Dr. Al-Rumaihi reveals the reasons for the rise in Covid cases in Qatar

Doha: The demand for the booster doses has increased and the government has designated several medical facilities for COVID-19 patients.
“Many medical facilities have been designated to take care of COVID-19 patients, including the Communicable Disease Centre, the Field Hospital under Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital and the Cuban Hospital,” said Dr. Hamad Al Rumaihi, Director of the Health Protection and Communicable Diseases Control Department at the Ministry of Public Health.
He also said that there are several hospitals that were providing services to COVID-19 patients earlier are ready if needed to join these hospitals.
Al Rumaihi explained, “The goal of the third dose is to protect public against the Omicron variant, which has spread to 107 countries around the world.
“The golden frame in Ehteraz gives several advantages, including exemption from quarantine in Qatar and entry to workplaces, restaurants, clubs, barbershops and other public places.”
“During the past two months, we have noticed an increase in the number of virus cases in community and perhaps the most affected segment is children, in addition to people who have had a decrease in immunity due to the passage of more than 6 months after the second dose of the vaccine, and with the advent of the winter season in which viruses spread more rapidly,” he added, while speaking to Qatar TV yesterday.
About the vaccination drive, he said that 86 percent of the population have been vaccinated and more than 5 million doses of vaccines have been provided in Qatar.
About the booster dose, Al Rumaihi noted that it started on September 15 and since then more than 247,000 people have received booster shots.
“We hope that the community will take the initiative to take the third dose and we expect an increase in the number of cases in the coming days,” he added.
He noted that new medical studies have shown that the protective immunity acquired from vaccines begins to decline six months after receiving the second dose.

الدوحة: دعا الدكتور حمد الرميحي مدير إدارة حماية الصحة ومكافحة الأمراض الانتقالية بوزارة الصحة العامة المواطنين والمقيمين إلى سرعة الحصول على الجرعة الثالثة لمن تنطبق عليه الشروط خاصة مع وجود توقعات بارتفاع عدد الإصابات خلال الأسابيع المقبلة .. منوهًا بأن الإقبال على التطعيم يؤكد وعيهم وحرصهم على صحة وسلامة المجتمع.
وحول أسباب ارتفاع حالات الإصابة بكورونا في قطر خلال الفترة الحالية، قال د. الرميحي: رصدنا خلال الشهرين الماضيين زيادة في أعداد الإصابات، حيث كان الجزء الاكبر منها لأطفال غير مطعمين، وكذلك للأشخاص الذين هبطت لديهم المناعة لمرور 6 أشهر على التطعيم بالجرعة الثانية، فضلاً عن دخول فصل الشتاء الذي ينشط فيه الفيروس الموسمي.
وأضاف: لاحظنا أيضاَ زيادة في الحالات التي تحتاج إلى الدخول إلى المستشفيات، ونحن على أتم استعداد للتعامل مع ارتفاع حالات الإصابة بفكوفيد-19 حيث تم تخصيص عدة مرافق صحية لمتابعة حالات كوفيد-19 ومنها مركز الأمراض الانتقالية والمستشفى الكوبي ومستشفى حزم مبيريك، وهناك إمكانية لزيادة القدرة الاستيعابية عند الحاجة وضم مستشفيات جديدة لمكافحة كوفيد-19.
وتابع د. الرميحي: نتوقع خلال الأسابيع الثمانية المقبلة ارتفاع حالات الإصابة بكورونا، وندعو أفراد المجتمع إلى المبادرة بأخذ الجرعة الثالثة، وتوخي الحذر والالتزام بالجراءات الاحترازية ولبس الكمامات والتباعد الاجتماعي وذلك على الأقل خلال الأشهر الثلاثة المقبلة حتى نهاية فصل الشتاء.
وقال د. الرميحي، لتلفزيون قطر مساء أمس، إن الهدف من الجرعة المعززة هو تعزيز لمناعة أفراد المجتمع، حيث أظهرت الدراسات الحديثة أن المناعة الوقائية المكتسبة من اللقاحات تبدأ في الانخفاض بعد مرور ستة أشهر على تلقي الجرعة الثانية، وبناء على تلك الدراسات عدلت الوزارة فترة المناعة المكتسبة من اللقاحات من 12 شهرًا إلى 9 أشهر.
وأوضح أن التعديل ينسجم مع الإجراءات التي يقوم بها العديد من الدول حول العالم ومن ضمنها الدول المجاورة ودول الاتحاد الأوروبي التي أعلنت أن الجرعة المعززة من التطعيمات إلزامية للمسافرين القادمين إليها، لافتًا إلى أن قطر من أوائل دول العالم حرصًا على توفير التطعيمات الآمنة والفعالة لتعزيز صحة وسلامة المجتمع. وقال إن الهدف من الجرعة الثالثة هو تعزيز المناعة للحماية من متحور أوميكرون المنتشر في 107 دول.
