MIA and NMoQ welcome Princess Dana Firas

Princess Dana Firas, Unesco Global Ambassador and President of Petra National Trust, visited the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) and Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), for a tour of the museums’ facilities and immersive galleries.
During her visit at the National Museum of Qatar, Princess Dana was welcomed by the Director of the National Museum of Qatar, Sheikha Amna Al Thani, who introduced her to the museum’s collection.
Princess Dana toured different galleries of the museum that display various stages of the geological formation of the Qatar Peninsula and its natural surroundings, petroglyphs and monuments in the archaeological sites, and the lives of the people of Qatar on land and coasts, as well as the digital gallery.
Meanwhile at the Museum of Islamic Art, Princess Dana was briefed by the museum’s Director Dr Julia Gonnella on ‘Syria Matters’ expo, and toured the various sections of the museum and its various wings. She toured the museum’s collection which embraces masterpieces of Islamic art, including metal, wooden, porcelain, jewellery, textiles and glass.
She also saw artefacts collected from three continents dating back to 14 centuries. Princess Dana received a brief about the MIA, its establishment phases, its role in spreading science and culture and encouraging creativity and communication with the cultures and arts of the world.

قامت الأميرة دانا فراس، سفيرة “اليونسكو” للنوايا الحسنة ورئيسة الجمعية الوطنية للحفاظ على البتراء، بجولة اليوم في متحف قطر الوطني ومتحف الفن الإسلامي، حيث تعرفت خلالها على مرافق المتحفين ومعارضهما الفنية.
وكان في استقبال الأميرة في جولتها بمتحف قطر الوطني سعادة الشيخة آمنة بنت عبدالعزيز آل ثاني، مديرة متحف قطر الوطني، حيث قدمت لها شروحات عن مقتنيات المتحف.
كما تم الاطلاع خلال الجولة، على مختلف صالات العرض التي تشمل بدايات التطور الجيولوجي لشبه جزيرة قطر، والبيئات الطبيعية فيها، والآثار والنقوش الصخرية في المواقع الأثرية، وعن حياة أهل قطر في البر والسواحل، والمعرض الرقمي.
أما في متحف الفن الإسلامي، فقدمت الدكتورة جوليا جونيلا، مديرة المتحف شروحات للأميرة دانا فراس عن معرض /سوريا سلاما/ كما تجولت في أقسام المتحف وأجنحته المختلفة، واطَّلعت على مقتنياته من الآثار والتحف الإسلامية التي تضم نفائس نادرة من التراث، من بينها كتب ومخطوطات وقطع نقدية مصنوعة من الفضة والنحاس والبرونز، بالإضافة إلى مصنوعات من الزجاج والعاج والأنسجة والخشب والأحجار الكريمة، ومقتنيات فنية تم جمعها من ثلاث قارات، وتعود لأربعة عشر قرنا مضت.
كما استمعت إلى شرح عن متحف الفن الإسلامي ومراحل إنشائه، ودوره في نشر العلم والثقافة، والتشجيع على الإبداع والتواصل مع ثقافات العالم وفنونه.
