Doha: As Doha Metro Red Line South is set to start operations today, it will revolutionise the way people move around Doha and its suburbs. Traveling with Doha metro will not only be time-saving but will also be comfortable, entertaining and convenient.

The state-of-the-art Doha Metro will cut over 50 percent of travel time and will offer free Wi-Fi to the commuters, allowing them to check e-mails and browse the internet on the go.

From today, 13 stations on the Red Line will be open, from Al Wakra in the south to Al Qassar in the north, the Ministry of Transport and Communications had announced on Monday.

People can travel on Doha Metro with different kinds of travel cards. Standard Travel Cards can be purchased from self service Travel Card Vending Machines (TVMs) at all Doha Metro stations and from licenced retailers such as Al Meera, Lulu, and Carrefour. Limited Use Travel Cards can also be purchased from TVMs. A single ride starts from QR2 while full day travel will cost QR6.

Doha Metro is one of the fastest driverless trains in the world and will be the fastest in the region, which will able to reach 100km per hour. The trains will deliver a safe, reliable and fast commuter service for passengers. There is an integrated strategy in place for facilitating commuters to get to and from the stations and providing end to end journeys.

Mowasalat has announced special deals in their Karwa taxis and also free feeder buses for metro commuters. To solve the last mile connectivity, it will be running metrolink feeder buses from stations. “Take the first and last mile connect to Doha Metro riding free in comfort and luxury of metrolink feeder buses,” Mowasalat said yesterday in a tweet.

“Karwa taxi passengers travelling to and from any metro station can book taxi through Karwa App using promo code RAIL to avail flat QR8 promotional fare for a journey within 3km,” it added. There will be safe pedestrians walk-ways within 400 metre of every stations and bike-ways with in two kilometre of each Doha metro stations.

Commuters will be able to access travel information like never before with integrated journey planner apps that will help commuters in planning their travel. There will also be real time passenger information systems to ensure that commuters are always updated.
