وقد يرتفع هذا العدد إلى 30 بطولة خلال 2024، حيث سيحظى الفائزون بها بجوائز مالية تفوق قيمتها الجوائز المقدمة حاليا.
وقد أجرت شركة قطر للاستثمارات الرياضية ورئيس مجلس إدارتها السيد ناصر الخليفي محادثات مع رابطة لاعبي البادل المحترفين الجديدة، والاتحاد الدولي للبادل لمناقشة مخطط توسعة هذه الرياضة عالميا، فيما لم يتم حتى الآن اتخاذ قرار بهذا الشأن بعد.
وتعتبر رياضة البادل، التي تجمع بين التنس والاسكواش، واحدة من الرياضات الأسرع نموا في العالم، وشهدت هذه الرياضة إقبالا عالميا من المشاركين الهواة والمحترفين، كما تشهد نموا كبيرا في العالم العربي، حيث تضم قطر اليوم، حوالي 20 ألف لاعب وممارس لهذه الرياضة.
