Protests against the coronavirus restrictions in Germany, Switzerland and Poland

German police detained 200 people in Berlin as several parallel protests were held in the city on Saturday, with some of the protesters rallying against anti-infection measures and others decrying conspiracy theories.

Rival events were also held in Frankfurt, where about 1,500 people gathered to protest the government measures and about the same number of joining a counter-protest, police said.

In Stuttgart, 5,000 people gathered at the designated protest area where they were required to stay 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) from one another, and the authorities were forced to redirect many more to a different area in order to maintain the required distance.

One Stuttgart protester held up a sign “Coronavirus is fake” while another referenced a conspiracy theory about US tech billionaire Bill Gates, which claims Gates is manipulating the pandemic to control the world. “Don’t give Bill Gates a chance,” the placard read.

‘Work and bread’

At a separate protest in Poland, police fired tear gas and used force to break up a rally in Warsaw. Hundreds of participants had called the government to lift restrictions on businesses, displaying signs such as “Work and bread” and “It will be normal again.”

The authorities noted “cases of aggression towards police” which prompted a violent response. While the protesters insisted the event was not linked with political parties, opposition senator Jacek Bury said he was detained by the police. The police disputed his account, saying that the lawmaker entered a police vehicle on his own accord and then refused to leave.

A smaller event in London prompted police to arrest 19 people who gathered to protest social distancing rules in the city’s iconic Hyde Park. Police representative Laurence Taylor described the gathering as “disappointing” and said the group had ignored the calls to disperse.

‘Propaganda purposes’

While some of the protesters reject vaccination and believe the pandemic to be a conspiracy, others oppose what they see as the government attempt to take away basic human rights under the guise of fighting the infection.

In Munich, a protester said that wearing masks and social distancing was “simply no longer necessary.”

“COVID-19 is a serious disease that must be taken seriously, but the consequences of the disease must be compared to the negative consequences that these measures may have” 43-year-old Markus Windebrandt was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency. “There is no medical evidence that wearing the mask works,” he added.

In the eastern city of Halle, police intervened after protesters verbally abused a camera crew working for the public broadcaster ZDF. At least three different camera crews have been physically assaulted since the protests escalated earlier this month.

Germany’s federal police warned that right-wing extremists were attempting to “instrumentalize the current situation for their propaganda purposes.” However, the authorities had no information that the extremists were actively trying to take control of the movement, a police spokeswoman told the Sunday edition of the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung.

رغم تجاوز عدد الوفيات حول العالم بسبب فيروس «كورونا»، أمس السبت، 310 آلاف حالة؛ أعلنت إيطاليا موعداً لفتح حدودها أمام المسافرين الأوروبيين، وشهدت شواطئ بعض الدول الأوروبية عودة الرواد مع انحسار وباء «كورونا» في أراضيها، بينما تتسع دائرة الانتشار في مناطق أخرى من العالم. وأقرّت الحكومة الإيطالية، السبت، مرسوماً يسمح بالسفر من البلاد وإليها اعتباراً من 3 يونيو المقبل، وقرّرت إلغاء الحجر الإلزامي للزوار الأجانب.

جاء المرسوم في ختام اجتماع لمجلس الوزراء دام حوالي 10 ساعات مساء الجمعة، برئاسة رئيس الوزراء جوزيبي كونتي.

وقالت الحكومة، في بيان: «ستطبّق هذه التدابير في إطار احترام العلاقات الناشئة من النظام القانوني للاتحاد الأوروبي»، مضيفة أن ذلك قد يتغيّر إذا برز مجدداً أي «خطر وبائي».

وتواصل دول أوروبية عدة تخفيف إجراءات الحجر الصارمة التي اتخذتها للتصدي لوباء «كورونا» واستئناف الأنشطة الطبيعية.

وقد تدفّق اليونانيون، أمس السبت، إلى الشواطئ بعد فتح أكثر من 500 شاطئ، في وقت تسعى فيه البلاد إلى المواءمة بين حماية الناس من فيروس «كورونا» وإحياء قطاع السياحة الذي يعتمد عليه الكثيرون في معيشتهم.

وتعيّن على رواد الشواطئ اتباع قواعد التباعد التي تطلّبت وجود مسافات بين المظلات.

وفي أليموس -وهو شاطئ شعبي متاخم لأثينا من جهة الجنوب- اصطفّ الناس منذ الصباح الباكر لأخذ مكانهم تحت الشمس.

كما أعلن رئيس الوزراء البرتغالي أنطونيو كوستا أن السلطات ستسمح بفتح الشواطئ يوم 6 يونيو المقبل، وحثّ الجمهور على حيازة تطبيق إلكتروني يبيّن لهم إن كان الشاطئ المفضّل لديهم مليئاً أم فيه متسع.

وبحسب القواعد الجديدة، يتعيّن أن يفصل بين كل مجموعة وأخرى 1.5 متر، مع إمكانية أن يحصل الرواد على كراسي الشاطئ في الصباح وبعد الظهر فقط، ولن يُسمح بالرياضات الشاطئية لشخصين أو أكثر.

وقال كوستا إن الشرطة لن تراقب الالتزام بالقواعد، مضيفاً أن «الشواطئ يجب أن تكون للمتعة.. يتعيّن أن نلتزم من تلقاء أنفسنا».

ومن المقرر أن تبدأ البرتغال غداً الاثنين المرحلة الثانية من خطة إعادة فتح الاقتصاد على مراحل، مع فتح المطاعم والمتاحف والمقاهي بنسبة محددة واستئناف الدراسة في مراحل معينة.

مظاهرات

وفي ألمانيا، خرج عشرات الآلاف من الأشخاص، بعد ظهر السبت في وسط العاصمة الألمانية برلين؛ للمشاركة في مظاهرات احتجاجاً على شروط «كورونا»، وخصصت الشرطة نحو 1000 فرد من أفرادها لتأمين هذه المظاهرات، كما احتشد الآلاف في بمدينة شتوتجارت للهدف ذاته.

والسبت، جرت احتجاجات في عدة مدن سويسرية ضد التدابير الاحترازية من الفيروس.

وفي برن، أغلقت الشرطة مدخل القصر الفيدرالي الذي يضم مقر الحكومة والبرلمان، وفق ما أفاد مصور لوكالة «فرانس برس».

واعتبر متظاهرون أن تدابير الإغلاق تنتهك حقوقهم الأساسية. وأوقفت الشرطة عشرات منهم، ووضعتهم في عربات خاصة، وفق المصور.

وفي بولندا، استخدمت الشرطة في العاصمة وارسو، أمس، الغاز المسيل للدموع لتفريق محتجين كانوا يطالبون الحكومة بتعجيل السماح بعودة الأنشطة التجارية المتوقفة في إطار جهود مكافحة فيروس كورونا.

استئناف التمويل

في غضون ذلك، أفادت أنباء من الولايات المتحدة بأن إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب قررت استئناف تمويل منظمة الصحة العالمية جزئياً، بعدما علّقته على خلفية انتقادها الشديد للمنظمة.

ونقلت قناة «فوكس نيوز» الأميركية، الجمعة، عن وثيقة رسمية أن إدارة ترمب «ستوافق على دفع ما يعادل ما تدفعه الصين من الإسهامات المقررة» لمنظمة الصحة العالمية.

وكان ترمب قد علّق التمويل الأميركي للمنظمة يوم 14 أبريل الماضي، متهماً إياها بتشجيع «التضليل» الصيني بشأن تفشّي فيروس «كورونا» المستجد، وقال إن إدارته ستبدأ مراجعة دور المنظمة. ونفى مسؤولو المنظمة اتهامات ترمب.
