Sheikha Al Mayassa tours Indian fashion exhibition
الشيخة المياسة تزور معرض الأزياء الهندية المعاصرة
The first day of the sustainable Indian fashion exhibition welcomed HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairperson, Qatar Museums (QM), at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
The event, in collaboration with Caravane Earth, showcased a curated selection of contemporary Indian fashion and textiles, and presented a new initiative celebrating sustainability, heritage, and traditional craftsmanship.
A symposium, on Thursday, was moderated by Bandana Tewari, sustainability activist and former Vogue India editor. The speakers were Tania al-Majid, associate curator at the National Museum of Qatar; Pavitra Muddaya, head of Vimor Foundation, and director of education at QM, Dr Jelena Trkulja.
Themes discussed during the symposium included the history of the abaya and traditional Qatari clothing, building a sustainable global brand, and the textile heritage of Qatar and India.
The fashion display and symposium is part of the Qatar-India 2019 Year of Culture. QM’s Year of Culture programme includes various events that bring to light key issues in today’s world, such as climate change and sustainability – adding more enriching and thought-provoking experiences to the community at large.
أطلق متحف الفن الإسلامي أمس معرضه الجديد “مجموعة مختارة من الأزياء الهندية المعاصرة” والذي تتواصل فعالياته على مدار ثلاثة أيام ويسلط الضوء على مفهوم الاستدامة في عام الأزياء الهندية وذلك بالتعاون مع حركة “كارفان إيرث” الدولية.
وتشرف المعرض في أول أيامه باستقبال سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني ، رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، حيث اطلعت سعادتها على المعروضات من الأزياء والمنسوجات الهندية المعاصرة والتي تعزز مفهوم الاستدامة مع الدمج بين التراث والحرف التقليدية.
وعلى هامش فعاليات المعرض ، استضاف متحف الفن الإسلامي ندوة عامة ترأستها باندانا تواري، الناشطة في مجال الاستدامة والمحرر السابق في مجلة “فوغ” الهندية، وشارك في الحديث خلال الندوة كل من تانيا الماجد، قيم متاحف مساعد في متحف قطر الوطني، وبافيترا مودايا، رئيس “مؤسسة فيمور”، والدكتورة يلينا تركوليا، مديرة إدارة التعليم في متاحف قطر.
