SC Completes Turf Laying at Lusail Stadium

Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) announced the completion of the turf laying at Lusail Stadium – the 80,000-capacity venue that will host the FIFA World Cup final in December 2022.

The finishing touches are now being made to the stadium, which will be the eighth and final tournament venue.

Five stadiums have been completed by the SC to-date: Khalifa International (redevelopment), Al Janoub, Education City, Ahmad Bin Ali and Al Bayt. The sixth – Al Thumama – will be inaugurated on 22 October ahead of HH the Amir Cup Final. The seventh – Ras Abu Aboud – will host its first matches during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, a 16-team international tournament that will be held from November 30 to December 18.

Lusail Stadium will host its first matches in 2022. During the FIFA World Cup, the venue will host ten matches, including the final on December 18.

Designed by British firm Foster + Partners, the stadiums design is inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterizes the fanar lantern. Its shape and faade echo the intricate decorative motifs on bowls, vessels and other art pieces found across the Arab and Islamic world during the rise of civilization in the region.

Qatar will host the most compact version of the FIFA World Cup in modern times. All the stadiums are in close proximity, with the longest distance between venues just 75km. Fans and players will fly into one airport and stay in only one accommodation during the tournament. Unlike previous tournaments, internal flights and switching training bases have been eliminated – meaning players will have more time for training, rest and recuperation, helping them to stay in peak condition throughout the event.

الدوحة: أعلنت اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث عن الانتهاء من فرش العشب في أرضية استاد لوسيل، أكبر الاستادات الثمانية لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر2022، ويتسع لـ 80 ألف مشجع، ويستضيف نهائي البطولة العام المقبل.

واكتمل العمل إلى الآن في خمسة من استادات المونديال هي: استاد خليفة الدولي بعد تجديده، واستاد الجنوب، واستاد المدينة التعليمية، واستاد أحمد بن علي، واستاد البيت، ومن المقرر الإعلان عن جاهزية سادس الاستادات وهو استاد الثمامة، خلال استضافته نهائي كأس الأمير في 22 من أكتوبر المقبل.

ويستضيف استاد راس أبو عبود أولى مبارياته خلال بطولة كأس العرب FIFA قطر 2021، ?التي ستشهد مشاركة 16 منتخبا خلال الفترة من 30 نوفمبر إلى 18 ديسمبر، وتقام منافساتها على ستة من استادات المونديال، وهي جميع استادات كأس العالم باستثناء استاد لوسيل واستاد خليفة الدولي.

ومن المقرر أن يشهد العام 2022 أولى المباريات على أرضية استاد لوسيل الذي سيستضيف عشر مباريات في المونديال المرتقب من بينها المباراة النهائية في 18 ديسمبر، وقد استوحي تصميم الاستاد، الذي أبدعته شركة فوستر آند بارتنرز، من تداخل الضوء والظل الذي يميز وهج الفنار أو الفانوس، كما يعكس هيكله وواجهته النقوش بالغة الدقة على أوعية الطعام وغيرها من الأواني التي ميزت العصر الذهبي للفنون والحرف اليدوية في أرجاء العالم العربي والإسلامي.

يشار إلى أن قطر ستشهد النسخة الأكثر تقاربا في المسافات في العصر الحديث لبطولة كأس العالم، حيث تقع جميع الاستادات على مقربة من بعضها البعض، حيث لا تتجاوز أطول مسافة بين الاستادات 75 كم، ما يعني أن المشجعين واللاعبين سيسافرون عبر مطار واحد، وبإمكانهم البقاء في نفس مقر الإقامة طوال منافسات البطولة، ولن تكون هناك حاجة لرحلات طيران داخلية، أو تبديل مرافق التدريب، كما كان الحال عليه في البطولات السابقة.
