NU-Q announces new masterclasses

Doha: Professional communicators in Qatar and the region can receive professional training in their fields as part of a series of masterclasses Northwestern University in Qatar will be offering in 2019. As part of its Executive Education in Communication and Media program will feature sessions aimed specific needs in Qatar including health, sport, and strategic communication.

The program is open to individuals working in these respective fields as well as recent graduates and others who are making a career transition to strategic, health or sport communication as well as those for whom this training will have benefit.

This executive, midcareer, and post-graduate education has long been planned by NU-Q to expand on its established undergraduate programme. An inaugural masterclass series on sport, media, and business was presented in spring 2018, but the full-blown programme was organised on the arrival of Dr Jairo Lugo-Ocando, director of Executive and Graduate Education.

“With his leadership, we now have a full set of courses that will be taught be some of the world’s leading experts from academia and major health, sport, and media organizations. In this way, NU-Q can contribute to the growing talent pool of communication professionals and interested laypersons in the country and region,” said Everette E Dennis, dean and CEO of NU-Q.

The Executive Education in Communication and Media at NU-Q will offer three masterclasses during the Spring semester:
Strategic Communication, Reputation, and Resilience in Times of Change (February 10 and 11, 2019; 4pm to 9pm)

Resilience has become one of the key issues in strategic and crisis communications. What strategies do organizations have to implement to confront sudden change? This executive course will examine how to use strategic communications to improve the resilience of organizations and institutions’ reputation.

Sport Communication, Marketing, and Governance (March 17, 24, and 31, 2019; 9am to 3pm)

Examines successful sport organizations that have developed new audiences and revenues around their engagement with sport and how they use it to penetrate emerging markets such as China, India, and the Middle East. It also explores how media mega-events like the World Cup and the Olympics can be utilized to improve marketing opportunities.

Effective Strategies for Health Communication (April 14, 15, and 16, 2019; 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm)

The healthcare industry is being dramatically transformed. Governments, private companies, and non-profit health organizations operating nationally and internationally are facing important challenges and opportunities. Changing demographics in the region and changing patterns in media consumption habits mean that health campaigns and health communication need to be rethought in ways in which they consider the transformation of public opinion and the media technologies in general.

تنظم جامعة نورثويسترن في قطر سلسلة من الدورات التدريبية المهنية لمختصي الاتصال الإعلامي من قطر والمنطقة خلال عام 2019. وتأتي هذه الدورات ضمن برنامج التعليم التنفيذي للاتصال والإعلام، وتستهدف مجالات محددة تشمل الرياضة، والصحة، والاتصال الاستراتيجي. وقال إيفيرت دينيس، رئيس جامعة نورثويسترن في قطر ورئيسها التنفيذي: «تحظى جامعة نورثويسترن في قطر بمكانة ريادية في مجالي الاتصال والإعلام ولديها كادر مميّز من أعضاء هيئة التدريس، وحجم هائل من الخبرات المهنية، ومن ثم تُعد جهة مثالية لتقديم هذه الدورات للمهنيين العاملين وغيرهم من المهتمين بالحصول على تعليم متقدم».

يستهدف البرنامج التنفيذي حديثي التخرّج، ومن هم في منتصف حياتهم المهنية، وقد تم التخطيط له من قبل جامعة نورثويسترن منذ فترة طويلة، وقُدمت السلسلة افتتاحية من دورات البرنامج حول الرياضة والإعلام والأعمال في ربيع عام 2018، ومع وصول الدكتور خايرو لوغو أوكيندو، مدير التعليم التنفيذي والخريجين، وتوليه قيادة البرنامج اكتملت دوراته.

وأضاف دينيس: «مع قيادة الدكتور خايرو للبرنامج، أصبح لدينا الآن مجموعة كاملة من الدورات التي سيقدمها عدد من أبرز الأكاديميين والعاملين في المؤسسات الصحية والرياضية والإعلامية على مستوى العالم. وبهذه الطريقة. يمكن لجامعة نورثويسترن في قطر أن تساهم في تنمية قدرات الموهوبين من المهنيين في مجال الاتصال والمهتمين بهذا المجال في دولة قطر والمنطقة».

يقبل البرنامج العاملين في مجالات الاتصال الاستراتيجي والصحة والرياضة، إلى جانب الخريجين الجدد، وغيرهم من الذين يرغبون في تغيير مجالاتهم المهنية إلى المجالات المذكورة، علاوة على هؤلاء المهتمين بالحضور بهدف الاستفادة.

وسيقدم برنامج التعليم التنفيذي الجديد ثلاث دورات رئيسية خلال الأشهر الثلاثة المقبلة: التواصل الاستراتيجي، والسمعة، والمرونة في أوقات التغيير.

وأصبحت المرونة واحدة من القضايا الرئيسية في الاتصالات الاستراتيجية والأزمات. فما هي الاستراتيجيات التي يتعين على المنظمات تنفيذها لمواجهة التغيير المفاجئ؟ ستتناول هذه الدورة كيفية استخدام الاتصالات الاستراتيجية لتحسين مرونة المنظمات وتعزيز سمعتها.

وتسلّط دورة الاتصال الرياضي والتسويق والحوكمة الضوء على المنظمات الرياضية الناجحة التي استطاعت اكتساب جمهور جديد، وحققت عائدات بسبب انخراطها في الرياضة، وستتناول كيفية استخدام الرياضة لاختراق الأسواق الناشئة، مثل الصين، والهند، وبلدان الشرق الأوسط. كما تستكشف الدورة كيفية استخدام الأحداث الإعلامية الكبرى مثل كأس العالم والألعاب الأولمبية لتحسين فرص التسويق.

ويشهد مجال الرعاية الصحية تغيرات جذرية، وبسبب هذه التغييرات تواجه الحكومات والشركات الخاصة والمنظمات الصحية غير الربحية التي تعمل على الصعيدين الوطني والدولي تحديات وفرصًا مهمة. ومع تغيير التركيبة السكانية في المنطقة وتغيير أنماط استخدام وسائل الإعلام يجب أن تعيد الحملات الإعلامية المعنية بمجال الصحة التفكيرَ في الوسائل والتقنيات الإعلامية التي تستعين بها لتغيير اتجاه الرأي العام. الأمر الذي دعا الجامعة إلى تقديم دورة الاستراتيجيات الفعالة في مجال الاتصال الصحي.;
