Qatar Airways announces domestic US codeshare with American Airlines

Qatar Airways announced yesterday that the first stage of the strategic partnership with American Airlines has begun with Qatar Airways placing its code on American Airlines’ domestic flights, strengthening connectivity and creating hundreds of new travel options for passengers. 

The codeshare will be rolled out in phases over the next few weeks and once completed, will see Qatar Airways’ code placed on over 1,000 of American Airlines’ domestic flights connecting with Qatar Airway’s 10 US gateways. Flights are already available for sale, with the first codeshare flights having started recently on May 17, 2020.

The first phases of the codeshare will see Qatar Airways’ passengers able to book travel on American Airlines’ extensive domestic connections via Chicago and Dallas to 200 cities including Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Seattle, and San Francisco. Additional cities, including destinations in Central America, and the Caribbean will be added, subject to government approvals.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Simon Talling-Smith said: “This codeshare is just the first step in renewing our long-term strategic partnership with American Airlines. The rollout of this domestic codeshare demonstrates our airlines are confident about the future and during this difficult time we continue to focus on how we can enhance the customer experience for our millions of passengers. As two of the strongest airlines in the world, I have no doubt that we will overcome the current challenge and be well positioned to continue providing our passengers the reliable, safe and award-winning service that they have come to trust from us.” 

American Airlines Senior Vice President of Network Strategy, Vasu Raja said: “We are pleased that we’ve reached this important milestone with Qatar Airways. We look forward to welcoming Qatar Airways passengers throughout our domestic network as we continue to focus on the wellbeing of our customers, team members and the communities we serve during this uncertain time. This is just the beginning of a strong partnership and we have a very bright future ahead of us.”

Further expansion of the strategic partnership will include Qatar Airways placing its code on American’s international flights to North, Central and South America and Europe, and American Airlines placing its code on Qatar Airways flights between the US and Qatar and beyond to a range of destinations in the Middle-East, Africa and Asia. Both airlines will also continue exploring the opportunity for American Airlines to operate flights between the US and Qatar, along with a number of joint commercial and operational initiatives to further strengthen this renewed partnership.

Qatar Airways continues to operate approximately 150 scheduled flights per week to over 30 destinations. The airline recently announced plans to gradually rebuild its network in line with passenger demand evolution and the expected relaxation of entry restrictions around the world. By the end of June the airline plans to expand its network to 80 destinations. The national carrier of the State of Qatar has built a strong level of trust with passengers, governments, trade and airports as a reliable partner during this crisis. With its plans for expanding its network and strengthening airline partnerships, the airline is well positioned to continue delivering on its mission to the airline travellers can trust.

أعلنت الخطوط الجوية القطرية عن انطلاق المرحلة الأولى من شراكتها الاستراتيجية مع الخطوط الجوية الأميركية، وذلك مع وضع رمز الناقلة القطرية على الرحلات الداخلية للناقلة الأميركية، مما سينعكس إيجاباً بتعزيز شبكة وجهاتها وإتاحة المئات من خيارات السفر الجديدة أمام مسافريها. وستدخل هذه الاتفاقية حيز التنفيذ على مراحل على مدار الأسابيع المقبلة؛ ولدى اكتمالها، سيظهر رمز الخطوط الجوية القطرية على أكثر من 1000 رحلة داخلية للخطوط الجوية الأميركية. وقد تمّ طرح تذاكر السفر لهذه الرحلات للحجز، مع تشغيل أول رحلة رمز مشترك ضمن هذه الاتفاقية مؤخراً في 17 مايو 2020. وستتيح المرحلة الأولى من اتفاقية الرمز المشترك لمسافري الخطوط الجوية القطرية إمكانية الحجز للسفر على متن رحلات الخطوط الجوية الأميركية إلى شبكة وجهاتها المحليّة المتعددة عبر شيكاغو (ORD) ودالاس (DFW) إلى 200 وجهة. ومن هذه الوجهات: ميامي (MIA)، وهيوستن (IAH)، وأتلانتا (ATL)، وديترويت (DTW)، ومينيابوليس/سانت بول (MSP)، وسياتل (SEA)، وسان فرانسيسكو (SFO). وستتم إضافة مدن جديدة، من ضمنها وجهات في أميركا الوسطى والكاريبي، بناءً على الموافقات الحكومية.

وقال السيد سايمون تالينغ سميث، رئيس العمليات التجارية في الخطوط الجوية القطرية: «تعتبر اتفاقية الرمز المشترك هذه بمثابة الخطوة الأولى في تجديد شراكتنا الاستراتيجية طويلة الأمد مع الخطوط الجوية الأميركية. كما تأتي هذه الاتفاقية للتعبير عن مدى ثقتنا بالمستقبل، وعن مدى حرصنا على أنه حتى وخلال هذه الأوقات العصيبة فإننا لا ندخر جهداً لتعزيز تجربة السفر للملايين من مسافرينا. وبوصفنا اثنتين من أقوى شركات الطيران على مستوى العالم، فإنني على يقين بأننا سنتجاوز التحديات الماثلة أمامنا، وسنكون بموقع يمكّننا من الاستمرار بتوفير الخدمات الأفضل والأكثر مرونة وأماناً على مستوى العالم لمسافرينا الذين منحونا ثقتهم». من جانبه قال السيد فاسو راجا، نائب أول الرئيس لاستراتيجية شبكة الوجهات في الخطوط الجوية الأميركية: «يسرّنا إبرام هذه الاتفاقية مع الخطوط الجوية القطرية، التي نتطلّع لاستقبال مسافريها على رحلاتنا المحلية. وسنواصل تركيز جهودنا للمحافظة على سلامة مسافرينا وفريق عملنا والمجتمعات التي نخدمها خلال هذه الأوقات العصيبة. إن هذه الخطوة ما هي إلا بداية لشراكة متينة، ومستقبل مشرق نتطلع إليه». وسيشمل التوسّع الإضافي لهذه الشراكة الاستراتيجية وضع رمز الخطوط الجوية القطرية على رحلات الخطوط الجوية الأميركية المتجهة إلى أميركا الشمالية والوسطى والجنوبية وأوروبا، ووضع رمز الخطوط الجوية الأميركية على رحلات الخطوط الجوية القطرية من أميركا إلى الدوحة ومنها إلى العديد من الوجهات في الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا وآسيا.

وستواصل كلتا الناقلتين البحث عن الفرص التي تسمح للخطوط الجوية الأميركية بتشغيل رحلاتها بين أميركا وقطر، بالإضافة إلى عدد من المبادرات التجارية والتشغيلية المشتركة لتعزيز هذه الشراكة المتجددة.
