WhatsApp for Android is about to get the security update we’ve all been waiting for

It’s one of the most popular messaging apps, and now it seems that Whatsapp for Android could soon get an important security update.

WhatsApp messages are already end-to-end encrypted, meaning only those people in conversations can see the content.

However, if someone managed to unlock your phone, they’d be able to read your WhatsApp messages with ease.

But that looks set to change, according to a new update on the Google Play Beta Programme.

The update, which was spotted by WABetaInfo, indicates that v2.19.3 for Android will have a new authentication feature.

This feature will allow users to enable fingerprint authentication within WhatsApp.

WABetaInfo explained: “The app will be completely protected, so the user will need to authenticate his identity in order to open WhatsApp.

“It will protect the entire app, so it’s not used to lock specific conversations.”

According to WABetaInfo, the feature is still in the ‘alpha stage of development’, but will be available in future versions of WhatsApp for Android.
