Qatar Airways touches down in Langkawi
القطرية تدشّن رحلاتها إلى «لنكاوي»
The first Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Langkawi, Malaysia touched down at Langkawi International Airport on Tuesday.
To celebrate the launch of the popular new destination, an extra special flight was operated from Doha to Langkawi on yesterday, in which a number of VIPs, international media and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker were on board.
The special flight was greeted by a VIP celebratory ceremony at Langkawi International Airport which was attended by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Malaysia, Fahad Mohammed Kafoud; Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia in Qatar, Mohamad Shahir Sabarudin; Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad, Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh; Chief Executive Officer, Langkawi Development Authority Dr. Hezri Adnan; and Qatar Airways Senior Vice President Asia Pacific, Marwan Koleilat, as well as senior airport officials.
Al Baker said: “I am thrilled to have been on today’s special flight to Langkawi and to be here celebrating our arrival to this stunning archipelago. Langkawi marks the eighth new destination added to Qatar Airways’ rapidly expanding network in 2019. With its forested hills, stunning white-sand beaches and glimmering turquoise waters, Langkawi is fast becoming one of South East Asia’s most highly sought-after destinations and the reason why we knew we had to launch our flights here. Beginning with a four-times-weekly service that will grow to five-times-weekly from October 27, we look forward to welcoming business and leisure travellers alike on board so that they may experience the ‘Jewel of Kedah’.” Salleh said: “I would like to welcome Qatar Airways to Langkawi International Airport, the first middle eastern airline to fly to this beautiful island. The inclusion of a new international airline to Langkawi will definitely spur our Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign by increasing the number of tourists into Langkawi.”
The new service to Langkawi will be operated by the airline’s state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring 22 seats in Business class and 232 seats in Economy class, with spacious cabins and specially-designed interiors. As well as enjoying the award-winning in-flight service on board, passengers travelling to Langkawi will also have access to Oryx One, Qatar Airways’ in-flight entertainment system, offering the latest blockbuster movies, TV box sets, music, games and much more.
حطّت الرحلة الافتتاحية للخطوط الجوية القطرية من الدوحة إلى لنكاوي في مطار لنكاوي الدولي بماليزيا يوم الثلاثاء 15 أكتوبر 2019. واحتفالاً بهذه المناسبة، سيّرت الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر رحلة إضافية من الدوحة إلى لنكاوي أمس الأربعاء، وكان على متنها عدد من كبار الشخصيات والممثلين عن وسائل الإعلام المحلية والعالمية، وسعادة السيد أكبر الباكر الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، وآخرون.
وكان في استقبال الرحلة الافتتاحية لدى وصولها مطار لنكاوي الدولي، كل من سعادة السيد فهد محمد كافود السفير القطري لدى ماليزيا، وسعادة السيد محمد شاهر سبردين القائم بالأعمال في سفارة ماليزيا بالدوحة، والسيد محمد شكري محمد صالح الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات في الشركة الماليزية القابضة للمطارات، والدكتور حزري عدنان الرئيس التنفيذي لهيئة لنكاوي للتطوير، والسيد مروان قليلات نائب أول الرئيس التنفيذي لمنطقة آسيا والمحيط الهادي في الخطوط الجوية القطرية.
4 رحلات أسبوعياً
وقال الباكر: «يسعدني أن أكون هنا للاحتفال بتدشين رحلاتنا إلى هذا الأرخبيل الرائع الذي أصبح ثامن المحطات التي تنضم إلى شبكة وجهاتنا العالمية في عام 2019. ومع تلالها الخضراء وشواطئها ذات الرمال البيضاء ومياهها النقية، تكتسب لنكاوي شهرة كبيرة يوماً بعد يوم لتصبح إحدى أكثر الوجهات التي تستقطب الزوار من شتى أنحاء العالم؛ مما أكد لنا ضرورة تدشين رحلاتنا إليها. وسوف نسيّر الآن 4 رحلات أسبوعياً إلى هذه الوجهة الجميلة، ثم سيزداد عدد الرحلات إلى 5 ابتداء من 27 أكتوبر 2019. ونتطلع إلى الترحيب بالزوّار، سواء بغرض السياحة أم العمل على متن رحلاتنا لاكتشاف جوهرة كيدا». وقال الداتو محمد شكري محمد صالح، الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات في الشركة الماليزية القابضة للمطارات: «أود الترحيب بالخطوط الجوية القطرية في مطار لنكاوي الدولي، حيث أصبحت «القطرية» أول شركة طيران شرق أوسطية تحلّق إلى جزيرتنا الجميلة. ومن شأن الرحلات الجديدة تحفيز برنامج «زوروا ماليزيا 2020» ودعمه، من خلال استقطاب مزيد من الزوّار إلى لنكاوي».
وسوف تشغّل الخطوط الجوية القطرية طائرة من طراز «بوينج 787 دريملاينر» إلى لنكاوي، حيث تضم هذه الطائرة 22 مقعداً على درجة رجال الأعمال، و232 مقعداً على الدرجة السياحية.
