QRCS and QFFD launch development projects in Darfur

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched two new development projects in West Darfur State, with funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

A couple of model services complexes are to be established in the villages of Sisi (Kerenek District) and Abu Suruj (Sirba District). The plots of land were handed over to the contractors, to start immediately the construction works in the two complexes.

Under the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), these developments are aimed at contributing to reconstruction, social services, stability, and return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the war-affected region.

Each solar-powered complex comprises a kindergarten, a basic education school, a secondary education school, a rural hospital, a police station, a mosque, a water purification plant, and 15 housing units.The project involves construction, furnishing, and operation for three years. Collateral projects will be carried out to support livelihoods, economic empowerment, and social peace and harmony.

They are estimated to serve the villages’ 19,115 and 43,720 populations, respectively. The first complex is planned to be completed in October, while the other will be delivered in December.

In 2014, a similar model services complex was established in the village of Arara, Beida District, West Darfur. It provides basic welfare services to the returnees, particularly in health care. With regular medical supplies, the complex’s rural hospital serves up to 100 patients per day.

Other achievements include water and sanitation services, livestock support programs, school and preschool education for 1,000 students per year, security and policing, prayers and religious services, and housing for 15 families of emigrant staff.

Through these diverse efforts, the project was key to the stability of the region, by securing the vital needs of a 28,000 population. QRCS’s representation mission in Sudan has over the past few years accomplished many activities, funded by QFFD and other donors. At a total value of QR37.5m, these projects reached out to over 890,000 persons in the states of Darfur, Kassala, Sennar, Gezira, White Nile, Northern, River Nile, and Khartoum.

شرع الهلال الأحمر القطري في تنفيذ سلسلة من المجمعات الخدمية لتنمية المجتمعات المحلية في إقليم دارفور، بتمويل من صندوق قطر للتنمية، حيث قامت بعثة الهلال الأحمر القطري التمثيلية في السودان بتسليم شركة المقاولات المتعاقد معها الموقع الذي سيقام عليه المجمع الخدمي في قرية سيسي التابعة لمحلية كرينك بولاية غرب دارفور، بالإضافة إلى تسليم الاستشاري الهندسي الموقع الذي سيقام عليه المجمع الخدمي بقرية أبو سروج التابعة لمحلية سربا بالولاية ذاتها، لتبدأ على الفور الأعمال الإنشائية للمجمعين الخدميين.

يأتي تنفيذ هذه المجمعات الخدمية تحت مظلة وثيقة الدوحة للسلام بدارفور وبتمويل من صندوق قطر للتنمية، للمساهمة في التنمية وإعادة الإعمار، وتوفير الخدمات الاجتماعية، وتشجيع العودة الطوعية للنازحين إلى قراهم، وتحقيق الاستقرار بالمنطقة.

ويتكون المجمع الخدمي الواحد من مدرستين أساسيتين للبنين والبنات، ومدرستين ثانويتين للبنين والبنات، وروضة أطفال، ومستشفى ريفي، ومركز شرطة، ومسجد، ومحطة مياه متكاملة، و15 وحدة سكنية. ويعمل المجمع الخدمي بالطاقة الشمسية المتجددة، ويشمل المشروع الأعمال الإنشائية والتأسيس والتشغيل لمدة 3 أعوام، تتخللها مشاريع خدمية مصاحبة لتعزيز سبل كسب العيش والتمكين الاقتصادي وبناء السلام والوئام الاجتماعي.

ويقدر عدد المستفيدين من المجمع الخدمي في قرية سيسي بحوالي 19,115 نسمة من الرحل والمستقرين، بينما يبلغ عدد المستفيدين من المجمع الخدمي في قرية أبو سروج 43,720 نسمة. ومن المتوقع انتهاء الأعمال الإنشائية والتأسيسية بالمجمع الخدمي الأول في أكتوبر المقبل، يليه المجمع الخدمي الآخر في ديسمبر.

ويعتبر مشروع المجمعات الخدمية امتداداً للمشاريع الإنسانية التي مولها صندوق قطر للتنمية ونفذها الهلال الأحمر القطري بالسودان على مدار الأعوام الماضية، حيث نفذ في عام 2014 مجمعاً خدمياً في قرية أرارا التابعة لمحلية بيضة بولاية غرب دارفور، والذي ساهم في تقديم الخدمات الاجتماعية الأساسية للعائدين مثل الخدمات الصحية، من خلال تزويد المستشفى الريفي للمجمع الخدمي بالأدوية والمعدات الطبية بصورة منتظمة، مما مكنه من تقديم الخدمات العلاجية لصالح 100 مريض يومياً من القرية ذاتها والقرى المجاورة ودولة الجوار تشاد.
