Qatar Airways Joins IATA CO2NNECT Platform

Doha: In partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Qatar Airways Cargo, the freight division of Qatar Airways Group, will become the first cargo carrier to join the IATA CO2NNECT platform and offer a customized environmental solution for its clients.
Kuehne+Nagel, one of the world’s leading freight forwarders, will be the launch customer for the platform, in line with their commitment to sustainability.
To mark this partnership, on 01 November 2021 Qatar Airways Cargo operated the first carbon-neutral air freight shipments from Doha to Frankfurt, Zaragoza, Lige and Paris.
This new chapter of the voluntary carbon offsetting program, built under an IATA umbrella, establishes an industry milestone to accelerate the decarbonization of aviation and enables air cargo shipments to become carbon neutral by offering an integrated carbon calculation and offset solution between Qatar Airways, shippers, and freight forwarders such as Kuehne+Nagel. It will provide its customers assurance that the credits bought to offset these emissions are from projects delivering independently verified carbon reductions, as well as wider environmental and social benefits.
The pilot project was launched on four (4) routes, with plans to extend to the rest of its cargo network of over sixty (60) freighter destinations and more than one-hundred forty (140) passenger destinations worldwide. The pilot uses an IATA industry best practice for calculating CO2 emissions per freight kg. With this program, cargo customers can easily offset the emissions associated with the air freight shipments, as a step towards achieving their environmental sustainability commitments. Only verified, high quality and ICAO CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) eligible offsets will be used.

الدوحة: أعلنت الخطوط الجوية القطرية، أنها ستصبح أول شركة شحن جوي تنضم إلى منصة /IATA CO2NNECT / والتي تقدم حلولا بيئية مبتكرة لعملائها، بالشراكة مع الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الجوي (الاياتا).
وستكون شركة /كونا+ناجل/، التي تعتبر واحدة من الشركات العالمية الرائدة للشحن والخدمات اللوجستية منصة الانطلاق لهذا البرنامج اتساقا مع التزامها بالاستدامة.
واحتفالا بهذه الشراكة، قامت القطرية للشحن الجوي في 1 نوفمبر 2021 بتشغيل أول رحلة شحن جوي حيادية من الكربون انطلاقا من الدوحة الى كل من فرانكفورت وسرقسطة ولييج وباريس.
وأكدت الخطوط الجوية القطرية، أن هذه المرحلة الجديدة من هذا البرنامج التطوعي في قطاع الطيران لتعويض الكربون، والذي أنشئ تحت مظلة الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الجوي، لتسريع الحد من انبعاثات الكربون في قطاع الطيران، ستساهم في نقل شحن جوي حيادي من الكربون من خلال تقديم حل متكامل لحساب انبعاثات الكربون وتعويضها وذلك بين كل من القطرية للشحن والعملاء ووكلاء الشحن الجوي كشركة /كونا+ناجل/.
وكما يقدم هذا البرنامج لعملائه ضمانا بأن أرصدة الكربون التي تم شراؤها لتعويض هذه الانبعاثات تأتي من مشاريع تقدم تخفيضات كربونية تم التحقق منها بشكل مستقل، فضلا عن تقديمها حزمة كبيرة من الفوائد البيئية والاجتماعية.
وقد تم اطلاق هذا المشروع التجريبي على أربعة مقاطع جوية، وتخطط الشركة لتوسيع نطاقه ليشمل كافة الوجهات التي تشغل إليها القطرية للشحن، والتي وصلت إلى أكثر من (60) وجهة، وإلى أكثر من (140) وجهة بالنسبة لرحلات الركاب في جميع أنحاء العالم.
ويستخدم هذا المشروع أفضل الممارسات المعمول بها لدى اتحاد النقل الجوي الدولي (الاياتا) لحساب انبعاثات ثاني أكسيد الكربون لكل كيلوغرام شحن. ومن خلال هذا البرنامج، يمكن لعملاء الشحن تعويض الكربون المتعلق بالشحنات الجوية بسهولة، كخطوة نحو تحقيق التزاماتهم المتعلقة بالاستدامة البيئية. ولن يتم استخدام هذه التعويضات إلا بعد التحقق منها ووفقا للأنظمة ذات الجودة العالية المتعلقة بـ”تعويض الكربون والحد منه الخاص بالطيران الدولي (CORSIA)”.
وقال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، لقد قامت الخطوط الجوية القطرية بتطبيق برنامج تعويض الكربون بالنسبة لرحلات الركاب في العام 2020.
وأضاف ، يسرني تقديم خيار نقل الشحن الجوي الحيادي من الكربون من الآن فصاعدا، ولطالما كانت القطرية للشحن الجوي في طليعة شركات الطيران في اطلاق المبادرات في قطاع الطيران.
وأعرب عن فخره بالجهود المبذولة في دعم قطاع الطيران في تحقيق الأهداف الطموحة لخفض انبعاثات الكربون”.
من جانبه قال السيد ويلي والش، المدير العام للاتحاد الدولي للنقل الجوي (الاياتا) إن هدف قطاع الطيران الوصول إلى صافي الانبعاثات الكربونية إلى الصفر بحلول عام 2050 ينطبق على كل من رحلات الركاب والشحن الجوي، لذا، يتعين على كافة المعنيين في قطاع الطيران العمل معا وايجاد حلول مبتكرة.
وأعرب والش ،عن خالص تهانيه لشركة القطرية للشحن الجوي بوصفها أول شركة تنضم إلى منصة/ CO2NNECT/ وإلى شركة /كونا+ناجل/ كونها أول عميل يستخدم هذه المنصة.
وأضاف أنه وفي الوقت الذي يلتقي فيه العالم في مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتغير المناخي لتعزيز الخطط العالمية للحد من الكربون، فإن اعتماد هذه الحلول يظهر بشكل واضح التزامنا العميق بتشغيل رحلات شحن جوي مستدامة”.
وتتطلع القطرية للشحن للأخذ بزمام المبادرة في تلبية توقعات المسافرين بأعلى معايير الاستدامة البيئية، من خلال تقديم برنامج تطوعي لتعويض الكربون في الشحن الجوي، وهو الحل الذي يطبق أفضل الممارسات في قطاع الطيران لحساب وتعويض الكربون لضمان نقل شحنات جوية أكثر استدامة.
