EAA & the United Nations Development Programme students in Gaza host ‘Inspire 2019’

Doha: Education Above All (EAA) Foundation’s programme Al Fakhoora in Gaza, successfully hosted ‘INSPIRE 2019,’ inspire hearts, minds and action.
This conference, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) and Qatar Fund For Development and in partnership with Al Nayzak organization, took place on January 31. Organized entirely by Al Fakhoora students, Inspire was a first of its kind annual conference to discuss cutting edge and currently relevant issues in the field of education.
The aim of the conference was to empower youth to speak up and become part of the global conversation on issues in the forefront of education, as well as to share Al Fakhoora students’ personal journeys to becoming active agents of change in their communities.
Farooq Burney, Executive Director of Al Fakhoora Program, said, “Inspire 2019 was truly an impactful event, completely curated and executed by the students of the Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures programme. It’s very inspiring to see dedicated, passionate young minds leading the conversation on such critical, prevailing issues. These students are an inspiration not only to their families, peers and communities but also to us all, demonstrating through their actions how everyone can play a positive role for the betterment of our societies.“
Geoffrey Prewitt, UNDP Deputy Special Representative of the Administrator highlighted the significance of education as a human right that allows youth to achieve their potential, realize opportunities for employment, and develop life skills.
“Education is central to growth and development and has remained high on the development agenda of the international community: education is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Unemployment among youth in Gaza is over 60%. We have to scale up the investment in creating a movement of education and motivate youth to make social change happen”.
Students in large numbers took part in this event, comprising 120 participants from Al Fakhoora programme and 30 from different academic institutions who were trained by seven world-class trainers on the importance of community building through youth involvement. The event was also attended by 300 delegates, including researchers, decision makers, educationalists, and members of the UN, INGOs and local NGOs.
This unique endeavour was developed and planned by EAA students to showcase their achievements as they have progressed through Dynamic Future’s multi-stage inspirational civic leadership programme over the last two years.
The conference featured panels where students discussed thought-provoking topics such as: “To succeed, does intelligence really matter?” and “Can social entrepreneurship lead innovation in education?”
It included an exhibition for invitees to walk through displaying community initiatives which students designed and implemented during the programme, as well as a section showcasing art and featuring cultural activities led by the students, to engage the audience and conference participants.

وعقد المؤتمر بالتعاون مع برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي برنامج مساعدة الشعب الفلسطيني وصندوق قطر للتنمية وبالشراكة مع مؤسسة النيزك حيث تم مناقشة أحدث القضايا والحلول ذات الصلة بالتعليم والشباب.
وذكر بيان صحفي لمؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع ، أن المؤتمر سعى إلى تمكين الشباب من إيصال صوتهم ليكونوا طرفا في الحوار العالمي حول أهم قضايا التعليم، بالإضافة إلى تسليط الضوء على الإنجازات الشخصية لطلاب الفاخورة خلال مسيرتهم التعليمية وتكريسها لتصبح عناصر فاعلة في تغيير مجتمعاتهم.
وشارك في هذه الفعالية 120 طالبا من برنامج الفاخورة، بالإضافة 30 طالبا من جامعات مختلفة، حيث حضروا دورات تدريبية حول أهمية بناء المجتمع من خلال إشراك الشباب، تحت إشراف سبعة مدربين ذوي خبرة عالية، إلى جانب مشاركة 300 من الباحثين، وصناع القرار، والتربويين، وممثلين عن منظمات الأمم المتحدة، والمؤسسات غير الحكومية الدولية والمحلية.
وقال السيد فاروق بيرني المدير التنفيذي لبرنامج الفاخورة، إن مؤتمر إنسباير 2019 حقق التأثير المنشود سواء من حيث تنظيمه وتنفيذه بشكل كامل من قبل طلاب برنامج الفاخورة للمنح الدراسية والتمكين، أو من حيث الأفكار التي طرحها الشباب وعكسوا مدى حماسهم للحوار حول أهم القضايا ذات الصلة بالتعليم.
من جانبه، سلط السيد جيفري بريويت، نائب الممثل الخاص لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي الضوء على أهمية التعليم كحق إنساني يتيح للشباب تحقيق كامل إمكاناتهم، وتمكينهم من الحصول على الوظائف المناسبة وتطوير مهاراتهم الحياتية.
وأشار إلى أن التعليم هو أساس التطور والتنمية، ويبقى دائما في مقدمة الأولويات على جدول أعمال المجتمع الدولي، فالتعليم هو واحد من أهداف التنمية المستدامة السبعة عشر، موضحا أن نسبة البطالة بين الشباب في غزة تصل إلى أكثر من 60 ولذلك هناك ضرورة لزيادة الاستثمار من أجل خلق حركة تعليمية وتحفيز الشباب على إحداث التغيير المنشود في مجتمعهم.
