QF Grants Scholarships for Female Afghan Robotics Team to Study at Education City

Doha: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, with a joint funding by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), granted scholarships for members of an all-female Afghan robotics team evacuated from Afghanistan to Qatar to continue their education at the Education City.

The team, known as the Afghan Dreamers, arrived in Doha following the current conditions in Afghanistan and were hosted by the Education City, where they will receive scholarships that enable them to keep pursuing their studies through a strategic partnership between Qatar Foundation (QF) and Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

“These talented, creative students have been living through a time of uncertainty and upheaval, and at Qatar Foundation we want to do whatever we can to ease their concerns in the present while also helping them to look to the future,” said HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, the Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation.

“By providing them with scholarships to study at Education City, their education can now continue uninterrupted. We are currently assessing their specific needs to ensure they receive the learning experience within our schools and our pre-university preparatory program that best suits their abilities and their goals,” HE Sheikha Hind added.

“Our priority is to ensure that these students feel safe, cared for, and confident in the knowledge that their education will not be affected by this immensely difficult period in their lives,” HE stressed.

For his part, HE QFFD Director-General Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari noted that the educational program jointly funded by QF and QFFD provides high-quality technical training in the use of modern technologies which will enable Afghani female students to acquire the skills and knowledge that will allow them to be appropriately qualified and in demand within the labor market.

“We hope that this program and the strategic partnership between QFFD, QF, and the Digital Citizen Fund will renew hope for a new generation of Afghani girls,” he said.

Roya Mahboob, the founder of the Digital Citizen Fund, parent organization of the Afghan Girls Robotics Team, said: “The team is excited and grateful for this opportunity to study abroad.

“Qatar Foundations Education City, a remarkable campus made of up of leading academic and research institutions from around the world, is a place where the girls can realize their full potential. The children of Afghanistan are eager and ready to continue making great contributions to the world,” she said.

At QF and in collaboration with QFFD, the Afghan Dreamers will be supported in continuing their high school studies and preparing for higher education, with placements being based on their educational assessments and their goals. They will also have the opportunity to keep enhancing their robotics skills through the facilities and expertise available at QF member Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and QF partner universities Texas A&M University at Qatar and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.

QFs Education City houses the largest education ecosystem of its kind in the world, comprising eight universities including branch campuses of some of the worlds leading universities and both mainstream and specialized schools, and offers education spanning K-12 to postdoctoral level.

The strategic partnership that has enabled the Afghan students to study at Education City reflects QFs belief that nothing should stand in the way of education and its commitment to ensuring people from Qatar and beyond can realize their potential, while also further demonstrating how Qatar and its people show support and solidarity for those experiencing hardship and upheaval.

الدوحة: منحت مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، بتمويل مشترك مع صندوق قطر للتنمية، فريق /الفتيات الأفغانيات للروبوتات/ فرصة إكمال مسيرته العلمية في المدينة التعليمية، وذلك بعد حصوله على منحة دراسية من المؤسسة، عقب وصوله إلى الدوحة.

وقد وصل فريق الفتيات الأفغانيات للروبوتات المعروف باسم /الحالمات الأفغانيات/ إلى الدوحة، جراء الأوضاع الراهنة في أفغانستان، وتمت استضافة الطالبات في حرم المدينة التعليمية، حيث سيحصلن على منح دراسية تمكنهن من متابعة دراستهن، من خلال شراكة استراتيجية بين مؤسسة قطر وصندوق قطر للتنمية.

وفي هذا الصدد، قالت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع والرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة: “لقد مر هؤلاء الطالبات اللاتي يتمتعن بالموهبة والإبداع بفترة مضطربة يشوبها عدم اليقين بالمستقبل، نسعى في مؤسسة قطر إلى بذل كل ما في وسعنا للتخفيف من مخاوفهن في ظل الظروف الراهنة ومساعدتهن على التطلع إلى المستقبل”.

وأضافت سعادتها: “من خلال تقديم المنح الدراسية لهؤلاء الطالبات في مؤسسة قطر، فإننا نكون قد أسهمنا في ضمان وصولهن إلى التعليم دون انقطاع، نعمل حاليا على تقييم احتياجاتهن المناسبة التي تضمن حصولهن على تجربة تعليمية داخل مدارسنا، وعبر برامجنا، وفق ما يراعي قدراتهن وأهدافهن”.

وختمت سعادة الشيخة هند بالقول: “تكمن أولويتنا في منحهن الشعور بالأمن والاهتمام وطمأنتهن بأن مسيرتهن التعليمية سوف تستمر رغم هذه الفترة العصيبة من حياتهن”.

من جهته، أوضح سعادة السيد خليفة بن جاسم الكواري مدير عام صندوق قطر للتنمية أن البرنامج التعليمي الممول بشكل مشترك من قبل الصندوق ومؤسسة قطر سوف يقدم تدريبا عالي الجودة بتقنيات حديثة حيث إنه يمكّن الطالبات الأفغانيات من اكتساب مهارات من شأنها تمكينهن اقتصاديا في سوق العمل، معربا عن أمله أن يكون هذا البرنامج وهذه الشراكة الاستراتيجية مع مؤسسة قطر وصندوق المواطن الرقمي سببا في تجديد الأمل لجيل جديد من الفتيات الأفغانيات.

من جهتها، أكدت السيدة رؤيا محبوب الرئيس التنفيذي لصندوق المواطن الرقمي، وهو المؤسسة الأم لفريق الفتيات الأفغانيات للروبوتات، أن فريق الفتيات الأفغانيات للروبوتات يغمره الحماس والامتنان بعد منحه فرصة الدراسة خارج أفغانستان، مضيفة أن المدينة التعليمية التابعة لمؤسسة قطر تعتبر صرحا تعليميا رائعا يضم مؤسسات أكاديمية وبحثية رائدة من مختلف أنحاء العالم، حيث يمكن للفتيات أن يحققن فيها تطلعاتهن بشكل كامل، مشيرة إلى أن أطفال أفغانستان يتطلعون، بل مستعدون، لمواصلة تقديم الإسهامات الكبيرة لهذا العالم.

وسيتم دعم فريق الفتيات الأفغانيات للروبوتات في مؤسسة قطر بالتعاون مع صندوق قطر للتنمية بما يساعده على مواصلة دراسته، والاستعداد لمرحلة التعليم العالي، بالاستناد إلى دليل تقييم التعليم وأهدافه، كما ستتاح للفريق فرصة تعزيز مهاراته في مجال الروبوتات من خلال مرافق المؤسسة والخبرات التي تضمها في كل من جامعة حمد بن خليفة، والجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر مثل جامعة تكساس إي آند إم في قطر، وجامعة كارنيجي ميلون في قطر.

وتضم المدينة التعليمية في مؤسسة قطر أكبر منظومة تعليمية من نوعها في العالم، وتتألف من ثماني جامعات، بما في ذلك فروع للجامعات الرائدة في العالم، ومدارس رئيسية ومتخصصة، وتوفر تعليما يمتد من مرحلة الروضة إلى الصف الثاني عشر حتى درجة الدكتوراه.
