MME ties up with Carrefour Qatar to launch “No Plastic Tuesdays”
«البلدية» و«كارفور» تطلقان حملة «لا للأكياس البلاستيكية»
Doha: To mark the occasion of “World Clean-up Day”, Carrefour in Qatar and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment today launched a new campaign to curb the use of single-use plastic bags.
The event included distribution of awareness brochures and reusable bags to the public. As per the campaign, on the third Tuesday of each month starting from today, Carrefour will observe “No Plastic Tuesdays” by eliminating single-use plastic bags from cash counters and offering customers free eco-bags. Moreover, single-use plastic bags will be replaced with paper alternatives in the fruits and vegetables section.
Nawf Omar Bakhamis, Head of Awareness at the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, stressed the importance of enhancing environmental education among all segments of society and engaging them in more eco causes. She also said that the Ministry’s participation in today’s event reflects its support to the efforts and environmental initiatives of the civil society organizations adding that environmental well-being is a combined responsibility of all ministries, organizations, companies and individuals.
She added that this event comes in cooperation with Carrefour Qatar and the participation of inspectors from the Municipality of Al Rayyan with the purpose of familiarising the public with the best ways to use eco-friendly bags and the benefits behind that, and the need to limit the use of single-use plastic bags
Laurent Hausknecht, Country Manager of Carrefour in Qatar commented on the initiative: “We encourage all our customers to visit our stores on the third Tuesday of each month to collect their complimentary eco-bags, but most importantly, we ask that they remember to bring it along during every trip so that we’re one step closer to ensuring a single-use plastic free Qatar.”
أطلقت وزارة البلدية والبيئة و«كارفور» قطر أمس الثلاثاء حملة «لا للأكياس البلاستيكية»؛ بهدف توعية الجمهور بضرورة الحد من استخدام الأكياس البلاستيكية المستخدمة لمرة واحدة، وذلك بمناسبة يوم النظافة العالمي.
وتضمنت الفعالية توزيع مطبوعات توعوية وأكياس صديقة للبيئة على الجمهور، وأعلن كارفور أنه ابتداءً من أمس سوف يقوم بتعليق استخدام جميع الأكياس البلاستيكية كل يوم ثلاثاء من الأسبوع الثالث من كل شهر، حيث سوف يتم إزالة جميع الأكياس البلاستيكية المستخدمة لمرة واحدة من صناديق الدفع، واستبدالها بأكياس صديقة للبيئة قابلة لإعادة الاستخدام وتقديمها مجاناً للعملاء. كما سيتم استبدال جميع الأكياس البلاستيكية المستخدمة لمرة واحدة الموجودة في قسم الخضار والفواكه بأكياس ورقية صديقة للبيئة، فضلاً عن قيام «كارفور» بمكافأة أعضاء برنامج الولاء «ماي كلوب» عند كل عملية شراء.
من جانبها نوَّهت السيدة نوف عمر باخميس -رئيس قسم التوعية بإدارة العلاقات العامة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة- بأهمية تعزيز التوعية والتثقيف البيئي لدى جميع شرائح المجتمع، وتعريفهم بالجانب التوعوي البيئي، مشيرة إلى أن مشاركة الوزارة في هذه الفعالية بمناسبة يوم النظافة العالمي تأتي في إطار حرصها على دعم وتشجيع جهود ومبادرات مؤسسات المجتمع المدني في مجال البيئة والنظافة، التي تقع مسؤولية الحفاظ عليها على عاتق الجميع من وزارات ومؤسسات وشركات وأفراد.
وقال لورنت هاوسكنشت مُدير «كارفور» في قطر: «تعد الاستدامة أحد أهم ركائز استراتيجيتنا من أجل الحفاظ على بيئةٍ نظيفةٍ، وذلك تماشياً مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030. وبعد النجاح الملموس الذي حققته مبادرتنا السابقة (اليوم العالمي للحد من استخدام الأكياس البلاستيكية)، واصلنا جهودنا نحو تحقيق التنمية المستدامة بإطلاق حملة (لا للأكياس البلاستيكية) الثلاثاء. ونحن ندعو جميع عملائنا إلى زيارة متاجرنا كل يوم ثلاثاء من الأسبوع الثالث من كل شهر واختيار أكياس صديقة للبيئة مجاناً».
وأضافت أن تنظيم هذه الفعالية يأتي بالتعاون مع كارفور قطر وبمشاركة مفتشين من بلدية الريان؛ بهدف تعريف الجمهور بالطرق المثلى لاستخدام الأكياس الصديقة للبيئة وفوائدها للجميع، وضرورة التوقف عن استخدام الأكياس البلاستيكية.
