Education Ministry, DFI launch short film contest

Opening new avenues to creative development and education, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has partnered with the Doha Film Institute (DFI) to deliver the recurring ‘School Stars’ short film competition for public and private school students in Qatar.

The recurring short film competition launched yesterday has the theme ‘The Bright Side’ and  students are invited to submit short films that explore and express their views, observations and their experience in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The open community-wide initiative invites Arabic and other language-speaking students to participate by creating 30-60 second films that capture the essence of the presented theme and reflect their opinions and ideas on the proposed topics. Submissions across the three categories: 1st – 4th Grade (Category 1), 5th – 8th Grade (Category 2), and 9th – 12th Grade (Category 3) will be evaluated by separate juries appointed by the DFI based on script quality, storyline, cinematography and originality.

Mohamad Ahmad Al Bishry, Advisor to the Minister of Education and Higher Education, said: “The competition is a continuation of the existing collaborations with the Doha Film Institute as a national organisation that shares in our commitment to explore new platforms for learning and ensure undisrupted access to quality education. The short film competition has been designed to inspire the youth and draw on the next generation’s immense potential to discover creative solutions and adapt to new challenges. We look forward to extending our partnership through this community-wide initiative which underlines our joint dedication to youth development in Qatar and is a fun challenge for the young people to explore the limitless possibilities of storytelling.”

Open to all currently enrolled public and private school students in Qatar, the ‘School Stars’ short film competition will present new themes every few weeks with online film submissions through the competition website on https://www.dohafilminstitute.com/pages/young-voices-short-film-competition in Arabic and other languages, provided there is a translation. Submitted films will be featured across the Ministry’s and DFI’s social media platforms, in addition to Qatar TV educational channels 1 and 2. Three winning films from each category will receive cash prizes in addition to complimentary access to DFI youth workshops and the exclusive opportunity to participate in the Ajyal Jury programme (age appropriate) in the upcoming edition of the Institute’s annual celebration of culture and art – the Ajyal Film Festival.

Film submissions should summarise the students’ creative interpretation of an item related to the ongoing theme. Parents can assist in filming, and in current circumstances all filming should be completed at home with family members only to ensure the health and safety of all.

As a regional hub for education and community, DFI aims to partner with national organisations and governmental entities to empower the next generation, promote an environment of creativity and dialogue, and make learning accessible through the power of film.

الدوحة – قنا

أطلقت وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي بالاشتراك مع مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، اليوم، مسابقة دورية بعنوان “نجوم المدارس” للأفلام القصيرة لطلاب المدارس الحكومية والخاصة في دولة قطر.

وستطرح المسابقة الدورية للأفلام القصيرة، موضوعًا جديدًا في كل نسخة، حيث تتناول في نسختها الأولى موضوع “الجانب المشرق”، وذلك بدعوة الطلاب لتقديم أفلام قصيرة تعكس وتعبر عن آرائهم وملاحظاتهم وخبرتهم فيما يتعلق بفيروس كورونا (كوفيد-19) المنتشر حالياً.

ودعت المبادرة المفتوحة على مستوى المجتمع كلاً من الطلاب الناطقين باللغة العربية واللغات الأخرى للمشاركة من خلال إنشاء فيلم تتراوح مدته بين 30 و60 ثانية يجسد جوهر الموضوع المعروض ويعكس آراءهم وأفكارهم حول المواضيع المقترحة. ويكون التقديم عبر ثلاث فئات: (الفئة الأولى) من الصف الأول إلى الصف الرابع، و(الفئة الثانية) من الصف الخامس إلى الصف الثامن، و(الفئة الثالثة) من الصف التاسع إلى الصف الثاني عشر.

وستقوم هيئة تحكيم منفصلة يتم تعيينها من قبل مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام بتقييم الأفلام استنادًا إلى جودة النَّص، القصة، الفئة السينمائية والأصالة.

وتعد هذه المسابقة استمراراً للتعاون القائم بين وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي ومؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام باعتبارها مؤسسة وطنية تشارك الوزارة التزامها باستكشاف منصات جديدة للتعلم وضمان الوصول إلى تعليم جيد دون انقطاع.

وتم تصميم مسابقة الأفلام القصيرة لإلهام الشباب والاستفادة من الإمكانات الهائلة للجيل القادم واكتشاف الحلول الإبداعية والتكيف مع التحديات الجديدة.

كما ستقدم مسابقة الأفلام القصيرة “نجوم المدارس” المفتوحة أمام طلاب المدارس الحكومية والخاصة المسجلين في دولة قطر، مواضيع جديدة في كل نسخة، حيث يتم إرسال الأفلام عبر الإنترنت على موقع المسابقة وهو https://www.dohafilminstitute.com/pages/young-voices-short-film-competition باللغات العربية والأخرى (شرط وجود ترجمة).

وسيتم عرض الأفلام المقدمة على منصات وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي الخاصة بالوزارة ومؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، بالإضافة إلى قنوات تلفزيون قطر التعليمية 1 والتعليمية 2 وسيحصل أصحاب الأفلام الثلاثة الفائزة من كل فئة على جوائز نقدية بالإضافة إلى فرصة للمشاركة في ورش عمل الشباب في مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، وفرصة حصرية للمشاركة ببرنامج حكام مهرجان أجيال السينمائي (بحسب العمر المناسب) في النسخة القادمة.

وأعربت السيدة فاطمة حسن الرميحي، الرئيسة التنفيذية لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام في تصريح اليوم، عن سعادتها بشراكة المؤسسة مع وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي في هذه المبادرة التي وصفتها بـ”المميزة”، مؤكدة على أن تمكين الشباب في دولة قطر، يعد أمرًا محوريًا في مهمة مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، حيث تشكل هذه المسابقة فرصة مميزة للطلاب من جميع الأعمار لممارسة وإبراز قدراتهم الإبداعية.

وأوضحت الرميحي، أن الأوقات الصعبة تتطلب إيجاد حلول مبتكرة، منوهة إلى أن الهدف من خلال المسابقة الدورية للأفلام القصيرة هو إضافة قيمة إلى تجربة التعلم وتزويد العقول الشابة بسبل بديلة للتعبير المُبدع.

وأضافت:” نأمل من خلال مشاريع كهذه أن نلهم الجيل القادم على التفكير الإبداعي وإحداث تأثير إيجابي في دولة قطر وفي العالم على نطاق أوسع ولسنوات عديدة في المستقبل”.

يشار إلى أن عملية إرسال الأفلام تلخص التفسير المبدع للطلاب لأحد العناصر المتعلقة بالموضوع المطروح. إذ يمكن للوالدين المساعدة في التصوير، وفي ظل الظروف الراهنة يجب إتمام التصوير بأكمله في المنزل مع أفراد العائلة فقط لضمان صحة وسلامة الجميع.

وتهدف مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، باعتبارها مركزا إقليميا للتعليم والمجتمع، إلى عقد شراكات مع المؤسسات الوطنية والهيئات الحكومية لتمكين الجيل القادم، وتعزيز منظومة الإبداع والحوار، وتوفير فرص التعلم من خلال قوة الفيلم.
