Has the effectiveness of vaccines against new covid strains decreased? Dr. Al-Maslamani answers

Doha: Dr. Muna Al-Maslamani, medical director of the Center for Transitional Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation, confirmed that people who received corona vaccine are 29 times less likely to be hospitalized than non-immunized people who are also 5 times more likely to become infected than vaccinated people.

She said during “Our Life” program on Qatar TV on Monday evening that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States of America conducted a study between May 1 and July 25 to discover the difference between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated and noted that the vaccinated people are 29 times less likely to be hospitalized than the non-vaccinated and that the unvaccinated people may become infected 5 times more often than vaccinated persons, indicating the strength and efficiency of vaccines with the emergence of new strains.

She pointed out that the U.S. Control and Prevention Center announced in August that the effectiveness of the vaccine after 6 months began to diminish, especially the vaccines of mRNA, explaining that the effectiveness of the vaccine was 91.7% and decreased to about 79.8% and this is the effectiveness against infection, pointing to the effectiveness of vaccines include the effectiveness of the vaccine against infection and the effectiveness against severe disease and effectiveness against hospitalization.

وقالت خلال برنامج حياتنا على تلفزيون قطر مساء يوم الإثنين إن مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية أجرت دراسة خلال الفترة ما بين 1 مايو إلى 25 يوليو لكي يكتشفوا الفارق بين المحصنين وغير المحصنين ولاحظوا أن الأشخاص المحصنين أقل عرضة 29 مرة من دخول المستشفى مقارنة بغير المحصنين وأن الأشخاص غير المحصنين قد يكتسبون العدوى 5 مرات أكثر من الأشخاص المحصنين، وهذا يدل على قوة وكفاءة اللقاحات مع ظهور السلالات المتغيرة.

وأشارت إلى أن مركز التحكم والسيطرة الأمريكي أعلن في أغسطس الماضي أن فاعلية اللقاح بعد مرور 6 أشهر بدأت تتضاءل، خاصة لقاحات مرسال الحمض النووي، موضحة أن فاعلية اللقاح كانت 91.7% وانخفضت إلى 79.8% تقريباً وهذه هي الفاعلية ضد العدوى، لافتة إلى فاعلية اللقاحات تتضمن فاعلية اللقاح ضد العدوى والفاعلية ضد المرض الشديد والفاعلية ضد دخول المستشفى.

وأضافت: ربما تكون قد حصلت على التطعيم ومع مرور الوقت بعد 6 أشهر تنخفض فاعلية اللقاح ضد الإصابة بالعدوى.. في هذه الحالة قد تصاب ولكن فاعلية اللقاح لا تزال محتفظة بنسبتها العالية وهي 96% وهي نسبة قادرة على الوقاية من دخول المستشفى ومن المرض الشديد ومن الوفاة ولكنك قد تصاب بأعراض بسيطة فقط، تكون مجرد التهاب في الجهاز التنفسي العلوي وليس السفلي.

وبشأن فاعلية اللقاح ضد سلالة دلتا، قالت د. منى المسلماني إن الفاعلية العامة التي كانت مثلاً 91% بالنسبة لسلالة دلتا تقل لتصل إلى نسبة 88% خصوصاً للأشخاص الذين لديهم أعراض ولكن تظل محافظة على كفائتها العالية في أنها تمنع من دخول المستشفى بسنبة 96%.
