Doha: The purchasing movement in Souq Waqif stores has seen a recovery in sales traffic with the start of events accompanying the Arab Cup, as the large demand of citizens, residents and tourists to the market due to it being a heritage tourist destination that everyone is keen to visit and enjoy the heritage atmosphere it offers.
A number of traders and shopkeepers told Al Raya: Sales increased by up to 40%, especially in candy and nuts shops, where candy and nuts are a requirement for market visitors, due to their quality and cheap prices compared to prices in neighboring countries.
Shopkeepers expected the increase in sales by the end of the tournament to reach more than 70%, compared to their counterparts in non-tournament times, where Arab and foreign tourists buy souvenirs during their visits to the market and enjoy the accompanying events, a few days before they leave the country. The owners of popular and heritage restaurants confirmed the increased demand for the purchase of Qatari heritage foods, especially popular desserts by foreign tourists and their keenness to taste all traditional foods to get to know the Qatari community in the past because it suits all tastes other than its delicious taste.
They noted the demand of foreign tourists for souvenirs that include Qatari heritage, especially the country’s landmarks from the Qatari oryx, Zubara Fort and Al-Dafna towers.
Al-Raya lens monitored the high demand by foreign tourists at Souq Waqif shops, amidst large tourist groups from Europe, America and East Asian countries, who relied on tourism guides to get to know the market sections and experience luxury restaurants.

الدوحة: شهدت الحركةُ الشرائيةُ بمحالّ سوق واقف انتعاشًا في حركة المبيعات مع انطلاق الفعاليات المصاحبة لمونديال العرب، حيث الإقبال الكبير من المواطنين والمقيمين والسائحين على السوق باعتباره وجهةً سياحية تراثية يحرص الجميعُ على زيارتها والاستمتاع بالأجواء التراثية التي يوفرها.
وقال عدد من التجار وأصحاب المحال لـ الراية: إنَّ حركة المبيعات ارتفعت بنسبة تصل إلى 40%، خاصةً في محال الحلوى والمكسرات، حيث تعدّ الحلوى والمكسرات مَطلبًا لزوّار السوق، نظرًا لجودتها ورخص أسعارها قياسًا بالأسعار في دول الجوار.
وتوقّع أصحابُ المحال أن تصل نسبة الزيادة في المبيعات مع نهاية البطولة إلى أكثر من 70%، مقارنةً بنظيراتها في غير أوقات البطولة، حيث يقبل السياح العرب والأجانب على شراء الهدايا التذكارية خلال زياراتهم للسوق والاستمتاع بالفعاليات المصاحبة، وذلك قبل مغادرتهم البلاد بأيام قليلة. وأكّد أصحابُ المطاعم الشعبية والتراثية زيادة الإقبال على شراء الأطعمة التراثية القطرية، خاصةً الحلوى الشعبية من قبل السياح الأجانب وحرصهم على تذوّق كافة الأطعمة التراثية للتعرف على المجتمع القطري قديمًا، وذلك لتناسبه مع كافّة الأذواق وطعمه الرائع.
وأشاروا إلى إقبالِ السياح الأجانب على شراء الهدايا التذكارية التي تتضمن التراث القطري، خاصةً المعالم البارزة للبلاد من المها القطري وقلعة الزبارة وأبراج الدفنة.
ورصدت عدسةُ الراية إقبالًا كبيرًا من قبل السياح الأجانب على محال سوق واقف، وسط أفواج سياحية قادمة من أوروبا وأمريكا ودول شرق آسيا، الذين اعتمدوا على مرشدي السياحة للتعرف على أقسام السوق، وتجربة المطاعم الفاخرة.
