Dr. Al-Khal: 90% of cases do not show symptoms

Included in the series of lectures “Thinking about the Corona crisis and its dimensions”, held by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, which is broadcast on its social media platforms, in which a number of experts and academics give scientific lectures on the Corona pandemic and its implications at various social, political and economic level. On Sunday, 10 May 2020, Dr. AbdulLatif Al-Khal delivered the fifth lecture entitled “The Coved-19 pandemic in Qatar: reality and the strategy of confrontation and containment”.

According to Abdullatif Al-Khal, as of the 60th day of the virus’s emergence in Qatar, there have been more than 20,000 infections, with an average of 1,000 to 1,200 infections per day, making the epidemic in the country at its peak. He pointed out that 90% of cases do not show symptoms or show mild symptoms. As part of the measures adopted in Qatar to contain the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Public Health contains and isolates the infected people from the community because they may spread the virus among their contacts through contact scans and random examination using various screening techniques, including CPR.

In conclusion, Abdullatif Al-Khal recommended that the commitment to social distancing measures should be increased, and that preventive measures such as hand washing, non-touching of surfaces and wearing medical masks should be increased. The lecturer also answered questions posed by followers on social media platforms, where the lecture received extensive interaction, various questions and rich interventions.

ضِمن سلسلة محاضرات “التفكير في أزمة كورونا وأبعادها”، التي يعقدها المركز العربي للأبحاث ودراسة السياسات، وتُبثّ عبر منصاته على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، ويقدّم فيها عدد من الخبراء والأكاديميين محاضرات علمية حول جائحة كورونا وتداعياتها على مختلف المستويات الاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية، قدّم الدكتور عبد اللطيف الخال، يوم الأحد 10 أيار/ مايو 2020، المحاضرة الخامسَة بعنوان “جائحة كوفيد-19 في قطر: الواقع واستراتيجية المواجهة والاحتواء”.

حسب عبد اللطيف الخال، إلى غاية اليوم الستين من ظهور الفيروس في قطر، تعدّت الإصابات الـ 20 ألف إصابة؛ بمعدّل وصل بين 1000 إلى 1200 إصابة يوميَة، الأمر الذّي يجعل الوباء في الدولة في مرحلة الذروة. وأشار إلى ان 90٪ من حالات الإصابة لا تظهر عليها أعراض الإصابة او تظهر عليها اعراض خفيفة. وضمن الإجراءات المتبعة في دولة قطر لاحتواء انتشار الفيروس تقوم وزارة الصحة العامة باحتواء المصابين وعزلهم عن المجتمع لأنهم قد ينشرون الفيروس بين المخالطين فيهم وذلك من خلال فحص المخالطين والفحص العشوائي باستعمال تقنيات الفحص المتنوعة من بينها تقنية “السي بي أر”.

وفي الختام أوصى عبد اللطيف الخال بضرورة رفع الالتزام بإجراءات التباعد الاجتماعي، والثبات على التدابير الوقائية كغسل اليدين وعدم لمس الأسطح وارتداء الأقنعة الطبية. كمَا أجاب المحاضر عن الأسئلة التي طرحها المتابعون عبر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي، حيث لقيت المحاضرة تفاعلًا واسعًا وأسئلةً متنوعة ومداخلات ثرية.
