‘Light of Hope’ deals with the journey of life, panel discussion finds

The Ministry of Culture and Sports on Thursday hosted a panel discussion organized by Qatari Authors Forum to discuss the children’s book, The Light of Hope published by Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) press, written by celebrated children’s author, Basma El Khatib.
The Light of Hope was named winner in the 2019 International Book Awards in the category of Children’s Mind/Body/Spirit.
The book was originally published in Arabic by HBKU Press under the title Kandil Alma in 2018.
The Light of Hope follows the story of Alma, a young girl on her way home in a dark forest.
Alma faces many obstacles on the way, symbolizing life’s difficulties, but overcomes them through strength, perseverance, and the help of friends.
El Khatib stressed during the session the importance of the message delivered by the book to children in general and to young girls in particular, explaining that they will face many difficulties in their lives, but they have to overcome these difficulties, and to know that they are able to do so.
The author appreciated the role of HBKU Press in translating the book into English, which enabled the book to reach more readers and to a wider audience.
استضافت وزارة الثقافة والرياضة اليوم، جلسة نقاشية نظمها الملتقى القطري للمؤلفين لمناقشة كتاب الأطفال “قنديل ألمى”الصادر عن دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر، للكاتبة بسمة الخطيب.
وكان هذا الكتاب المترجم إلى الانجليزية بعنوان “The Light of Hope ” قد نال مؤخرا جائزة الأطفال جائزة الكتاب العالمي لعام 2019 عن فئة “عقل، بدن، روح الطفل” حسب بيان لدار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر والتي نشرت النسخة الأصلية منه بالعربية تحت عنوان “قنديل ألمى” في أواخر عام 2018.
ويحكي الكتاب قصة الفتاة الصغيرة “ألمى” وهي في طريق عودتها للمنزل عبر غابة مظلمة فتواجه في طريقها العديد من العقبات التي ترمز لمصاعب الحياة، لكنها تتخطاها بالقوة والمثابرة ومساعدة الأصدقاء.
وأكدت الكاتبة بسمة الخطيب خلال الجلسة التي أدارها الإعلامي صالح غريب على أهمية رسالة الكتاب للأطفال عامة وللفتيات الصغيرات خاصة، موضحة أنهن سيواجهن مصاعب عديدة في حياتهن، ولكن عليهن أن يتصدين لها، وأن يعلمن أنهن قادرات على ذلك”.
وأضافت أنها استحضرت في الكتاب فكرة الرحلة من أدب الأطفال. وأرادت أن توضح للأطفال ضرورة تخطي العقبات، من خلال رحلة هدفها التعليم والإلهام في الوقت ذاته”.
وثمنت الكاتبة دور دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر في ترجمة الكتاب إلى الإنجليزية، الأمر الذي أتاح له الوصول إلى مزيد من القراء وإلى قطاع أكبر من الجمهور على مستوى العالم .
