Doha: The fishing port authority of Al-Wakrah installed a security gate on the pier to prevent hikers from entering the terminal and allow only sailors, boat owners and ships.
The views of the fishermen varied between agreeing and opposing to the move. Ahmed Salem Al-Hamli, spokesman for Al-Wakra fishermen, expressed his categorical rejection of this step, which prevents families from hiking inside the site, which is an important tourist attraction since its opening decades ago.
Stressing that the closure does not serve the fishermen in any way, which requires the responsible authority to remove those gates and not to use them, even if they are on a trial basis.
He pointed out that the demands of some to prevent hikers from entering Al-Wakrah terminal on the pretext that they pollute the terminal with waste or the presence of thefts are not logical, especially since the amount of waste generated by visitors is not at the same level caused by some sailors, he stressed that the solution is to install security cameras along the port and to monitor violators who leave their waste in their places.

الدوحة: قامت الجهةُ المسؤولةُ عن ميناء الصيد بالوكرة بتركيب بوابة أمنية على رصيف الميناء في توجّه لمنع دخول المتنزهين والسماح فقط للبحارة وأصحاب المراكب والسفن بالدخول إلى الفرضة، وتباينت آراء الصيادين بين موافق ومعارض للخطوة، حيث عبّر أحمد سالم الهاملي المتحدث باسم صيادي الوكرة عن رفضه القاطع لهذه الخطوة التي تمنع الأسر من التنزه داخل الفرضة التي تعد مزارًا سياحيًا مهمًا منذ افتتاحها قبل عشرات السنين، مؤكدًا أن الإغلاق لا يخدم الصيادين بأي شكل من الأشكال ما يستدعي من الجهة المسؤولة إزالة تلك البوابات وعدم استخدامها حتى لو كانت على سبيل التجربة.
وأشار إلى أن مطالب البعض بمنع دخول المتنزهين إلى فرضة الوكرة بحجة تسببهم في تلويث الفرضة بالمخلفات أو وجود سرقات ليس منطقيًا، خاصة أن كمية المخلفات الناتجة من الزوّار ليست بالمستوى الذي يتسبّب به بعض البحارة، مؤكدًا أن الحل يتطلب فقط تركيب كاميرات أمنية على طول الميناء ورصد المخالفين ممن يتركون المُخلّفات في أماكنهم.
