Qatar Astronomical Center: Climate change rumors are not true

Doha: Sheikh Salman bin Jabr al-Thani, director of Qatar Astronomical Center, denied the validity of what is circulating on social media about climate change concerns, stressing that they are baseless. He told the program “Our Lives” on Qatar TV: What is happening is that people are over dramatizing on social media, and there is no truth to the rumors that we are coming to disasters because of what is happening in Europe and America, explaining that the cycles of rain, floods and fires vary in the number of years, there is a cycle of sun effects that lasts 11 years, and another cycle may last 100 years, but some on social media see disasters abroad and believe that they will happen here, and pointed out that the floods of Europe that we are witnessing now happened 10 years ago in a different region, and the fires of America are frequent every year and the fires in Turkey are arson, and the fires of Greece are modern and suspected to be an arson, stressing: If you look at the subject properly you will find the response.
He explained that if we go back to history, we will find that there was a storm in 1934 that hit America from the south coast to the central regions, a 10-year period that turned millions of hectares of agriculture into sand dunes, adding: 10 years in which people migrated and when they wanted to leave their homes to see their “livestock” they tied ropes from the door of their homes to the area where their “livestock” are and students were going to school masked by wet pieces of cloth, wondering: What happens if the current generation sees a storm like the 1934 storm in America?!.
الدوحة: نفى الشّيخُ سلمان بن جبر آل ثاني، مُديرُ مركز قطر لعلوم الفضاء والفلك صحّة ما يتمّ تداوله على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعيّ حول مخاوف التغير المناخي، مؤكدًا أنه لا أساس لها من الصحة. وقال لبرنامج «حياتنا» على تلفزيون قطر: إن ما يحدث هو تهويل من الناس على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، ولا صحّة لما يُشاع بأننا مقبلون على كوارث بسبب ما يحدث في أوروبا وأمريكا، موضحًا أنَّ دورات الأمطار والفيضانات والحرائق تختلف عدد سنواتها، فهناك دورة تأثيرات الشمس وتستمرّ 11 سنة، ودورة أخرى قد تستمرّ 100 سنة، ولكن البعض في مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي يرى الكوارث في الخارج فيعتقد أنّها ستحدث هنا، وأشار إلى أن فيضانات أوروبا التي نشهدها الآن، سبق أن حدثت قبل 10 سنوات في منطقة مختلفة، وأن حرائق أمريكا متكررة كل عام وحرائق تركيا بفعل فاعل، وحرائق اليونان حديثة ويشتبه أنها بفعل فاعل، مؤكداً: إذا بحثت في الموضوع بالشكل الصحيح ستجد الرد.
وأوضح أنه لو عدنا إلى التاريخ سنجد أن هناك عاصفة في سنة 1934 ضربت أمريكا من الساحل الجنوبي إلى المناطق الوسطى، كان مدتها 10 سنوات حولت ملايين الهكتارات الزراعية إلى كثبان رملية، متابعاً: 10 سنوات هاجرت فيها الناس وكانوا عندما يريدون الخروج من بيوتهم لرؤية “حلالهم” يربطون حبالاً من باب بيوتهم إلى المنطقة الموجود بها “حلالهم” والطلاب كانوا يذهبون إلى المدارس ملثمين بقطع من القماش مبللة بالماء، متسائلاً: ماذا سيحدث لو رأى الجيل الحالي عاصفة مثل عاصفة 1934 في أمريكا؟!.
