Public bus ridership rises by 40% in four years

Public bus ridership has risen by 40 percent from 2015 to the end of 2018. This is ascribed to significant enhancement works carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to boost the performance efficiency of the public bus service and increase ridership, in coordination with Mowasalat “Karwa”. The enhancement works have taken the form of introducing new bus routes to cover new destinations and improving and optimising existing ones. MOTC has implemented five new Airport Bus express services, linking Al Khor, The Pearl-Qatar, West Bay, Al Matar Al Qadeem and the Industrial Area to Hamad International Airport, said a statement, These enhancements have proven so popular that ridership to and from the HIA has increased by nearly 90 percent over the last year and exceeded one million passengers, compared to 2017. MOTC has also developed and enhanced existing bus routes. This has included the buses covering the areas of the West Bay, The Pearl-Qatar and Lagoona Mall. Improvements have also included more frequent timetables, improvements to Smartcard purchase and top-up options, and increased marketing and information about bus services, including the development and launch of the Karwa Bus mobile application. Additionally, a network of Doha Metro “Metrolink” feeder bus routes have been established to support Metro operations. Some 24 new routes have been introduced since April 2019, transporting people to and from Red Line stations in the West Bay area to Al Wakra. Twenty five more routes will be launched when the other two Doha Metro lines enter service; 10 routes for the Green Line and 15 for the Gold Line. The Metroexpress service has been also launched for metro users in the West Bay area as part of efforts to providing integrated transportation solutions. Metroexpress is a free trial ride-sharing service, currently covering the West Bay QIC and DECC station areas. Meanwhile, the infrastructure facilities that support public bus operations are being developed and improved in association with the bodies concerned. Development works include the establishment of four new locations for buses in Al Qassar, Al Wakrah, Lusail City and Education City, opening up 5 new bus stops in the Al Sudan area, Lusail City, Al Wakrah, the Industrial Area, Msheireb and Gharaffa and the establishment of four new bus depots that will have bus stops, bus care centres and housing and recreational facilities for the operating company’s staff. Moreover, some 627 electric buses and their associated charging equipment will be imported and put in operation during 2020. By so doing, Qatar will become the first country in the region to have a full fleet of electric buses for public transit

أعلنت وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات أن خدمة حافلات النقل العام حققت نموا مضطرداً في أعداد الركاب بنسبة 40 بالمئة خلال الفترة من العام 2015 إلى نهاية العام 2018. وأرجعت الوزارة ذلك إلى أعمال التحسين التي نفذتها لرفع كفاءة أداء واستخدام الحافلات العامة، وذلك بالتنسيق والتعاون مع شركة مواصلات “كروة” مشغل حافلات النقل العام في دولة قطر. وأفادت بأن أعمال التحسينات شملت اعتماد مسارات جديدة للحافلات لتلبية الطلب على وجهات جديدة بناء على آراء ومقترحات الركاب، وتوفير خمس خطوط سريعة لحافلات النقل العام تربط مطار حمد الدولي بمدينة الخور، وجزيرة (اللؤلؤة قطر)، ومنطقة والخليج الغربي، ومنطقة المطار القديم، والمناطق الصناعية، لخدمة المسافرين عبر المطار، وساهمت هذه التحسينات خلال العام 2018 بنقل أكثر من مليون راكب من وإلى المطار وبزيادة نسبتها 90 بالمائة مقارنة مع العام السابق 2017. كما طورت الوزارة وحسنت شبكة مسارات الحافلات الحالية لتشمل تحسينات للحافلات المُسيرة إلى منطقة الخليج الغربي، وجزيرة (اللؤلؤة قطر)، والمجمع التجاري (لاجونا مول)، فضلاً عن وضع جداول زمنية للرحلات على النحو الأمثل، والقيام باعتماد البطاقات الذكية في عمليات الشراء وإعادة التعبئة، وتطوير وإصدار تطبيق الجوال لحافلات كروة. إضافة إلى ذلك، تم تنفيذ شبكة الحافلات المغذية لمترو الدوحة (مترولينك) بهدف دعم عمليات المترو، وجرى تشغيل 24 مساراً جديداَ منذ أبريل 2019 لنقل الركاب من وإلى محطات الخط الأحمر من منطقة الخليج الغربي إلى مدينة الوكرة، كما سيتم إطلاق 25 مساراً إضافياً أخرى عند تشغيل خطوط مترو الدوحة (الأخضر) بمعدل 10 مسارات، و(الذهبي) بمعدل 15 مساراً، إلى جانب إطلاق خدمة (مترو اكسبرس) التجريبية لمستخدمي المترو في منطقة الخليج الغربي. وتهدف كل تلك الجهود لتقديم حلول نقل متكاملة لركاب مترو الدوحة، حيث تعد هذه الخدمات مجانية خلال الوقت الحالي ريثما يتم التشغيل الفعلي للمرحلة الأولى لمترو الدوحة. وأضافت الوزارة أنه يجري حالياً تطوير مرافق البنية التحتية الداعمة لحافلات النقل العام، بالتعاون مع الجهات المعنية، ويشمل هذا التطوير إنشاء أربعة مواقع جديدة لمرافق المواقف والركوب في مناطق القصار والوكرة ومدينة لوسيل والمدينة التعليمية، بالإضافة إلى إنشاء خمس محطات للحافلات في منطقة السودان ومدينة لوسيل ومدينة الوكرة والمنطقة الصناعية ومشيرب والغرافة، وكذلك إنشاء أربعة مستودعات للحافلات تتضمن مرافق سكنية وترفيهية لموظفي الشركة المشغلة، ومواقف للحافلات ومراكز للصيانة. علاوة على ذلك، سيتم استيراد ما يقارب من 627 حافلة كهربائية بالإضافة إلى معدات الشحن الكهربائي المتعلقة بها، وسيتم تشغيلها خلال العام المقبل 2020، وبذلك ستكون قطر أول دولة في المنطقة تمتلك أسطولاً كاملاً من الحافلات الكهربائية خاص بخدمة شبكة النقل العام. وشددت الوزارة على أن تلك الخطوات تأتي في إطار حرصها على استخدام وسائل نقل عام مستدامة وصديقة للبيئة، وصولا إلى تحقيق الهدف الرئيسي بأن تصبح جميع الحافلات العامة في قطر كهربائية بحلول عام 2030.
