Qatar responds to alleged detention of journalists in Kingdom of eSwatini
قطر ترد بشأن ما ورد من ادعاء عن احتجاز صحفيين بمملكة إسواتيني
DOHA: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is investigating an incident involving the Charge d’Affaires of Qatar’s Embassy in the Kingdom of eSwatini, formerly known as the Kingdom of Swaziland, and journalists from the Times of Swaziland newspaper.
The ministry said yesterday that, as part of this investigation, the Government of Qatar received a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of eSwatini stating: “We have investigated the allegations that the Charge d’Affaires detained journalists at the Embassy of Qatar and we found that these allegations are incorrect.”
The statement said that the report concluded that “based on this evidence, it is clear that journalists dealt with the Charge d’Affaires in unprofessional manner, and that the portrayal of events was exaggerated and the matter was described as detention.”
It added that “While the report of the Government of the Kingdom of eSwatini confirms that journalists violated the rules of conduct and professionalism during their interview with the Charge d’Affaires, the Government of the State of Qatar will continue its examination of the incident to determine whether any of the rules and protocols of the State of Qatar related to handling the press have been violated.” The ministry confirmed that it takes the freedom of the press seriously, stressing that “if any violation is found, an appropriate action will be taken.”
أعلنت وزارة الخارجية أنها تتقصى حاليا في حادث يتعلق بالقائم بالأعمال في سفارة قطر في مملكة إسواتيني المعروفة سابقاً بمملكة سوازيلاند وصحفيين من صحيفة تايمز أوف سوازيلاند.
وأوضحت الوزارة في بيان اليوم أنه في إطار عملية التقصي هذه، تلقت حكومة دولة قطر تقريرًا من وزارة الشؤون الخارجية والتعاون الدولي في مملكة إسواتيني جاء فيه: “لقد حققنا في الادعاءات بأن القائم بالأعمال احتجز صحفيين في سفارة قطر ووجدنا أن هذه الادعاءات غير صحيحة”.
ونوه البيان إلى أن التقرير خلص إلى أنه “بناء على هذه الأدلة، من الواضح أن الصحفيين تعاملوا بشكل غير مهني مع القائم بالأعمال، وقد تمت المبالغة في تصوير الأحداث وإظهار الأمر على أنه احتجاز “.
ولفت البيان إلى أنه “في الوقت الذي يؤكد فيه تقرير حكومة مملكة إسواتيني أن الصحفيين انتهكوا القواعد السلوكية والمهنية أثناء مقابلتهم القائم بالأعمال، إلا أن حكومة دولة قطر ستواصل بحثها في الحادث لتحديد ما إذا كانت أي من القواعد والبروتوكولات الخاصة بدولة قطر التي تتعلق بالتعامل مع وسائل الإعلام قد تم انتهاكها”.
وأكدت وزارة الخارجية أنها تأخذ حرية الصحافة على محمل الجد، مشددة على أنه “إذا تم استنتاج حدوث أي انتهاك، سيتم اتخاذ الإجراء المناسب”.
