Doha Bank does its part to preserve the beaches
بنك الدوحة ينفّذ حملته السنوية «تنظيف الشاطئ»
Marking World Health Day and delivering on its commitment to promote environmental, social and economic sustainability, Doha Bank hosted its annual “Beach Clean-up” event at Al Wakrah Family Beach, under the theme Save the Beaches for the Future, on Saturday.
The event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and Al Wakrah Municipality.
Held as part of Doha Bank’s Green Banking initiatives, the “Beach Clean-up” was aimed at raising awareness among its employees and stakeholders as well as the Doha community about the importance of protecting the environment and biodiversity, and minimising ecological footprint.
Reaffirming their commitment to preserving nature, the bank’s senior management executives, staff members, and customers actively picked up litter from the trash-strewn beach.
Doha Bank Group chief executive Dr R Seetharaman said: “Sustainability has remained at the core of Doha Bank’s operations and products and services, and we have been actively partnering with the authorities and leading organisations in Qatar to promote sustainable practices through educating and working with our different stakeholders and the Doha community at large.
“With our Beach Clean-up activity on World Health Day, we hope we have successfully driven the message home that concerted and deliberate efforts toward reducing waste, preventing pollution and preserving biodiversity are critical to keeping the environment healthy, clean and safe.
“The tremendous support we received from Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Al Wakrah Municipality has been key to the success of the Beach Clean-up event, and we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to them.”
Braik Ali HS al-Marri, Doha Bank’s acting chief of retail, said: “As a responsible organisation, Doha Bank has placed great emphasis on fostering a culture of sustainability to contribute to the Environmental Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.
“Our customers have enthusiastically participated in our Green Banking initiatives and this demonstrates that our endeavours are aligned with their thoughts and goals.
“We remain committed to continue exploring new ways to address the growing challenge of ecological degradation and positively contribute to the environment, society and economy.”
Doha Bank’s Green Banking initiatives, which represent a major component of its Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) activity, include “Al Dana Green Run”, one of Qatar’s largest community events, and the “ECO-Schools Programme”, which is designed to encourage schools in the country to proactively participate in the implementation of sustainable environmental practices.
In addition, the bank has launched “Tree Planting” activities on several occasions in the past.
احتفالاً بيوم الصحة العالمي، واستمراراً لالتزامه الراسخ بالترويج للاستدامة البيئية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية، نظّم بنك الدوحة -أحد أكبر البنوك التجارية الخاصة في قطر- بالتعاون مع كل من وزارة البلدية والبيئة وبلدية الوكرة، مؤخراً، حملة «تنظيف الشاطئ» التي أُقيمت في شاطئ الوكرة العائلي في 6 أبريل تحت شعار «المحافظة على الشواطئ من أجل مستقبل أفضل».
وتأتي حملة «تنظيف الشاطئ» ضمن إطار مبادرة «الصيرفة الخضراء» التي أطلقها بنك الدوحة بهدف رفع درجة الوعي بين موظفيه ومختلف الأطراف المعنية ومجتمع الدوحة ككل بأهمية الحفاظ على البيئية، والتنوع البيولوجي، وتقليل البصمة البيئية.
الاستدامة
وتعليقاً على هذه الحملة، قال الدكتور ر. سيتارامان، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة بنك الدوحة: «لطالما كانت الاستدامة عنصراً جوهرياً في جميع العمليات والمنتجات والخدمات المميّزة التي يقدّمها بنك الدوحة. وقد دأبنا على التعاون بفعالية مع الجهات الحكومية والمؤسسات الرائدة في قطر لتعزيز الممارسات المستدامة من خلال التثقيف ورفع درجة الوعي، والتعاون مع مختلف الأطراف المعنية ومجتمع الدوحة ككل. نحن نأمل من خلال حملة (تنظيف الشاطئ)، والتي قمنا بتنظيمها بمناسبة يوم الصحة العالمي، بأن نكون قد نجحنا في نقل رسالة مفادها أن تضافر الجهود المدروسة الرامية إلى الحد من النفايات ومنع التلوث والحفاظ على التنوع البيولوجي تُعدّ عنصراً حيوياً للحفاظ على بيئة صحية ونظيفة وآمنة. ومما لا شك فيه أن الدعم الكبير الذي تلقيناه من وزارة البلدية والبيئة وبلدية الوكرة كان له دور محوري في إنجاح هذه الحملة. ولذلك، فإننا نود أن نعرب لهم عن عميق امتناننا».
ومن جانبه، قال السيد بريك علي المري، رئيس دائرة الخدمات المصرفية للأفراد بالإنابة في بنك الدوحة: «بصفتنا مؤسسة مالية رائدة تأخذ مسؤوليتها الاجتماعية على محمل الجد، يركز بنك الدوحة بشكل كبير على تعزيز ثقافة الاستدامة للمساهمة في محور التنمية البيئية ضمن رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030. شهدنا إقبالاً كبيراً من العملاء على المشاركة في مبادرات الصيرفة الخضراء التي نقوم بإطلاقها؛ الأمر الذي يبرهن على أن مساعينا تتماشى بشكل تام مع أفكارهم وأهدافهم. سنظل ملتزمين بمواصلة استكشاف طرق جديدة لمواجهة التحدي المتزايد المتمثل في التدهور البيئي والمساهمة الإيجابية في جهود إثراء البيئة والمجتمع والاقتصاد»
