QatarEnergy Enters Egypt’s Upstream Sector in Two Offshore Exploration Blocks

Doha: QatarEnergy entered into agreements with Shell to acquire working interests in two offshore exploration blocks in the Egyptian side of the Red Sea.
Under the terms of the agreements, which are subject to customary approvals by the government of Egypt, QatarEnergy will hold a 17% working interest in Red Sea Blocks 3 and 4.
Commenting on concluding these agreements, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said: “We are pleased with this important development, as it represents QatarEnergy’s entry into the Arab Republic of Egypt’s well-established upstream oil and gas sector and offers an opportunity for the consortium partners to explore this frontier acreage.”
HE the Minister added, “We are also delighted to have the opportunity to work with our strategic partner Shell, and to further develop our relationship with the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Egypt’s Tharwa Petroleum Company, and the other partners, whilst also pushing forward with QatarEnergy’s upstream growth strategy. I would like to thank the Egyptian authorities and our partners for their valuable support and cooperation.”
Block 3 was awarded to Shell in late 2019 and covers an area of 3,097 square kilometers in water depths of 100 to 1,000 meters. Block-4 was also awarded to Shell in late 2019 and covers an area of 3,084 square kilometers in water depths of 150 to 500 meters.
Upon closing of the relevant agreements, the working interests in the two blocks will be as follows:
– Block 3: Shell (Operator – 43%), BHP (30%), Tharwa Petroleum Company (10%) and QatarEnergy (17%).
– Block 4: Shell (Operator – 21%), Mubadala (27%), BHP (25%), Tharwa Petroleum Company (10%) and QatarEnergy (17%).

الدوحة: أبرمت قطر للطاقة اتفاقاً مع شركة /شل/ للاستحواذ على حصة في اتفاقيتين للاستكشاف والتنقيب بمنطقتين بحريتين قبالة السواحل المصرية على البحر الأحمر.
وبموجب الاتفاق، الذي يخضع للموافقات المعتادة للجهات الحكومية المصرية المختصة، ستمتلك قطر للطاقة حصة تبلغ 17 بالمئة في كل من المنطقتين الاستكشافيتين 3 و4.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة: “نحن سعيدون بإبرام اتفاقيات الاستحواذ الهامة هذه، والتي ستتيح لقطر للطاقة الدخول إلى قطاع الاستكشاف والتنقيب في جمهورية مصر العربية الشقيقة، وبالعمل مع شركائنا لاستكشاف هذه المنطقة البحرية”.
وأضاف سعادة الوزير الكعبي: “كما أننا نتطلع إلى التعاون والعمل مع شريكنا الاستراتيجي شركة /شل/، ولتعزيز علاقتنا مع وزارة البترول والثروة المعدنية، وشركة ثروة للبترول المصرية، والشركاء الآخرين في هذا المشروع المشترك، بينما نمضي قدماً في تنفيذ استراتيجية قطر للطاقة للنمو في قطاع الاستكشاف والتنقيب. وأود أن أتوجه بالشكر إلى السلطات المصرية المعنية وجميع الشركاء على دعمهم وتعاونهم”.
وكانت اتفاقيتا الاستكشاف والتنقيب للمنطقتين البحريتين قد مُنحتا لشركة /شل/ في أواخر عام 2019. وتغطي المنطقة 3 مساحة 3097 كيلومترا مربعا في مياه تتراوح أعماقها بين 100 و1000 متر، وتبلغ مساحة المنطقة 4 حوالي 3084 كيلومترا مربعا في مياه تتراوح أعماقها بين 150 و500 متر.
وعند اكتمال الإجراءات التعاقدية والموافقات اللازمة، ستكون حصص الشركاء في المنطقتين البحريتين على النحو التالي:
– المنطقة 3: شل (مشغل 43 بالمئة )، بي إتش بي (30 بالمئة)، شركة ثروة للبترول (10 بالمئة )، وقطر للطاقة (17 بالمئة ).
– المنطقة 4: شل (مشغل 21 بالمئة )، مبادلة (27 بالمئة )، بي إتش بي (25 بالمئة)، شركة ثروة للبترول (10 بالمئة)، وقطر للطاقة (17 بالمئة ).
