Rally Champion Nasser Al Attiyah turns engine on at the 2020 Dakar; Rally Start Podium in Saudi Arabia

The latest epic Dakar Rally adventure is under starter’s orders in Saudi Arabia. Desert racers have come from all over the world to test themselves against the world’s toughest rally. On Sunday, January 5 the first stage of 2020 Dakar takes competitors a mammoth 752 kilometres as they leave Jeddah and head north to Al Wajh.
Reigning Dakar car champion Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) is a frontrunner for success in Saudi Arabia. Alongside co-driver Matthieu Baumel (FRA) and at the wheel of his Toyota Hilux, Al-Attiyah has been on great form during recent years. A dune-driving natural, it’s hard not to see the Qatari challenging for a fourth Dakar title in January.
Nasser Al-Attiyah #300: “I would like to thank everybody who has made it possible to bring the Dakar to the Middle East. I’ve now won the Dakar three times and I’ll be going all out to win a fourth. It has long been a dream of mine to see the Dakar come to this region. I hope everybody will enjoy this race.”
“OK, the location has changed but the Dakar will still be the Dakar. It will still be tough, we know that. I’m always learning. Even when you win, like we did at the last Dakar, you can still learn a lot. There’s so many good drivers out there, the only way to stay in front is to be at your best every day of the rally.” Added Al Attiyah.
The Dakar has come to the Middle East from its first home in Africa, via a magical decade in South America. This third chapter of motorsports’ ultimate test of endurance has invigorated everybody – from multiple champions to rookie racers. Now offroaders in 83 cars, 144 bikes, 46 side-by-sides, 46 trucks and 23 quads will tackle perilous terrain and test their skills to the limit. All of this will happen in a new country, as Saudi Arabia becomes the 30th nation to host the truly international Dakar Rally.

وسيكون بطل رالي دكار الحالي ناصر العطية (قطر) المرشح الأوفر حظاً لتحقيق النجاح في االمنطقة، وإلى جانبه ملاحه ماتيو بوميل (فرنسا)، في سيارة تويوتا هايلوكس. والسائق القطري الذي كان في قمة أدائه في السنوات الأخيرة، هو بلا شك خبير في السباقات الصحراوية، ومنافس طبيعي يسعى لإحراز لقب رابع في رالي دكار في يناير.
ناصر العطية #300: “أريد أن أوجه الشكر لكل من ساهم في إحضار داكار إلى الشرق الأوسط. فزت حتى اليوم برالي داكار ثلاث مرات، وسأبذل كل ما في وسعي لتحقيق لقب رابع. لطالما حلمت في وصول داكار إلى هذه المنطقة، وآمل أن يستمتع الجميع بالسباق“.
و أضاف العطية: “حسناً، الموقع تغيّر لكن رالي دكار سيبقى رالي دكار. سيبقى صعباً، نعرف ذلك. أنا أتعلّم دوماً منه. حتى عند الفوز، مثلما فعلنا في آخر دكار، يمكن تعلم الكثير. هناك الكثير من السائقين الجيدين، والطريقة الوحيدة للتفوق عليهم هي أن تكون في قمة أدائك في كل يوم من الرالي“.
ويصل داكار إلى الشرق الأوسط من موطنه الأول إفريقيا، مروراً بعقد سحري من الزمن في أميركا الجنوبية. وقد حرّك هذا الفصل الثالث لأقسى اختبارات التحمّل في عالم رياضة المحركات الحماسة في قلوب الجميع، من الأبطال المخضرمين وصولاً إلى المتسابقين المبتدئين.
وسيخوض متسابقو الطرقات الوعرة الرالي على مسار مثير للتحدي، واضعين مهاراتهم قيد الاختبار، وهم سيتوزعون على 83 سيارة، 144 دراجة، 46 باغي خفيفة “سايد باي سايد” (SxS)، 46 شاحنة، و23 دراجة كواد. وكل ذلك سيحصل في بلد جديد، عندما تصبح المملكة العربية السعودية البلد الثلاثين الذي يستضيف رالي داكار الدولي.
