Cultural events for Sheikh Hamad Award to be held in Jordan

Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding is going to organise several cultural events in Jordan next week to address issues and problems related to translation.

The events also aimed at introducing the launch of the fifth edition of 2019 awards and languages selected for the season. The award’s media team touring Jordan from March 2 to 6 will hold the award’s cultural events elaborating the vision, philosophy and objectives of the award in its fifth season. The team will also discuss the languages introduced for this year.

This tour is part of the tour being carried by the board of trustees of the Award in many Arab and foreign countries to introduce the award to expand the cycle of participation of interested translators.

The Jordan visit will include seminar on Monday at the Shoman Foundation Shoman Cultural Forum on translation and the role of Sheikh Hamad Award in the development and extension of bridges for easing human communication.

The speakers at the seminar will include Valentina Constantine, Chairperson of Shoman Forum, Dr Hanan Al Fayyad, (pictured) Professor at Qatar University and spokesperson of the Award, Dr Emtinan Al Samadi, member of teaching staff at Qatar University and member of Award’s media team, Dr Jihad Hamdan, Chairman of the Association of Professors of English Language and Translation at Arab Universities, and Dr Walid Al Suwairki the translator and academic.

The aim of the seminar is to disseminate the culture of scientific translation from and into Arabic language. In the same framework, the team will hold a symposium.

The second seminar under the theme of ‘translation, global language, the path of understanding and the role of International awards in the advancement of translation’, will be held at the Faculty of Languages at the University of Jordan. A number of academics will address issues related to translation from Arabic to different languages and vis-versa.

The tour will also includes interactive dialogue and open discussing with students of the Faculty of Languages at the German University, along a symposium at the Arab Thought Forum on Wednesday, March 5. The symposium title is “Translation and cultural dialogue, Sheikh Hamad Award as example,” in addition to a special visit to the English Langauge teachers association at the Arab Universities in Amman, Jordan

A memnerdoum of understanding will be signed with the Arab Thought Forum, to promote cultural cooperation and exchange of experiences between the two sides, as well conducting several visits and holding official meetings of the President of the Jordanian Arabic Language Academy and the Presidents of the University of Jordan and the German University.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees of the Award announced earlier this February that it has started accepting nominations for the 2019 edition and will continue receiving works until end of July.

The award, established in 2015 as a global award, seeks to honour translators and appreciate their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the nations and peoples of the world.

This year the award selected Russian as the second major language alongside English, with five new languages being selected in the achievement category: Uzbek, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, Somali and Malayalam. Works will be submitted through the award website www.hta.qa. Form should be filled in accordance to the candidate category.

The total value of the award is $2m divided into three categories: Translation Prizes $800,000, Achievement Prizes $1,000,000, and prize for International Understanding $200,000.

تنظم جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي الأسبوع المقبل في الأردن عدة فعاليات ثقافية مرتبطة بقضايا الترجمة وإشكالاتها، فضلا عن تعريف خاص بإطلاق الموسم الخامس للجائزة للعام 2019 وأهم اللغات التي تتضمنها.

ويقوم الفريق الإعلامي للجائزة خلال جولة بالأردن بعقد عدة فعاليات ثقافية ترتبط بالجائزة خلال الفترة من 2 وحتى 6 مارس المقبل، لتبيان رؤية الجائزة وفلسفتها وأهدافها في موسمها الخامس ومناقشة لغات الدول الجديدة التي ستتضمنها الجائزة لهذا الموسم، وذلك ضمن سلسلة فعاليات وأنشطة تقيمها لجنة تسيير الجائزة في الدول العربية والأجنبية من أجل التعريف بالجائزة وتوسيع دائرة المشاركة للراغبين من المترجمين.

وتتضمن جولة الجائزة بالأردن ندوة تقام الاثنين المقبل في مؤسسة /عبدالحميد شومان/ منتدى شومان الثقافي حول “الترجمة ودور جائزة الشيخ حمد في مد جسور التواصل الإنساني، وسيتحدث بها كل من فالنتينا قسطنطين رئيسة منتدى شومان- كلمة المنتدى/ د. امتنان الصمادي/ عضو هيئة التدريس بجامعة قطر وعضو الفريق الإعلامي للجائزة، والدكتور جهاد حمدان/ رئيس جمعية أساتذة اللغة الإنجليزية والترجمة في الجامعات العربية، والمترجم والأكاديمي الدكتور وليد السويركي، والدكتورة حنان الفياض الأستاذة بجامعة قطر، الناطق الرسمي باسم الجائزة، حيث ستتناول الندوة الجوانب الفكرية والعلمية لنشر ثقافة الترجمة من العربية وإليها في الأوساط الثقافية.

كما يعقد الفريق في الإطار ذاته ندوة في كلية اللغات في الجامعة الأردنية بعنوان “الترجمة لغة العالم طريق التفاهم ..الجوائز الدولية ودورها في النهوض بعلم الترجمة”، ويتحدث خلالها عدد من الأكاديميين، كما تتضمن الجولة عقد لقاءات تفاعلية وحوارية مع طلبة كلية اللغات في الجامعة الألمانية، وإقامة ندوة في منتدى الفكر العربي يوم الاربعاء 5 مارس بعنوان :”الترجمة وحوار الثقافات، جائزة الشيخ حمد نموذجا” بالإضافة إلى زيارة خاصة لجمعية أساتذة اللغة الانجليزية وآدابها والترجمة في الجامعات العربية، ومقرها عمان، فضلا عن توقيع مذكرة تفاهم بين الجائزة ومنتدى الفكر العربي لتعزيز التعاون الثقافي وتبادل الخبرات بين الجانبين، فضلا عن تنفيذ عدة زيارات ولقاءات رسمية لرئيس مجمع اللغة العربية الأردني ورئيسي الجامعة الأردنية والجامعة الألمانية.

جدير بالذكر أن مجلس أمناء جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي أعلن في وقت سابق خلال فبراير الجاري عن إطلاق الدورة الخامسة للجائزة لعام 2019 لتلقي الأعمال المرشحة حتى نهاية يونيو القادم.

وتسعى الجائزة التي تأسست عام 2015 بوصفها جائزة عالمية إلى تكريم المترجمين وتقدير دورهم في تمتين أواصر الصداقة والتعاون بين أمم العالم وشعوبه، كما تطمح إلى تأصيل ثقافة المعرفة والحوار، ونشر الثقافة العربية والإسلامية، وتنمية التفاهم الدولي، كما تعزز دور الترجمة في إشاعة السلام ونشر المعرفة، ودور المترجمين في تقريب الثقافات.

وقد اختارت الجائزة هذا العام اللغة الروسية كلغة رئيسية ثانية إلى جانب اللغة الإنجليزية، مع اختيار خمس لغات جديدة في فئة الإنجاز، وهي: الأوزبكية والبرتغالية وبهاسا إندونيسيا والصومالية والمالايالامية، ويتم التقدم لها من خلال موقع الجائزة www.hta.qa وتحميل الاستمارة المعدة لذلك حسب الفئة المتقدم إليها المرشح.

ويبلغ مجموع قيمة الجائزة مليوني دولار أمريكي، وتتوزع على ثلاث فئات: جوائز الترجمة (800.000 دولار أمريكي)، وجوائز الإنجاز (مليون دولار أمريكي)، وجائزة الإنجاز في اللغتين الرئيسيتين (مئتا ألف دولار أمريكي).
