Doha: The Ministry of Public Health is participating in the expanded global campaign to celebrate World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, which is held from 18 to 24 November under the slogan “United to preserve antimicrobials”
The Global Antimicrobial Awareness Week is an annual celebration endorsed by the World Health Organization since 2015 to be a global event aimed at better understanding of the problem of antimicrobial resistance, raising awareness about it, and encouraging the fight against the exacerbation of the spread of antimicrobial resistance infections.
As resistance grows to a wider range of drugs beyond antibiotics, this year, the World Health Organization broadened the focus of the campaign to include all antimicrobials such as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and anti-parasitics .
The World Antimicrobial Awareness Week aims to help reduce the incorrect usage of antimicrobial medicines, and to maintain their effectiveness for as long as possible so that those who need them can get the best possible treatment. It also aims to raise awareness of the dangers of antimicrobial resistance at the global, regional and local levels, and to encourage the implementation of best practices among the general public, policy-makers, and health workers in the human and animal health as well as in other related sectors
On this occasion, Dr. Abd Al-Latif Al Khal, Chairman of the National Committee for Combating anti-Microbial Resistance said, “The National Committee to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance is playing an effective role and leading in improving the practices of workers in the health sector and other related sectors in order to optimize the proper use of antimicrobials, raise awareness around the increasing of antimicrobial resistance, as well as take all actions necessary to achieve the related WHO’s Sustainable Development Goals.”
Huda Amer Al Katheeri, Director of the Strategic Planning and Performance Department at the Ministry of Public Health, affirmed that many factors can increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance around the world, including the overuse of medicines and their misuse in humans as well as in the livestock and agricultural sectors, in addition to the lack of clean water and sanitation in certain areas of the world. She emphasized that the work to contain this problem is not limited to the celebrations of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, but rather is a continuous process, in line with the objectives of the National Action Plan to address antimicrobials resistance.
The celebration included awareness activities to highlight the issue of antimicrobial resistance in all health care institutions, the animal health sector, the food safety sector, environmental health, academic institutions and others, and urged them to participate in celebrating this event to increase the optimal use of antimicrobials with appropriate medical supervision.
Awareness materials were developed and distributed across the health sector and to partners and stakeholders. Additionally, an expanded social media campaign aimed at enhancing awareness of the antimicrobial component and the optimal use of it was launched under the theme “Unite to prevent antimicrobial resistance “.The Ministry of Public Health building was also lit in blue, based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
Among the activities during this week, the Ministry of Public Health will hold a virtual scientific symposium on November 25 under the title “United to Preserve Antimicrobials: Optimal Antimicrobial Stewardship from Theory to Practice.” The invitation is open to all specialized sectors and stakeholders in the country. The symposium is a collaboration between the Strategic Planning and Performance Department team at the Ministry of Public Health, experts from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation and Sidra Hospital.

الدوحة: تشارك وزارة الصحة العامة في الحملة العالمية الموسعة للاحتفال بالأسبوع العالمي للتوعية حول مضادات الميكروبات الذي يحتفى به خلال الفترة من 18 إلى 24 نوفمبر الجاري تحت شعار “متحدون للحفاظ على مضادات الميكروبات”.
ويعد الأسبوع العالمي للتوعية حول مضادات الميكروبات بمثابة احتفال سنوي أقرته منظمة الصحة العالمية منذ عام 2015 ليكون حدثا عالميا يهدف إلى فهم أفضل لمشكلة مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات ورفع مستوى الوعي بها والتشجيع على مكافحة تفاقم ظاهرة انتشار العدوى المقاومة لمضادات الميكروبات.
ومع تصاعد المقاومة التي تواجهها مجموعة متزايدة من الأدوية، قررت منظمة الصحة العالمية هذا العام توسيع نطاق هذه الحملة من التركيز على المضادات الحيوية وحدها لتشمل جميع أنواع مضادات الميكروبات مثل المضادات الحيوية ومضادات الفيروسات ومضادات الفطريات ومضادات الطفيليات.
وتتضمن أهداف الأسبوع العالمي للتوعية حول مضادات الميكروبات المساعدة في الحد من الاستهلاك غير الصحيح للمضادات الحيوية، والحفاظ على فاعليتها لأطول فترة ممكنة حتى يتسنى لمن هم في حاجة إليها أن يحصلوا على أفضل علاج ممكن، بالإضافة إلى رفع مستوى الوعي بمخاطر مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات على المستويات العالمية والإقليمية والمحلية، وتشجيع تطبيق أفضل الممارسات بين عامة الناس وصناع السياسات والعاملين في مجال الصحة في مجال صحة الإنسان والحيوان وكذلك في القطاعات الأخرى ذات الصلة.
وأكد الدكتور عبداللطيف الخال رئيس اللجنة الوطنية للتصدي لمقاومة الميكروبات أن اللجنة تقوم بدور نشط من أجل تحسين ممارسات العاملين بالقطاع الصحي والقطاعات الأخرى ذات الصلة بهدف الاستخدام الأمثل لمضادات الميكروبات وزيادة الوعي بخطورة مقاومة الميكروبات للمضادات، وكذلك اتخاذ إجراءات عاجلة بشأن ذلك من خلال قطاعات متعددة تشمل صحة الأنسان والحيوان والبيئة وغيرها من أجل تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة التي تدعو إليها منظمة الصحة العالمية.
ومن جهتها، قالت السيدة هدى الكثيري مدير إدارة التخطيط الاستراتيجي والأداء بوزارة الصحة العامة، إن هناك العديد من العوامل التي أدت إلى تفاقم خطر مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات حول العالم، من بينها الإفراط في استخدام الأدوية وإساءة استخدامها لدى الإنسان وفي قطاعي الماشية والزراعة، فضلا عن الافتقار إلى المياه النظيفة والنظافة ببعض أنحاء العالم.
وأكدت أن العمل لاحتواء هذه المشكلة لا يقتصر فقط على احتفاليات الأسبوع العالمي للتوعية بمضادات الميكروبات وإنما هي عملية مستمرة وذلك تماشيا مع أهداف خطة العمل الوطنية للتصدي لمضادات الميكروبات.
وتضمّن الاحتفال أنشطة توعوية لتسليط الضوء على زيادة الوعي بمقاومة مضادات الميكروبات بجميع مؤسسات الرعاية الصحية وقطاع صحة الحيوان وقطاع سلامة الأغذية والصحة البيئية والمؤسسات الأكاديمية وجميع القطاعات ذات الصلة بالدولة، وحثهم على المشاركة في الاحتفال بهذا الحدث من خلال المشاركة ودعم الجهود المبذولة لزيادة الاستخدام الأمثل لمضادات الميكروبات في المستشفيات وأماكن الرعاية الصحية والقطاعات الأخرى مع الإشراف الطبي المناسب بما في ذلك المضادات الحيوية ومضادات الفيروسات ومضادات الفطريات ومضادات الطفيليات.
وقد تم توفير مواد توعوية لتغطية الحدث وتوزيعها في القطاع الصحي وجميع القطاعات ذات الصلة، بالإضافة إلى عمل حملة موسعة بوسائل الاتصال الاجتماعي كدعم للجهود الرامية إلى تعزيز الوعي بمقاومة مضادات الميكروبات والاستخدام الأمثل لها بعنوان “لنتحد جميعا لمنع مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات” ، كما تم إضاءة عدد من المعالم بالدولة باللون الأزرق كبادرة رمزية اعترافا بالجهود المبذولة لمنع مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات بناء على توصية منظمة الصحة العامة.
وتنظم وزارة الصحة العامة ندوة علمية افتراضية يوم الأربعاء المقبل تحت عنوان “متحدون للحفاظ على مضادات الميكروبات: الإشراف الأمثل على مضادات الميكروبات من النظرية إلى الممارسة” وذلك بين فريق عمل إدارة التخطيط الاستراتيجي والأداء بوزارة الصحة وخبراء من وزارة البلدية والبيئة ومؤسستي حمد الطبية والرعاية الصحية الأولية وسدرة للطب.
