Qatar Museums Presents Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at M7

Doha: Qatar Museums hosted Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at M7 in Msheireb Downtown Doha, on view until March 31, 2022. It is the first fashion exhibition of its ambition and scale in the Middle East and has been reinvented anew following successful presentations at prestigious museums in Paris, London, Shanghai, and New York. The retrospective, which features a selection of pieces that are being shown for the first time, includes ensembles from the private collection of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, a long-standing client of Christian Dior Couture.

To the rhythm of a new scenographic narrative designed by Nathalie Criniere, the exhibition, specially conceived for Qatar and curated by Olivier Gabet, celebrates nearly seventy-five years of creative passion, punctuated by captivating haute couture dresses and works from the collection of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.

“Christian Dior was a true visionary,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa continued, “so it is especially meaningful to us that Designer of Dreams is the first major exhibition to open at Qatar Museums’ M7, a creative hub that supports Qatar’s burgeoning fashion and design industries. This inspiring space provides a platform for local talent and supports aspiring and established creative entrepreneurs in Qatar to realise their ambitions.”

Resembling a majestic entrance, a decor evoking the legendary 30 Avenue Montaigne welcomes visitors, followed by a selection of silhouettes designed by each of Christian Dior’s successors – Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Also featured is the Bar suit, a manifesto of the New Look, designed by Christian Dior for his first collection in 1947.

The House’s multiple sources of inspiration – like the sumptuousness of Versailles – are revealed, while the unmissable toile room, a tribute to the savoir-faire of the Ateliers, promotes the excellence of the petites mains. A floral bouquet of timeless elegance, the Miss Dior fragrance blossoms before Maria Grazia Chiuri’s eponymous new haute couture dress for Dior. The beauty of world cultures is showcased in the Dior Around the World section reflecting cultural references for each country represented, for example Middle Eastern-inspired stained-glass windows by Philippe-Joseph Brocard.

In the heart of a garden recalling Monsieur Dior’s love of flowers, looks are enhanced by delicate embellishments or poetic prints, like an haute couture herbarium, presented alongside embroidery by Rebe and precious botanical works dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Continuing this dreamlike journey, the J’adore universe is exalted by a cascade of golden raindrops composed of 3,000 perfume bottles in a creation by the artist Liu Jianhua. The work Precious Stonewall (2020) and the J’adore perfume bottle designed by Jean-Michel Othoniel (2012) also appear like an echo. The irresistible Diorama window, revisited in pastel shades, dialogues with an installation specially created for this exhibition by the artist Joel Andrianomearisoa, entitled Les Saisons Imaginaires and made from a thousand upcycled Dior silk scarves.

Reflecting Christian Dior’s fascination with art, more than fifty Lady Dior handbags have been reinterpreted for the Dior Lady Art project, granting painters, sculptors, and designers carte blanche to transform this emblem according to their artistic vision – an accessory that owes its iconic status to its extraordinary ambassador, Lady Diana. The public can also admire one of the Princess of Wales’ outfits, alongside looks that have graced other dazzling celebrities, including Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams is sponsored by Place Vendome with additional support from Qatar Airways. The exhibition is part of the ongoing cultural legacy established as part of the Qatar-France 2020 Year of Culture, an initiative celebrating the longstanding ties between both nations.

This exhibition – always reinterpreted according to host countries and cultural affinities – has been hosted by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Long Museum West Bund in Shanghai, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chengdu and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, where it is currently on display.

الدوحة: تستضيف متاحف قطر حاليا معرض “كريستيان ديور: مصمم الأحلام”، في مركز الإبداع M7 ، الواقع في مشيرب قلب الدوحة حتى 31 مارس 2022. ويُعد معرض الأزياء الأول من نوعه في الشرق الأوسط نسبةً لحجمه، وقد أعيد تصميمه بعد النجاح الذي حققه في متاحف مرموقة في باريس ولندن وشنغهاي ونيويورك.

ويشمل المعرض الاستعادي مجموعة مختارة من القطع التي يتم عرضها لأول مرة، كما يضم أزياء راقية من المجموعة الخاصة لصاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، التي دأبت على اقتناء تصاميم كريستيان ديور منذ وقت طويل.

ويأتي المعرض ضمن فعاليات / قطر تبدع / التي تقام على مدى أسبوعين بهدف تعزيز التبادل الثقافي والحوار، حيث يلتقي قادة الابتكار والنجوم الصاعدون في مجال الإبداع من قطر والعالم في الدوحة في فعاليات /قطر تُبدع/، للمشاركة في التبادل الثقافي، والحوار، والتعاون في مجالات الفن، العمارة، والأزياء، والتصميم، والثقافة الرقمية”.

ويحتفل المعرض المُصمم خصيصًا لقطر، بما يقرب خمسة وسبعين عامًا من الشغف نحو الإبداع والابتكار، تخللتها فساتين وأعمال آسرة من مجموعة متحف الفنون والديكور في باريس.

وعلّقت سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، على معرض “كريستيان ديور: مصمم الأحلام”، قائلةً: “لقد أسر المعرض اهتمام عدد كبير من الجماهير في جميع أنحاء العالم بتصميمه المذهل وإبداعاته المتميزة. خاصة أنها المرة الأولى التي يقام فيها المعرض في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال افريقيا”، معربة سعادتها عن اعتزاز متاحف قطر بنسخة خاصة من المعرض في الدوحة، بالتعاون مع ديور ومتحف الفنون والديكور. وقالت “نشكر پلاس ?اندوم بشكل خاص على دعمهم كراعٍ للمعرض.”

وأضافت سعادة الشيخة المياسة: “كان كريستيان ديور صاحب رؤية حقيقية، لذا من المهم أن يكون هذا المعرض أول معرض كبير يُفتتح في M7، وهو مركز متاحف قطر الإبداعي الذي يدعم قطاعات الإبداع والتصميم المزدهرة في قطر، حيث توفر هذه المساحة الملهمة منصة للمواهب المحلية، وتدعم رواد الأعمال المبدعين والطموحين في قطر لتحقيق طموحاتهم”.

ويستقبل الزوار ديكور المدخل، الذي يستحضر في الأذهان 30 جادة مونتين الأسطوري، تليه مجموعة مختارة من التصاميم التي أبدعها المصممون الذين خلفوا كريستيان ديور، وهم كل من إيف سان لوران، مارك بوهان، جيانفرانكو فيري، جون غاليانو، راف سيمونز وماريا غراتسيا كيوري. كما يتم أيضًا عرض قطعة من تصميم بار سوت الرائد لتصميم “نيو لوك” والتي صممها كريستيان ديور ضمن مجموعته الأولى عام 1947.

وتم الكشف عن مصادر الإلهام العديدة لدار ديور إلى جانب عرض جمال ثقافات العالم في قسم “ديور حول العالم” مما يستحضر مراجع ثقافية لكل دولة ممثلة في المعرض، مثل النوافذ الزجاجية المستوحاة من منطقة الشرق الأوسط لفيليب جوزيف بروكارد.

وفي قلب حديقةٍ تذكّرنا بولع السيد ديور بالأزهار، يتم إثراء الأزياء بالزخارف الرقيقة أو الأنماط الشاعرية، كالأزياء ذات التصاميم المُشجَّرة، والتي يتم تقديمها إلى جانب تطريز من “ريبيه”، وأعمال ثمينة بزخارف نباتية يعود تاريخها إلى الفترة ما بين القرن الخامس عشر والقرن التاسع عشر. استكمالًا لهذه الرحلة الشبيهة بالحلم، أُعيد إحياء عطر “جادور” من خلال شلالٍ من حبّات المطر الذهبية المكونة من 3000 زجاجة عطر، في عمل الفنان ليو جيانوا.

كما يظهر كل من العمل الفني “بريشس ستونويل” (2020) وزجاجة عطر جادور (2012)، من تصميم جان ميشال أوتونيل. تتناغم نافذة ديوراما التي لا تقاوم، مع ظلال الباستيل مع تركيب فني من تصميم الفنان جويل أندريانومياريسوا ، وقدمت خصيصًا لهذا المعرض، بعنوان “الفصول الخيالية” وهو مصنوع من ألف وشاح حريري معاد تدويره من ديور.

واستحضارًا لولع كريستيان ديور بالفنون، أُعيد تصميم أكثر من خمسين حقيبة “ليدي ديور” لمشروع “ديور ليدي آرت”، حيث تم منح الرسامين والنحاتين والمصممين تفويضًا مطلقًا لتغيير هذا العمل الفني وفقًا لرؤيتهم الفنية، و ليدي ديور هي عبارة عن قطعة كمالية كسبت مكانتها المرموقة من الأميرة ديانا التي سُميّت القطعة باسمها.

وسيتمكن الزوار أيضًا الاستمتاع بمشاهدة أحد أزياء أميرة ويلز، بالإضافة إلى الإطلالات التي تألق بها بعض المشاهير الآخرين، من ضمنهم تشارليز ثيرون، وجنيفر لورانس، حيث يأخذ المعرض الزوار في رحلة من الماضي إلى الحاضر، يخُطها سحر ديور.

يذكر أن معرض كريستيان ديور: مصمم الأحلام يقام برعاية “پلاس ?اندوم”، وبدعمٍ من الخطوط الجوية القطرية. يُعد المعرض جزءًا من الإرث الثقافي المستمر كأحد جوانب العام الثقافي /قطر-فرنسا 2020/، وهي مبادرة تحتفي بالروابط العميقة بين البلدين والتي تعود لسنين طويلة.

وتمت استضافة هذا المعرض -الذي يُعاد تصميمه دائمًا ليناسب الدولة المضيفة وثقافتها في متحف فيكتوريا وألبرت في لندن، ومتحف “ذا لونغ واست بوند” في شانغهاي، ومتحف الفن المعاصر في تشيندغو، وفي متحف بروكلين في نيويورك حيث يتم عرضه حاليًا.
