QNL Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Turkish Nation’s Library

Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) signed a strategic Memorandum of Cooperation with the Nation’s Library (NsL) of the Republic of Turkey to expand knowledge in the fields of education, science and culture, and promote the development of librarianship.
The MoC was signed by HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library, and HE Dr. Metin Kiratli, Ambassador, Director of Administrative Affairs of Presidency of the Republic of Turkey.
The partnership outlines broad areas of collaboration between the two libraries, including scientific, technical and cultural cooperation. The libraries will work together on capacity-building activities to enhance knowledge, skills and experiences through a series of staff exchange programs. They will also conduct online and in-person training activities related to cataloging and classification, databases, and multimedia systems, among others.
On the occasion, HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Minister of State and President of the Qatar National Library, said: “Partnerships with friendly countries like Turkey are special for us, as we share a common history and culture. This MoC is a celebration of the strong friendship between our countries and the firm cooperation in broad and diverse areas, beyond just culture and education. Our partnership adds to our ongoing collaborations with Turkey, as we also have a joint agreement with the National Library of Turkey. We are also aware of and admire the rich historical archives and especially the Ottoman texts that live in the Nation’s Library, reaffirming our shared vision in expanding community knowledge. In addition, our technological advancements and digitization processes will add further value to our cooperation, impacting the Arab world and beyond. I am confident that our agreement today will drive future collaborations in the fields of digitalization, heritage conservation, education development, culture, librarianship and building a knowledge economy. We look forward to strengthening bridges of cultural diplomacy between Qatari and Turkish libraries in the years to come.”
HE Dr. Metin Kiratli, Ambassador, Director of Administrative Affairs of Presidency of the Republic of Turkey further added, “Over the last decade, Turkey and Qatar have been strengthening bilateral relations across various areas including political, educational, cultural and environmental. It gives us great pleasure to further expand the cultural harmony established between the two countries, by signing a new MoC between Presidency Nation’s Library and Qatar National Library. With increasing demand and interest in learning the Turkish language and culture, we see this cooperation as a long-term celebration of knowledge and learning.”
In addition to the signing ceremony, which took place on 18 October, the NsL also donated 400 books by popular Turkish authors to Qatar National Library, covering topics including politics, public affairs, research and cuisine. The books will expand and diversify the Library’s existing collections and help the local community learn more about Turkey and its people.
Furthermore, NsL and the Library will explore opportunities to host virtual digital exhibitions, exchange expertise in reference services and share operational knowledge based on experience and help and learn from each other to optimize visitor experiences.
The Nation’s Library, also known as Turkey’s grand library, was inaugurated in February 2020 and currently has over 2 million books, more than 13,000 periodicals and at least 18 private collections.
Qatar National Library continues to play a central role in sharing the cultural legacy of the Arab world while building bridges between Qatar and the rest of the world.

الدوحة: وقعت مكتبة قطر الوطنية مذكرة تعاون استراتيجية مع مكتبة الأمة برئاسة الجمهورية التركية لتعزيز التعاون في المجالات ذات الاهتمام المشترك وخاصة المجالات العلمية والتقنية والثقافية، والتعاون في مجال المعلومات وأنشطة المكتبات.
وقع المذكرة من الجانب القطري سعادة الدكتور حمد بن عبدالعزيز الكواري وزير الدولة ورئيس مكتبة قطر الوطنية، ومن الجانب التركي سعادة السفير الدكتور متين كيراتلي رئيس الشؤون الإدارية في رئاسة الجمهورية التركية.
وتحدد المذكرة المجالات الواسعة للتعاون في المجالات العلمية والتقنية والثقافية، وبناء القدرات وتبادل الخبرات والمعرفة والمهارات في تطوير أنشطة وممارسات المكتبات، وتبادل الموظفين وأنشطة التدريب خاصة في مجالات الفهرسة والتصنيف وقواعد البيانات وأنظمة الوسائط المتعددة، وغيرها.
وفي إطار المذكرة، ستناقش المكتبتان الفرص لتنظيم المعارض الرقمية الافتراضية، وتبادل الخبرات وأفضل الممارسات في الخدمات المرجعية والمعرفة العملية في مجال عمل المكتبات بناء على التجارب والخبرات المكتسبة في كلتيهما، بالإضافة إلى تبادل المساعدة في تحسين تجارب الرواد والزائرين.
وفي كلمته بهذه المناسبة قال سعادة الدكتور حمد بن عبدالعزيز الكواري وزير الدولة ورئيس مكتبة قطر الوطنية: إن التعاون مع تركيا يقوم على العديد من قواسم التاريخ والثقافة المشتركة بخلاف المصلحة المتبادلة، مشيرا إلى أن توقيع الاتفاقية بين مكتبة قطر ومكتبة الأمة برئاسة الجمهورية التركية هو احتفاء بالصداقة المتينة والعلاقات المميزة بين بلدينا والتعاون الراسخ في مجالات واسعة ومتنوعة لا تقتصر فقط على مجالات الثقافة والتعليم”.
وأشار إلى ثراء الأرشيف التاريخي في المكتبات التركية بصورة عامة والعثماني بصورة خاصة، مؤكدا أن القواسم المشتركة بيننا تجعل التعاون مثمرا للطرفين، مضيفا “وبفضل حداثة المكتبتين، مكتبة قطر الوطنية ومكتبة الأمة التركية، في التجهيزات والوسائل وما تتمتعان به من تطور تكنولوجي، فإن هذا التعاون سيكون له تأثيره ليس في عالمنا العربي والإسلامي فحسب، بل في كل مكان حول العالم أيضا”.
وأوضح رئيس مكتبة قطر أن “مذكرة التعاون الموقعة اليوم ليست تعاونا بين مكتبة قطر وبين المكتبات التركية، فقد سبقتها قبل بضعة أعوام اتفاقية مشتركة مع مكتبة تركيا الوطنية، وقال “إنني على ثقة تامة بأن اتفاقنا اليوم لن يكون الأخير، بل سيفتح آفاقا واسعة أمام المزيد من جهود التعاون المشترك في مجالات الرقمنة وحفظ التراث وتطوير التعليم والثقافة واستخدام التكنولوجيا وتطوير إدارة المكتبات والتدريب لصقل مهارات الموظفين وبناء اقتصاد المعرفة في أوطاننا، ومد جسور الدبلوماسية الثقافية بين المكتبات القطرية والتركية في المستقبل”.
من جانبه، صرح سعادة السفير الدكتور متين كيراتلي رئيس الشؤون الإدارية في رئاسة الجمهورية التركية، بأن السنوات العشر الماضية شهدت توطيد أواصر العلاقات الثنائية بين تركيا ودولة قطر عبر التعاون المشترك في مختلف المجالات السياسية والتعليمية والثقافية والبيئية.
وقال “إنه من دواعي سرورنا وسعادتنا توسيع آفاق الوئام الثقافي الراسخ بين البلدين بتوقيع مذكرة تعاون جديدة بين مكتبة الأمة برئاسة الجمهورية التركية ومكتبة قطر الوطنية، مشيرا إلى أنه مع زيادة الإقبال على تعلم اللغة التركية والاهتمام المتزايد بالثقافة التركية، فإننا نعتبر هذا التعاون احتفاء طويل المدى بالمعرفة والتعلم”.
وعلى هامش حفل التوقيع، أهدت مكتبة الأمة التركية إلى مكتبة قطر الوطنية 400 كتاب لكبار المؤلفين الأتراك تتناول موضوعات متنوعة تشمل السياسة والشؤون العامة والبحوث والطهي، وهي كتب ستسهم في إثراء وتنوع مجموعة المكتبة وتساعد المجتمع المحلي في معرفة المزيد عن تركيا، وتاريخها وثقافتها وشعبها.
جدير بالذكر أن مكتبة الأمة، المعروفة أيضا باسم “المكتبة الكبرى” في تركيا، افتتحت في فبراير 2020 وبها أكثر من مليوني كتاب وأكثر من 13 ألف دورية و18 مجموعة خاصة على الأقل.
وتواصل مكتبة قطر الوطنية جهودها للقيام بدور محوري في تبادل الإرث الثقافي للعالم العربي وبناء الجسور بين قطر وبقية دول العالم.
