QM announces Year of Culture photography competition

After officially announcing India as its 2019 Year of Culture partner country, Qatar Museums (QM) has officially launched the first initiative of what is set to be a year filled with cultural and artistic exchange.

The competition, titled “Cricket Contemporary Photography” has invited Qatar-based photographers to submit photos and videos about Cricket for a chance to a prize from Qatar Museums.

Said to have originated in 16th century south-east England, Cricket went on to become one of the most popular sports in India. The premise of the game involves two teams of eleven players playing using a bat and ball. The game is played on a field, at the centre of which is a 20-metre pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.

Photographs and videos submitted for review may depict any location in Qatar where the community plays cricket, including professional or friendly matches that portray themes such as: competition, sportsmanship, passion, loss, and triumph.

Commenting on the competition launch, Fuad Al Mudahka, Acting Director of 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, stated: “Photography has always been an integral part of the Year of Culture program.

Every year we look to photographers to use their imagery to introduce audiences to the cultural elements of both Qatar and partner countries, thus fostering mutual appreciation and understanding between our people. Cricket has long been a sport that ignites passion among its enthusiasts and we look forward how participants can bring that to life.”

Under the leadership of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, QM spearheads the Years of Culture initiative — an annual series of bilateral, cultural exchange programmes with a partner country. It is designed to deepen understanding between nations and their people through mutual exchanges of arts, culture and heritage. The deadline for submissions is March 31 2019.

أطلقت متاحف قطر مسابقة لتصوير رياضة الكريكيت، لتدشّن بذلك أولى فعاليات العام الثقافي (قطر ـ الهند 2019) الذي سيحفل بالعديد من الأنشطة الثقافية والفنية. ودعت متاحف قطر المصورين المقيمين في قطر للمشاركة في المسابقة عبر التقاط صور وفيديوهات ذات صلة برياضة الكريكيت، للحصول على فرصة الفوز بجائزة من متاحف قطر.

يُذكر أن رياضة الكريكيت ظهرت في القرن السادس عشر جنوب شرق إنجلترا، وأصبحت واحدة من أكثر الرياضات شعبية في الهند.

ويتبارى فيها فريقان كل منهما مكون من أحد عشر لاعباً، وتُمارَس باستخدام المضرب والكرة على ملعب مساحته 20 متراً، وفي نهاية طرفي الملعب يوضع مرميان، كل منهما مكون من ثلاثة جذوع خشبية وعصوان، ويُعرَف المرمى باسم «ويكيت».

ويمكن للمشاركين التقاط الصور والفيديوهات من جميع الأماكن التي تُمارس فيها رياضة الكريكيت داخل دولة قطر بشكل رسمي أو ودي، على أن توثّق مشاركاتهم روح التنافس والشغف والحماس، وتسجّل لحظات الفوز أو الخسارة. وقال فؤاد المضاحكة، مدير متحف قطر الأولمبي والرياضي 1-2-3 بالوكالة في تصريح صحافي: «إن مسابقة التصوير جزءٌ لا يتجزَّأ من برنامج العام الثقافي. حيث كل عام ندعو المصورين لإطلاق العنان لمخيلاتهم، وإتحاف الجمهور بالموروث الثقافي الذي تتمتع بها دولة قطر والدول المشاركة في البرنامج، وهو ما يساهم في زيادة التقدير لثقافة البلدين، وتعزيز التفاهم المشترك بين شعوبهما. منذ زمن طويل ورياضة الكريكيت تشعل الحماس والشغف بين محبيها، ونتطلع لرؤية إبداعات المصورين، وهي تنقل لنا هذه الأجواء».
