European Jazz Festival kicks off in Katara on November 4th
انطلاق مهرجان الجاز الأوروبي في «كتارا» 4 نوفمبر
Exponents of Italian jazz, Paolo Damiani ListeNew Trio will be performing at the week-long sixth Katara European Jazz Festival, the Italian Embassy has announced.
The trio will play a unique musical repertoire on November 5, 7.45pm at Katara Esplanade as the Italian Embassy’s participation in this year’s edition of the festival scheduled from November 4 to 10. The annual festival has been one of the most anticipated musical events in Doha, thanks to the outstanding jazz performers coming from all over Europe.
Speaking on Italy’s participation at this year’s festival, Pasquale Salzano, Ambassador of Italy to Qatar, said: “We are pleased to have brought from Italy this year the “Paolo Damiani ListeNew Trio”, made up of three champions of the Italian jazz traditions, Maestro Paolo Damiani (double bass performer), Daniele Tittarelli (saxophonist) and Ludovica Manzo (singer).”
Salzano said the trio comprises “extraordinary soloists who have often played in different ensemble, now together in this new format with a unique repertoire based on published and unpublished compositions by the musicians.”
The music of the Trio is rooted in the melodic and ethnic musical tradition of Southern Italy and classical Italian opera. The pieces allow for imagination and creativity. They are the results of meticulous research based on inquisitive listening, empathy, ironic enquiring and enjoyment.
“The repertoire proposed by Damiani, Tittarelli and Manzo is very special. It is a blend of jazz and Italian music traditions which results in an innovative contamination of sounds. The ListeNew Trio is able to interpret at best both the jazz and the Italian cultures, producing a mix of different styles which perfectly matches Katara’s multicultural environment. You are all invited to come enjoy the engaging performance of the “Paolo Damiani ListeNew Trio,” said Salzano.
Maestro Damiani is an internationally-acclaimed composer who has been the Director of the Jazz Department at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia since 2002. He is the first and only foreigner to be appointed Director of the French National Jazz Orchestra from 1999 to 2002. A multi-awarded musician, Maestro Damiani has performed worldwide together with other famous musicians.
Tittarelli started studying sax at the age of nine and he graduated at Conservatory of Latina in classic saxophone. He is distinguished by the originality of sound and sensibility. He recorded five albums as leader and more than forty as sideman and played in the most important European jazz festivals.
Manzo is an Italian vocalist and composer who is active in a wide range of music. Her work includes songwriting, modern jazz and free improvisation. Her singing is influenced by many sources, including the ethnic and the contemporary vocal expressions. She graduated with honours in Jazz Music at Conservatorio di Musica.
في هذا السياق، أكد سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي (كتارا)، أن مهرجان الجاز الأوروبي الذي تحتضن «كتارا» نسخته السادسة، أصبح مركزاً للإشعاع الموسيقي، يترسّخ حضوره في المشهد الثقافي والفني دورة بعد أخرى، بما يحمله هذا الحدث الفني الكبير من رقيّ وتنوّع وإبهار. مشيراً إلى أن مهرجان الجاز الأوروبي الذي يشارك فيه نخبة من أمهر العازفين والموسيقيين في أوروبا والعالم.
وتوجّه سعادة مدير عام «كتارا» بالشكر الجزيل إلى جميع السفراء الكرام على تعاونهم المثمر مع المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي (كتارا) لإقامة هذا المهرجان الذي يجسّد الشراكة الثقافية المتنامية بين دولة قطر ودول القارة الأوروبية. مؤكداً أن مهرجان الجاز الأوروبي يسهم في تفعيل التواصل الثقافي وتعزيز العبور المعرفي، ويفتح نوافذ الفنون والإبداع والتألق، مجسّداً لوحة فنية تتشكل منها ألوان الثقافة الأوروبية بأطيافها العريقة كافة.
من جانبهم، أعرب سفراء الدول الأوروبية خلال الكلمات التي تناوبوا على إلقائها في المؤتمر الصحافي عن سعادتهم باحتضان «كتارا» مهرجان الجاز الأوروبي للعام السادس على التوالي، ووصفوا المهرجان بأنه يجسّد رسالة صداقة وسلام بين الشعوب. مشيدين بدور المهرجان وأهميته في التواصل الإنساني بين البلدان المختلفة ونشر قيم الخير والتسامح والتعاون، مثمّنين دور «كتارا» في احتضانها الفنون ورعايتها الإبداع بأشكاله المختلفة، ومؤكدين أن المهرجان يوفّر فرصة للتبادل الموسيقي، ويمثّل علامة فارقة للتفاهم والحوار بين الدول والشعوب.
يُشار إلى أن الواجهة البحرية لـ «كتارا» (البوابتان 20 و21) ستحتضن فعاليات النسخة السادسة لمهرجان كتارا الأوروبي للجاز، وستستضيف يومياً من فرقتين إلى ثلاث فرق موسيقية، تقدّم إيقاعاتها ومعزوفاتها ضمن فترتين: الأولى بين الساعة 6:30-7:30 مساء، والثانية في الفترة ما بين 7:45-8:45 مساء.
