NU-Q appoints new director of production and digital media

Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) has appointed Rami al-Badry as director of production and digital media services.

Al-Badry, who left CNN in Washington DC to join NU-Q, brings 15 years of experience as a production and operations manager in leading media organisations in the US, the UK, and Middle East.

As director, he will oversee the department that manages NU-Q’s studios, advanced equipment, and state-of-the-art newsroom so they are operational and ready for students, faculty, and staff. He and his staff also provide production support in classrooms and training for digital media projects.

Dean Everette E Dennis called al-Badry a “consummate and respected professional who has a natural penchant for teaching and training for the digital age.” Previously, he worked at Middle East News Broadcasting Network (MBN) and the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC). He has also done freelance work for ARTE, Reuters, CNN, the National Geographic, and Eurovision, among others.

NU-Q has some of the most advanced facilities and technology in the world.

Its building includes the largest sound-stage in the region; a projection theatre, which features a 4K cinema and 7.1 Dolby surround sound; three production studios, each fitted out to serve a specific purpose; and a studio that has been designed to allow students to reproduce everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other multimedia projects; and a 4K mastering room, which is equipped to completely edit a digital cinema-quality film. It also has a newsroom that features the most advanced technology in broadcast and production.

“Under al-Badry’s leadership,” Dennis said, “this space will become a platform for creativity that our students will use to experiment, create, and dream. Educating our students to harness the power of the digital age, will enable them to engage in positive social change and make a significant impact on their societies.”

وينضم البدري إلى الجامعة قادماً من قناة «سي. أن. أن» في مقرها بواشنطن العاصمة، حاملاً معه خبرة واسعة تصل إلى 15 عاماً، عمل خلالها مديراً للإنتاج والعلميات التشغيلية في مؤسسات إعلامية بارزة بالولايات المتحدة الأميركية والمملكة المتحدة والشرق الأوسط.

وبموجب منصبه الجديد، سيشرف البدري على القسم المختص بإدارة استوديوهات جامعة «نورثويسترن في قطر» وأجهزتها فائقة التطور وغرفة الأخبار العالمية؛ لضمان كفاءتها التشغيلية وجاهزيتها للاستخدام أمام الطلاب وأعضاء هيئة التدريس والموظفين. كما سيوفر البدري -برفقة طاقم عمله- الدعم المتعلق بجميع جوانب الإنتاج في الفصول الدراسية، إلى جانب تقديم التدريب على مشروعات الإعلام الرقمي.

وصف إيفيرت دينيس عميد الجامعة ورئيسها التنفيذي، البدري -الذي جاء تعيينه بعد حملة بحث دولية- بأنه إعلامي «موهوب ومرموق، ويميل بالفطرة إلى التدريس والتدريب في الموضوعات المتعلقة بالعصر الرقمي».;
