MEC raises awareness on intellectual property laws

Doha: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has carried out a series of inspection and awareness campaigns for shop owners to raise awareness about some articles of the Trademark Law, Commercial Data, Geographical Indications and Industrial Designs, all of which prohibit the handling and use of public symbols and names in the State.

The campaigns targeted the shops at Land Mark, Royal Plaza, Night Market, Tawar Mall, Villaggio Mall, Hayat Plaza Mall, Al Rawnaq and Zone Center.

The awareness campaigns focused on a number of intellectual property laws and explained the details and irregularities resulting from them, in order to avoid encroachment on the intellectual property rights of others, as the Ministry also sends text messages to them to urge them to do so.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce issued a circular on the commercial use of symbols and public names in the country after the Ministry recently noted the unregulated use of some merchants, suppliers and consumer complexes for the picture of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as symbols and public names in the country, such as the use of the slogan “Tamim Al Majd” on commercial products.

The Ministry pointed out that the use of the logo or trademark is limited to lawful uses and within the limits of respect for the logo and the trademark as a symbol and a general slogan whose dignity or position should not be underestimated. The Ministry urged everyone to respect the logo as a symbol and general slogan, adding that its position may not be underestimated.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce conducts awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the culture of intellectual property protection and its benefits, and the most important services provided by the Ministry in this field. It also reviews the most important initiatives to achieve the highest international standards in the protection of intellectual property rights, and provide an integrated electronic system of high quality to support and enable authors and owners of trademarks and inventors and innovators to preserve their rights and protect their work and inventions.

The Ministry also launched patent registration services, the preservation and filing of copyright and related rights, and the electronic trademark registration service on the Ministry’s website, in order to provide services to investors as part of the transformation to provide all services related to intellectual property rights electronically.

نفذت وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة سلسة من الحملات التفتيشية والتوعوية لأصحاب المحلات التجارية بهدف توعيتهم ببعض مواد قانون العلامات والبيانات التجارية والمؤشرات الجغرافية والرسوم والنماذج الصناعية التي تنص جميعها على حظر التعامل واستخدام الرموز والأسماء العامة في الدولة.

واستهدفت الحملات المحلات التجارية في (مجمع اللاند مارك مجمع الرويال بلازا النايت ماركت مجمع طوار مول – مجمع فيلاجيو مجمع حياة بلازا الرونق – زون سنتر)، حيث تم خلال هذه الحملات التوعوية وتسليط الضوء على عدد من قوانين الملكية الفكرية وشرح التفاصيل والمخالفات المترتبة عليها وذلك لتجنب التعدي على حقوق الملكية الفكرية للغير، حيث تقوم الوزارة أيضا بإرسال رسائل نصيه لهم لحثهم على هذا الأمر.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة كانت قد أصدرت تعميما بشأن الاستخدام التجاري للرموز والأسماء العامة في الدولة، بعد أن لاحظت الوزارة في الآونة الأخيرة الاستخدام غير المنظم لبعض التجار والموردين والمجمعات الاستهلاكية لصورة حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى حفظه الله والرموز والأسماء العامة في الدولة، مثل (استخدام شعار “تميم المجد”) على المنتجات التجارية.

وأوضحت الوزارة أنه ينحصر استخدام الرسمة أو العلامة التجارية في الاستخدامات المشروعة وفي حدود احترام الرسمة والشعار محل العلامة التجارية بصفتها رمزا وشعارا عاما لا يجوز التقليل من احترامه أو مكانته، وحثت الوزارة الجميع على احترام الرسمة والشعار محل العلامة بصفتها رمزا وشعارا عاما لا يجوز التقليل من احترامه أو مكانته.

يذكر أن وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة تقوم من حين لآخر بحملات توعوية لتعزيز الوعي بثقافة حماية حقوق الملكية الفكرية وفوائدها، وأهم الخدمات التي تقدمها الوزارة في هذا المجال، كما تقوم باستعراض أهم المبادرات الرامية إلى انتهاج أرقى المعايير الدولية في مجال حماية حقوق الملكية الفكرية، وتوفير منظومة إلكترونية متكاملة ذات جوده عالية لدعم وتمكين المؤلفين وأصحاب العلامات التجارية والمخترعين والمبتكرين من الحفاظ على حقوقهم وحماية أعمالهم واختراعاتهم.

كما قامت الوزارة بإطلاق خدمات تسجيل براءات الاختراع وحفظ وإيداع حقوق المؤلف والحقوق المجاورة وخدمة تسجيل العلامات التجارية إلكترونيا على موقع الوزارة، وذلك لتقديم خدمات للمستثمرين في إطار التحول لتقديم كافة الخدمات المتعلقة بحقوق الملكية الفكرية إلكترونيا.
