QFZA, QSTP sign MoU to back R&D, entrepreneurship
شراكة بين «المناطق الحرة» و«واحة التكنولوجيا» في مجالات البحث وريادة الأعمال
The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to oversee, regulate, and support research development and entrepreneurship efforts to foster the establishment of a sustainable knowledge-based economy in Qatar.
The collaborative programme will enable QFZA and QSTP – which is part of Qatar Foundation Research, Development, and Innovation – to support research, development, innovation, and entrepreneurship within their respective areas based on identified and prioritised segments that will have a positive contribution to the number of innovators, specialised workforce, businesses, and the startup environment.
The agreement will include a mechanism for training programmes and information sharing, as well as joint promotion events to strengthen the investment sector.
Qatar Foundation vice chairperson and CEO Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani said, “I am excited to see the new startups and ventures that will come out of this partnership. Providing access and building up the capabilities of our homegrown talent is even more critical in this current climate. We must continue to explore new ways of thinking and innovate in order to build a truly sustainable and resilient nation.”
HE the Minister of State and QFZA chairman Ahmad bin Mohamed al-Sayed said, “We are pleased to sign this agreement with QSTP, which is in line with the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani on aligning the efforts of the concerned investment entities. The MoU will allow us to go further in our continued support of Qatar’s technology and innovation sectors, and enhance the growing technology ecosystem within Qatar.”
He added: “We look forward to welcoming innovative international businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurs, and startups to explore all that Qatar Free Zones and QSTP have to offer .”
Since its establishment in October 2018, Qatar Free Zones has approved projects worth a total of more than QR3bn from a wide range of leading local and global companies focused on the new economy, sustainability, IT, communications, transport, logistics, medical services, aviation, cybersecurity, and agritech.
Over QR4.3bn has been invested in research, development, and innovation activities by international companies registered at QSTP. The technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship hub is currently home to over 50 companies, including 20 multinational companies, and has incubated 22 technology-focused Qatari startups. Since 2008, more than 1,000 people have participated in its innovation programmes.
أعلنت هيئة المناطق الحرة وواحة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا عن توقيعهما مذكرة تفاهم للتعاون المشترك، بهدف الإشراف وتنظيم مجالات تطوير البحث العلمي وريادة الأعمال التكنولوجية لدعم جهود الدولة الرامية إلى بناء اقتصاد مستدام وقائم على المعرفة. وبناءً على الاتفاقية، يقوم الجانبان بدعم أنشطة البحث والتطوير والابتكار وريادة الأعمال في مجالات محددة، بناءً على القطاعات ذات الأولوية والتي ستساهم في زيادة استقطاب المبتكرين وأصحاب المهارات المتخصصة، وتهيئة البيئة المناسبة للشركات بجميع أنواعها ورجال الأعمال. كما يتضمّن الاتفاق آلية عمل لوضع وتنفيذ برامج التدريب وتبادل المعلومات، فضلاً عن الترويج الاستثماري المشترك.
قالت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع والرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة: «نحن نتطلع بحماس إلى الشركات الناشئة والمشاريع الجديدة التي ستُثمر عن هذه الشراكة؛ إذ يُعدّ بناء القدرات وإتاحة الفرص للكفاءات الوطنية أكثر أهمية في الظروف الراهنة. لا بدّ لنا من المضي قدماً في السعي نحو استكشاف طرق جديدة للتفكير والابتكار من أجل بناء مستقبل أكثر استدامة ومرونة».
وقال سعادة أحمد بن محمد السيد، وزير الدولة ورئيس مجلس إدارة هيئة المناطق الحرة: «يسرّنا توقيع هذه الاتفاقية مع واحة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا، والتي تأتي ضمن توجيهات معالي الشيخ خالد بن خليفة بن عبدالعزيز رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الداخلية، بزيادة التنسيق بين الأجهزة المعنية بجذب الاستثمارات وتنمية الأعمال؛ حيث ستمكّننا من المضي قدماً نحو تحقيق التكامل بين المؤسستين لدعم قطاع التكنولوجيا والابتكار في دولة قطر، واستقطاب شركات دولية تلبّي احتياجات الدولة في مختلف الصناعات».
وأضاف قائلاً: «نتطلع إلى أن يثمر هذا التعاون عن استقطاب الشركات بجميع أنواعها ورجال الأعمال، وتوحيد الجهود لتعزيز الاستفادة من المزايا المتعددة التي تقدمها المناطق الحرة وواحة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا».
تجدر الإشارة إلى أنّه منذ تأسيس الهيئة في أكتوبر 2018، تم اعتماد مشاريع بقيمة إجمالية بلغت أكثر من ثلاثة مليارات ريال أو ما يقارب مليار دولار، من مجموعة واسعة من الشركات محلياً وعالمياً ضمن قطاعات الاقتصاد الجديد، والاستدامة، وتقنية المعلومات، بالإضافة إلى الاتصالات والمواصلات، وخدمات الدعم اللوجستي، والخدمات الطبية، والطيران، والأمن السيبراني، والتقنيات الزراعية.
استثمرت شركات عالمية مسجلة في واحة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا أكثر من 4.3 مليار ريال في أنشطة البحوث والتطوير والابتكار بالواحة. وتحتضن الواحة التي تشكّل مركزاً للتكنولوجيا والابتكار وريادة الأعمال في الوقت الراهن أكثر من 50 شركة، منها 20 شركة متعددة الجنسيات، إلى جانب 22 شركة قطرية ناشئة تركز على التكنولوجيا. ومنذ عام 2008، شارك أكثر من 1000 شخص في برامج الابتكار بالواحة.
