Qatar Petroleum starts development drilling campaign of North Field East Project

Doha: Qatar Petroleum has announced the start of the development drilling campaign for the North Field East Project, or NFE (previously known as the North Field Expansion Project).
The first of 80 NFE development wells was spudded on 29 March by the jack-up rig “GulfDrill Lovanda”, which is managed and operated by GulfDrill, a joint venture between the Qatar based drilling champion, Gulf Drilling International, and Seadrill Limited.
Commenting on this occasion, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, said, “The start of the development drilling campaign for NFE represents an important milestone to deliver on our strategy to grow our LNG production capacity. The continued achievement of milestones, dedication of significant resources and making of substantial investments is proof that the NFE remains on top of our priorities and demonstrates our commitment to executing this mega-project.”
His Excellency Minister Al Kaabi added, “I would like to thank Qatar Petroleum and Qatargas management and teams for this important achievement and for making sure that every component of the project is delivered safely.”
This phase of the North Field expansion project will increase the State of Qatars liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity from 77 million tons per annum (Mtpa) to 110 Mtpa. The second phase of the North Field LNG Expansion Project, called the North Field South Project (NFS), will further increase Qatars LNG production capacity from 110 Mtpa to 126 Mtpa.
Qatar Petroleum had earlier awarded a number of contracts for jack-up drilling rigs to be utilized for the drilling of 80 development wells for the NFE. The installation of the first four Offshore Jackets in Qatari waters is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

أعلنت قطر للبترول بدء حملة أعمال حفر الآبار التطويرية لمشروع توسعة حقل الشمال. وقد تم في 29 مارس بدء حفر أول بئر من مجموع 80 بئراً سيتم حفرها للمشروع بواسطة منصة الحفر (غلف دريل لوفاندا) التابعة لشركة غلف دريل، المملوكة من قبل تحالف شركة الخليج العالمية للحفر القطرية وشركة سي دريل العالمية، المتخصصتين في تشغيل منصات الحفر.
في معرض تعليقه على بدء عمليات الحفر، صرَّح سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول، قائلاً: «يمثّل إطلاق حملة أعمال الحفر التطويري معلماً مهماً على طريق تحقيق استراتيجيتنا الهادفة إلى زيادة طاقتنا الإنتاجية من الغاز الطبيعي المُسال. إن توالي تحقيق الإنجازات وتخصيص الموارد والقيام باستثمارات كبيرة دليل على التزامنا بتنفيذ هذا المشروع الضخم، وعلى أن مشروع التوسعة لا يزال على رأس أولوياتنا».
ويهدف مشروع توسعة حقل الشمال إلى زيادة القدرة الإنتاجية لدولة قطر من الغاز الطبيعي المُسال من 77 مليون طن سنوياً إلى 126 مليون طن سنوياً على مرحلتين. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن «قطر للبترول» كانت قد قامت في وقت سابق بمنح عدد من العقود لاستخدام وتشغيل منصات بحرية لحفر ثمانين بئراً للمرحلة الأولى من المشروع. كما بدأت أعمال تركيب القوائم الأربع الأولى لمنصات الإنتاج في المياه القطرية وسيتم الانتهاء منها بنهاية الشهر الحالي.
واختتم سعادة الوزير الكعبي التعليق بالقول: «أود أن أغتنم هذه الفرصة لأشكر الإدارة والعاملين على هذا المشروع من قطر للبترول وقطرغاز، وأن أعرب عن عميق امتناني لجميع منتسبي قطاع الطاقة في دولة قطر، الذي يستمر بالعمل بتفان والتزام كبيرين في ظل الظروف الحالية لضمان أن تفي قطر بسمعتها كمنتج طاقة جدير بالثقة، يمكن الاعتماد عليه في جميع الأوقات وتحت كل الظروف».
