Doha Film Institute picks record 42 projects for Fall Grants
«الدوحة للأفلام» تعلن اختيار 42 مشروعاً في دورة «منح الخريف»
An unprecedented slate of 42 projects by first-and-second-time, and established MENA filmmakers from around the world and emerging names from the region have been selected for the Doha Film Institute (DFI) Fall 2019 Grants cycle.
Underlining the important role of Arab women in filmmaking, 20 of the chosen projects are by talented female directors including Qatari nationals.
The DFI Grants programme has evolved as a key initiative for identifying new cinematic voices and talent and discovering universally resonant stories.
The programme is focused on supporting the region’s filmmakers to realise their storytelling aspirations by elevating original voices in cinema, promoting creative interaction and providing creative support throughout the filmmaking cycle to establish a robust film ecosystem in the Arab world.
Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Chief Executive Officer of DFI, said: “The Institute’s Grants programme is a unique resource for the next generation of filmmakers from the Arab world and beyond. It is a manifestation of a shared vision, ours and that of the filmmakers we support, to tell bold stories through films that help us understand what it means to be human.
“With a record 42 recipients, the latest programme cycle also highlights the Institute’s broadened reach — both regionally and globally — and its recognition among emerging filmmakers who entrust their creative vision to our funding initiatives.
“Covering all genres and experimenting with narrative styles, the 2019 Fall Grants recipients are pushing the boundaries of world cinema and adding to its diversity. Each project — from Mexico to India and the Dominican Republic to Romania, tells an important story that is specific to its local context but also universal. Many of the stories originate from women filmmakers who represent a powerful creative force in the Arab world and are a testament to the ever-growing talent pool that exists in our region.”
The Fall 2019 Grants covers a wide range of film productions, including feature, documentary, short film, and TV series.
Among the 42 projects selected for the Fall 2019 Grants cycle are the next recipients of the TV series grants including two projects by Qatari talent.
Highlighting its role as a champion of Arab cinema, 35 selected projects represent powerful emerging voices from the MENA region, including seven by Qatari directors. Seven projects in post-production stage, helmed by international filmmakers have been chosen, representing, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Switzerland, India, Romania, Italy, Ukraine and Argentina.
اختارت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، 42 مشروعاً لصنّاع أفلام يخوضون تجاربهم الأولى والثانية في الإخراج من منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وجميع أنحاء العالم، بالإضافة إلى صنّاع أفلام صاعدين من المنطقة، للمشاركة في دورة منح خريف 2019، برنامج التمويل السينمائي الرائد في المنطقة الذي يصقل مواهب الجيل القادم من الأصوات السينمائية. وتأكيداً لدور المرأة العربية المهم في صناعة الأفلام، تم اختيار 20 مشروعاً لـ 20 صانعة أفلام موهوبة من المنطقة، من ضمنهم صانعة أفلام قطرية.
برنامج المنح
وفي معرض تعليقها على دورة منح خريف 2019، قالت فاطمة حسن الرميحي، الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام: «يعدّ برنامج المؤسسة للمنح مورداً فريداً للجيل القادم من صنّاع الأفلام من العالم العربي وخارجه. وهو مظهر من مظاهر الرؤية المشتركة، رؤيتنا ورؤية صنّاع الأفلام الذين نقدّم لهم الدعم ليتمكنوا من سرد قصص جريئة من خلال الأفلام التي تساعدنا على إدراك الذات. ومن خلال السجل القياسي الذي يضم 42 فيلماً حاصلاً على المنحة. تسلّط الدورة الأخيرة للبرنامج الضوء على مدى اتساع رقعة انتشار المؤسسة -على الصعيدين الإقليمي والعالمي- وبروزها بين صنّاع الأفلام الصاعدين الذين يعهدون برؤيتهم الإبداعية لمبادراتنا التمويلية».
وأضافت: «ومن خلال تغطية العديد من الأنماط السينمائية والأساليب السردية المختلفة، يقوم متلقي دعم دورة منح خريف 2019 بدفع حدود العالم السينمائي والمساهمة في تنوعه. تروي جميع المشاريع، من المكسيك إلى الهند وجمهورية الدومينيكان إلى رومانيا، قصة مهمة خاصة بمنطقتها المحلية وأيضاً بالعالم كله. كما قدّمت العديد من صنّاع الأفلام النساء قصصاً تمثّل قوة سرد قصصي في العالم العربي وشهادة على عدد المواهب المتنامي في المنطقة».
42 مشروعاً
تضمّ منح خريف 2019 مجموعة كبيرة من الأفلام، من ضمنها الأفلام الطويلة، والوثائقية، والقصيرة، والمسلسلات. وضمّت المشاريع الـ 42 التي تم اختيارها لدورة منح خريف 2019 مستفيدين من منح الأعمال الروائية التلفزيونية والمسلسلات، بما في ذلك مشروعان لمواهب قطرية. ويمثّل 35 مشروعاً لأصوات صاعدة من منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، من بينهم سبعة مشاريع لمخرجين قطريين، الدور البارز التي تلعبه السينما العربية. كما تم اختيار سبعة مشاريع في مرحلة ما بعد الإنتاج لصنّاع أفلام عالميين، من جمهورية الدومينيكان والمكسيك وسويسرا والهند ورومانيا وإيطاليا وأوكرانيا والأرجنتين.
