Ooredoo and malomatia sign MoU to support smart cities

Ooredoo, the region’s leading enabler of digital business innovation, yesterday announced that it has joined forces with malomatia, a leading national provider of IT services and solutions, to enable Qatar’s smart cities’ growth.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoO) to create comprehensive smart cities offering tailored to the Qatari market.

Thanks to Qatar National Vision 2030’s goals of nationwide digital transformation and the strategies that were put in place to realise this vision, the country is ideally positioned to become a regional and global smart cities leader, Ooredoo said in a statement.

Use cases include smart traffic and logistics solutions to reduce congestion and increase efficiency, an ecosystem of smart healthcare solutions to transform patient care, smart buildings and environmental services to enhance sustainability and reduce utilities usage, the

statement notes.

Already, Ooredoo has pioneered smart cities in Qatar, such as collaborating on Lusail City and piloting the world’s first 5G-enabled aerial taxi. In turn, malomatia will leverage its extensive expertise in delivering digital transformation programmes, national experience and a deep local knowledge of existing business needs.

“Our partnership with malomatia is combining Ooredoo’s leading digital infrastructure technology with malomatia’s expertise in smart cities to support Qatar as a smart cities pioneer. Smart transportation, smart logistics, healthcare and sustainability can support Qatar’s diversified economic growth and competitiveness, and make people’s daily lives better,” said Yousuf Abdulla al-Kubaisi, chief operating officer, Ooredoo.

Ooredoo’s combination of advanced digital technologies – including data centre and cloud, cybersecurity, Internet of Things – will form the technological foundation of Smart Cities. Ooredoo can also provide global best practices to ensure that Qatar has the most advanced systems and processes to bring smart cities to life.
