Older people, pregnant women and children most reluctant to take the vaccine: Dr. Al-Bayat

Doha: Dr. Soha Al Bayat, head of vaccinations at the Department of Health Protection and Transitional Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health, called on parents to encourage their children to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine in order to restore school life to normal next school year, noting that older people, pregnant women and children are the most reluctant to receive the vaccine, and a team is reaching out to convince them of the need to take the vaccine.
During her interview on Qatar TV’s Social Distance Program yesterday, Dr. Al Bayat added: Pregnant women are afraid of getting the vaccine even though studies have shown that it is safe for them and the fetuses, stressing that the infection of pregnant women with the virus poses a threat to them and the fetus, and that none of the pregnant women who received the vaccine in any of the months of pregnancy experienced complications or problems during pregnancy.
She said: There is no tendency to oblige citizens and residents to vaccinate, noting that the ministry relies on the awareness of the community to get out of this pandemic by adhering to precautionary measures, such as taking care of physical distancing with others, wearing masks and avoiding hand-shaking even for vaccinated groups.

الدوحة: دعت الدكتورة سهى البيات، رئيس قسم التطعيمات بإدارة حماية الصحة ومُكافحة الأمراض الانتقاليّة بوزارة الصحة العامّة، أولياء الأمور إلى تشجيع أبنائهم على الحصول على اللقاح المُضاد لفيروس كورونا «كوفيد-19» من أجل عودة الحياة الدراسيّة إلى طبيعتها في العام الدراسي المُقبل، مُشيرة إلى أن كبار السن والحوامل والأطفال أكثر الفئات ترددًا في الحصول على اللقاح، وهناك فريق يقوم بالتواصل معهم لإقناعهم بضرورة أخذ اللقاح.
وأضافت د.البيات، خلال لقائها في برنامج المسافة الاجتماعيّة المُذاع على تلفزيون قطر أمس: إن النساء الحوامل لديهن تخوّف من الحصول على اللقاح رغم أن الدراسات أثبتت أنه آمن عليهن وعلى الأجنة، مؤكدة أن إصابة المرأة الحامل بالفيروس تُشكل خطرًا عليها وعلى الجنين، وأنه لم تتعرّض أي من الحوامل اللاتي حصلن على اللقاح في أي من شهور الحمل لأي مُضاعفات أو مشاكل خلال الحمل.
وقالت: إنه لا يوجد توجّه لإلزام المواطنين والمُقيمين بالتطعيم، مُشيرة إلى أن الوزارة تعوّل على وعي المُجتمع للخروج من هذه الجائحة عبر التزام الجميع بالإجراءات الاحترازيّة، مثل الحرص على التباعد الجسدي مع الآخرين وارتداء الكمامات وتجنّب التصافح باليد حتى للفئات الحاصلة على اللقاح.
