DHL Express to establish major logistics facility in Qatar Free Zones

*DHL and Qatar Free Zones Authority expect the facility to be operational in time to accommodate the many international express logistics requirements of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
DHL Express, the world’s largest express network, signed an agreement with Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) Wednesday to establish a QR120mn logistics facility at Ras Bufontas Free Zone.
HE the Minister of State and QFZA chairman Ahmad al-Sayed hosted a signing ceremony at Sharq Village & Spa Hotel, Doha. QFZA deputy CEO Abdulla al-Misnad and DHL Express Middle East and North Africa CEO Nour Suliman were the signatories.
The event was also attended by DHL’s deputy vice president of operations for the Mena, Bachi Spiga, who joined the tour of DHL facilities at Ras Bufontas Free Zone, adjacent to Hamad International Airport (HIA).

We are excited to partner with DHL to strengthen QFZA’s value proposition to our tenants, investors and partners, both locally and globally, and look forward to working closely with them as we enhance our logistics offering,” HE al-Sayed said in a statement.

State-of-the-art facility
The facility, according to DHL, will be a state-of-the-art operation using world-class automated sorting, ULD processing, screening systems and advanced IP based CCTV.
DHL will also add all required supportive administration in Ras Bufontas. The facility will be developed to DHL Express global specifications and TAPA Certification and will conform to all local regulatory requirements.
DHL joins more than 50 leading companies and projects that are in the process of establishing their operations in the free zones, including major international corporations such as Gaussin (France), Unistrong (China), China Harbour Engineering Company (China), WASCO (Malaysia) Inventus Power (US), Trade shift (US), Thales Group (France) and Volkswagen (Germany), representing a wide range of both geographies and sectors.

“This new facility, one of the landmark buildings in Ras Bufontas Free Zone, will offer cutting-edge logistics solutions, opening up new product areas and supporting the activities of all businesses in Qatar Free Zones (QFZ), as well as the Qatar market more broadly,” the Minister noted.
“Qatar Free Zones offer a wide range of benefits and such partnerships are a testament to our ongoing commitment to strengthening Qatar’s position as a global hub for trade,” HE al-Sayed added.
Under the agreement, DHL’s world-class courier express logistics facility at Ras Bufontas Free Zone will offer high-quality services to their customer base both in Qatar and overseas once operational.
The facility will incorporate 17 delivery bays over a plot size of more than 19,000sq m and occupy a prime logistical position directly adjacent to HIA and within Qatar Free Zones, allowing DHL free movement of personnel, customers, suppliers and shipments into and out of the facility.
According to DHL, the facility will also open up a new product offering of Break Bulk Express (BBC), which has applications across the retail, Information, Communication and Technology and eCommerce sectors. It will also offer a dedicated medical supply division storage area.

“Qatar is on track towards becoming a logistics hub to the world, offering world class services that are in harmony with our plans for our network,” he said, adding that DHL will start operating at QFZ in the second half of this year.
وقعت هيئة المناطق الحرة وشركة “دي إتش إل إكسبريس” المتخصصة في البريد السريع، اتفاقية اليوم، بهدف تأسيس منشأة كبيرة للخدمات اللوجستية في منطقة راس بوفنطاس الحرة المجاورة لمطار حمد الدولي.
وقع الاتفاقية كل من السيد عبدالله بن حمد المسند، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي للهيئة، والسيد نور سليمان، الرئيس التنفيذي في “دي إتش إل إكسبريس الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا”، وذلك بحضور سعادة السيد أحمد بن محمد السيد، وزير الدولة ورئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة، والسيد باكي سبيجا، رئيس العمليات في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا في شركة “دي اتش ال اكسبريس”.
وبموجب الاتفاقية، تؤسس “دي إتش إل” مركزا إقليميا عالمي المستوى للخدمات اللوجستية والبريد السريع في منطقة راس بوفنطاس الحرة، لتقديم خدمات عالية الجودة إلى قاعدة عملائها الواسعة في قطر ومختلف أنحاء العالم.
ومن المقرر أن تحتوي المنشأة التي تصل تكلفتها إلى نحو 120 مليون ريال، على 17 رصيف تسليم، وقد شيدت على مساحة تزيد عن 19 ألف متر مربع، وتحتل موقعا استراتيجيا هاما عند مدخل مطار حمد الدولي داخل المناطق الحرة، مما سيتيح لشركة “دي إتش إل” سهولة تنقل الموظفين والعملاء والموردين والشحنات من وإلى المنشأة.
ومن المرتقب أن تتيح المنشأة عرض منتجات جديد باسم “بريك بلك إكسبريس”، الذي يحمل تطبيقات في قطاعات تجارة التجزئة وتقنية المعلومات والاتصالات والتجارة الإلكترونية، كما ستوفر منطقة مخصصة لتخزين الإمدادات الطبية.
وتعليقا على توقيع الاتفاقية، قال سعادة السيد أحمد بن محمد السيد، وزير الدولة ورئيس مجلس إدارة هيئة المناطق الحرة، إن الشراكة مع “دي إتش إل” ستعزز من المزايا التي توفرها هيئة المناطق الحرة للشركات المسجلة لدى الهيئة والمستثمرين والشركاء، على الصعيدين المحلي والعالمي.. معربا عن تطلعه للعمل بشكل وثيق مع “دي إتش إل” في إطار مساعي الهيئة لتعزيز باقة عروضها من الخدمات اللوجستية.
من جانبه قال السيد نور سليمان، الرئيس التنفيذي في “دي إتش إل إكسبريس الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا”، إن الشركة تلتزم بتحقيق أهدافها التنموية، مبينا أن استثمارها في المناطق الحرة في قطر يأتي ضمن خططها التوسعية مما سيضمن مواكبة احتياجات السوق على الدوام.
وتوقع أن تباشر /دي اتش ال/ أعمالها في المناطق الحرة في النصف الثاني من العام الحالي.. مثمنا مواصلة دولة قطر لمسيرتها الاستثنائية بخطى واثقة لتصبح مركزا دوليا للدعم اللوجستي وتوفير خدمات عالمية المستوى تنسجم مع الخطط المنشودة لشبكة دي اتش ال إقليميا وعالميا.
كما أشاد السيد عبدالله بن حمد المسند، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي لهيئة المناطق الحرة بالاتفاقية، مؤكدا أن المنشأة الحديثة لـ/دي اتش إل/ ستستخدم معدات تصنيف عالمية المستوى وتقنيات متطورة لمعالجة أجهزة تحميل الوحدات وأنظمة فحص متقدمة فضلا عن كاميرات المراقبة المغلقة القائمة على بروتوكول الإنترنت.
وأضاف أن شركة “دي إتش إل” ستضيف كافة فرق الدعم الإداري اللازمة ضمن منشأتها في راس بو فنطاس، فيما يتم بناء المنشأة مع مراعاة المواصفات العالمية لشركة “دي إتش إل إكسبريس” وشهادة ترخيص جمعية حماية الأصول المنقولة “تابا”، بالإضافة إلى موافقتها للمستلزمات التنظيمية المعتمدة محليا.
وبهذه الاتفاقية التي وقعت اليوم، تنضم “دي إتش إل” إلى أكثر من 50 مشروعا وشركة رائدة ستباشر أعمالها في المناطق الحرة هذا العام، بما فيها كبرى الشركات العالمية مثل “يونيسترونغ الصينية” و”تشاينا هاربر للهندسة” ومجموعة “تاليس الفرنسية” و”فولكسفاغن الألمانية” و”واسكو الماليزية”، و”غيسين الفرنسية” و”إفنتس باور الأمريكية” التي تمثل طيفا واسعا من الأسواق والقطاعات.
