QF, Qatar Shell sign undergraduate research co-funding agreement

DOHA: H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) yesterday signed an agreement between QF and Qatar Shell which will see the energy company co-fund Qatar National Research Fund’s (QNRF) Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP).

The signing ceremony was held at QF Headquarters in Education City, and was attended by H E Sheikha Hind and Andrew Faulkner, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies.

UREP supports undergraduate students from universities across Qatar to conduct research under the mentorship of their professors in areas of direct relevance to addressing Qatar’s national priorities. It alien with QF’s mission to develop human capital through investment in education, science, research, and innovation. Under the agreement, UREP will become a QNRF-Qatar Shell co-funded program.

H E Sheikha Hind said, “The value of partnership is illustrated through its capacity to harness expertise, enable the exchange of knowledge, and maximize multisectoral efforts designed to address national challenges.

“QF recognises that building such partnerships can amplify the impact of our mission to support the development of Qatar, and the agreement signed today is a reflection of this belief in the power of collaboration. The co-funding of our Undergraduate Research Experience Program will support young scientists and innovators to pursue and realize their ideas under expert mentorship, equipping them to play their part in developing effective and impactful solutions that help to build a diverse and sustainable economy for our nation.”

Faulkner said, “At Shell, we champion open innovation and partnerships with locally-based research institutions and universities.

“Under the agreement, Qatar Shell will not only co-fund UREP but also provide in-kind support by leveraging the R&D expertise from Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre (QSRTC). This is also aligned to Qatar Shell’s objectives to contribute to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and our shared commitment to foster the research and innovation ecosystem through collaboration and knowledge transfer.”

وقّعت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، والسيد أندرو فولكنر المدير العام ورئيس مجلس إدارة شركات «شل قطر»، اتفاقية مشتركة لتعزيز التعاون الثنائي، من خلال دعم برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين «UREP»، التابع للصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي -عضو مؤسسة قطر- أمس، في المقرّ الرئيسي لمؤسسة قطر بالمدينة التعليمية.

يدعم برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين، كأحد برامج تمويل البحوث في الصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي، طلاب الجامعات في الدولة، ويحثهم على إجراء بحوث في المجالات التي تلبي الاحتياجات الوطنية بدعمٍ من الخبراء المختصين، والتي تتوافق أيضاً مع أهداف مؤسسة قطر في بناء قدرات الأفراد، وإكسابهم المهارات اللازمة، من خلال الاستثمار في التعليم والعلوم والبحوث والابتكار.

وبموجب الاتفاقية، فإن برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين، سيصبح برنامجاً تمويلياً مشتركاً بين الصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي و«شل قطر».

وقد صرحت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني قائلةً: «تبرز أهمية عقد مثل هذه الاتفاقيات لتعزيز شراكة القطاعات المعنية بالدولة، من أجل العمل معاً لتوحيد الجهود المبذولة، وتحقيق أفضل النتائج الممكنة، من خلال تبادل الخبرات والمعارف الضرورية، لتلبية الاحتياجات الوطنية في دولتنا، ومجابهة التحديات المستقبلية».

وأضافت سعادتها: «إن بناء هذه الشراكات وتعزيزها يأتي في إطار مساعينا الرامية إلى رفد الجهود المبذولة لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة في دولتنا، حيث إن التمويل المشترك لبرنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين سيوفر لعدد من الشباب المبتكر والعلماء منهم سبل تحقيق تطلعاتهم بدعمٍ من أصحاب الخبرة، كما سيتم تحفيزهم على تطوير الحلول المبتكرة، وتقديم مزيد من الإبداعات، ما يدعم مسيرة الدولة نحو بناء اقتصاد متنوع ومُستدام».

بدوره، قال السيد أندرو فولكنر، المدير العام ورئيس مجلس إدارة شركات شل قطر: «نحن في شل نقدر الابتكار والشراكات مع المعاهد والجامعات البحثية المحلية، ومن خلال هذه الاتفاقية لن تقوم شل قطر بالمشاركة في تأسيس برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين فحسب، بل ستقدم أيضاً دعماً، من خلال خبراء البحوث والتطوير العاملين في مركز شل قطر للأبحاث والتكنولوجيا».;
