“Qatar Today” .. a new gallery at the National Museum of Qatar

In celebration of Qatar National Day, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM), has unveiled the final gallery of the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ).
Titled ‘Qatar Today’, the final exhibit of the NMoQ’s permanent gallery route was unveiled in the presence of H E Sheikh Hassan bin Mohamed Al Thani and Sheikha Amna bint Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani, Director of the NMoQ.
This striking immersive digital installation illustrates Qatar in the contemporary age. Under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar overcame the blockade imposed on it on the June 5, 2017 and embarked on a new journey which has seen the country become stronger and more self-sufficient.
The gallery underlines the resilience, unity, accomplishments and dreams of those living in Qatar.
The gallery consists of a striking digital installation on reflecting mirror screens, made up of 14 synchronized exhibits, playing a 12-minute video loop.
‘Qatar Today’ was created with the help of artists, filmmakers, technicians, and producers from nearly a dozen countries. Over 50 hours of archive footage were sourced from Al Jazeera, Qatar TV, Al Rayyan TV, and beIN among others.
The gallery is one of the most striking and complex galleries at the NMoQ. Its opening marks the start of the second phase of the NMoQ opening and further cements the museum’s position as a world-class institution presenting an unparalleled immersive experience for culture enthusiasts.
دشّن متحف قطر الوطني صالة العرض الأخيرة بالمتحف، بحضور سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيسة مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، والشيخ حسن بن محمد آل ثاني، والشيخة آمنة بنت عبدالعزيز بن جاسم آل ثاني، مديرة متحف قطر الوطني. وجاء هذا التدشين، احتفالاً باليوم الوطني للدولة 2019.
تلقي صالة العرض التي تحمل اسم «قطر اليوم» الضوء على أبرز الإنجازات التي تحققت في عهد صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى. كما تبرز عدداً من أهم اللحظات في تاريخ قطر الحديث، أهمها كيف تغلبت قطر على الحصار الذي فُرض عليها منذ الخامس من يونيو 2017، وكيف انطلقت دولة قطر في رحلة جديدة أصبحت فيها أكثر قوة واكتفاء ذاتياً. وتمثل هذه القاعة أرشيفاً حياً يؤكد على المرونة والوحدة اللتين يتميز بهما كل من يعيش على أرض قطر، فضلا على إنجازاتهم وأحلامهم.
وتضم صالة العرض تحفة تركيبية رقمية مذهلة باستخدام مشاهد تُبث على مرايا عاكسة، وهي مصنوعة من 14 وسيلة عرض رقمي متوازية، كل منها يعرض محتوى وثائقي مدته 12 دقيقة دون توقف. وساهم في صنع محتوى صالة العرض هذه، فنانون وصنّاع أفلام وتقنيون ومنتجون ينتمون لما يقرب من اثنتي عشرة دولة. كما تعرض الصالة أكثر من 50 ساعة من التسجيلات الأرشيفية المأخوذة من قناة الجزيرة وتلفزيون قطر وتلفزيون الريان وbeIN وغيرها من الوسائل الإعلامية.
وتُعد صالة العرض الأخيرة هذه من أكثر صالات المتحف إبهاراً وتعقيداً. ويأتي تدشينها إيذاناً بافتتاح المرحلة الثانية من متحف قطر الوطني، معززة بذلك مكانة المتحف كصرح عالمي يوفر بين أروقته تجربة تفاعلية لا مثيل لها لمحبي الفنون والثقافة.
