Qatari Construction Sector Overcomes Impact of COVID-19

Doha: Qatari English-language The Peninsula newspaper noted, in its editorial Friday, the success of the construction sector in overcoming the impact of COVID-19 challenges as many indicators have validated the strength of this sector.

The Qatari daily said, in its editorial titled “Qatars Resilient Construction Sector”, that the recent data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) have showed that the number of building permits issued in September by municipalities in Qatar has increased by 18 percent to 736, compared to 626 building permits issued during the previous month in August, explaining that building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

The data related to building permits issued during 2020 demonstrate that the construction sector has shrugged-off the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the growth momentum of Qatars construction sector is likely to continue in the medium term.

The newspaper added that Qatars construction market is expected to reach a value of $76.98bn by 2026, and the construction market is expected to witness a compound annual growth rate of 10.54 percent over the period of 2021-2026.

In conclusion, the Peninsula pointed out that the State of Qatar experienced a rapid development in all its industries, due to the huge revenues generated by the countrys oil and gas exports, adding that the construction sector benefited from the increasing demand for residential, office spaces and other constructions.

وقالت الصحيفة الناطقة باللغة الإنجليزية في افتتاحيتها بعنوان /قطاع البناء المرن في قطر/، إن البيانات الأخيرة الصادرة عن جهاز التخطيط والإحصاء أظهرت ارتفاع عدد تصاريح البناء الصادرة في /سبتمبر/ بنسبة 18 بالمائة إلى 736 رخصة، مقارنة بـ 626 رخصة بناء صادرة خلال الشهر السابق /أغسطس/، موضحة أن بيانات تصاريح البناء وشهادات إتمام البناء ذات أهمية خاصة، حيث تعد مؤشرا لأداء قطاع البناء الذي يحتل بدوره مكانة بارزة في الاقتصاد الوطني.

وتظهر البيانات المتعلقة بتصاريح البناء الصادرة خلال عام 2020 أن قطاع البناء تجاهل تأثير تفشي فيروس كورونا، ومن المرجح أن يستمر زخم النمو في قطاع البناء في قطر على المدى المتوسط.

وأضافت أنه من التوقع أن تصل قيمة سوق البناء في قطر إلى 76.98 مليار دولار بحلول عام 2026 ، كما سيشهد سوق البناء معدل نمو سنوي مركب بنسبة 10.54 في المائة خلال الفترة من 2021 إلى 2026.

واختتمت الصحيفة افتتاحيتها بالإشارة إلى أن دولة قطر شهدت تطورا سريعا في جميع صناعاتها، بما في ذلك قطاع البنية التحتية والإنشاءات، وذلك بسبب الإيرادات الضخمة الناتجة عن صادرات البلاد من النفط والغاز، مضيفة أن قطاع البناء استفاد من الطلب المتزايد على المساحات السكنية والمكتبية وغيرها.
