Qatar National Day 2018 events in and around Doha

Darb Al Saai
Qatar Foundation have a tent set up with many activities for the kids and adults. QF’s Stars of Science TV show allows visitors to explore the different inventions created by its participants over the last decade.
Al Shaqab offers a horse-riding simulator, Qatar Biobank provides free health checks to visitors and Qatar Career Development Center is hosting games to help children learn about different careers.
Qatar Computing Research Institute is offering coding games, Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute will teach visitors about renewable energy and Qatar Biomedical Research Institute plans to transform young people into aspiring scientists.
WCM-Q are bringing exciting virtual reality experiences in rowing, cycling and cross training.
The Education City mosque gives an opportunity for visitors to learn the secrets and beauty of Arabic calligraphy and construct a minaretein building with Legos.
Police College have also set up a tent, which will include the Worlds Largest Football in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record and visitors can help make the 33,500 coloured wooden piece model. The model will be unveiled on the last day of National Day celebrations.
Children will also have the opportunity to participate in various police and military training and self-defense activities which are aimed at developing self-confidence and physical fitness.
There are many more activities and stalls set-up by various government departments.
Darb Al Saai will welcome the visitors in the morning on December 13 from 9am to 1pm, while the evening activities will run from 3.30pm to 11pm.
December 14 will be reserved for families from 2pm to 11pm while on December 15 families can visit during two dedicated timings; morning from 9am to 1pm, and evening from 3.30pm to 10pm.
Darb Al Saai will be open on December 16 for all visitors during the morning period, which will start from 9am to 1pm, while the evening will be allocated for families from 3.30pm to 10pm.

Katara
Katara Cultural Village is set to celebrate Qatar National Day with nine-day festivities loaded with varied events and activities for its visitors.
Fireworks display, opera and musical shows, parachuting, drone shows, cultural shows and other fun-filled activities are among the 45 events and activities lined up for this year’s celebrations.
A major highlight of the celebrations is an opera titled “Citizens and expats- we are one,” to be staged on December 17 and December 19 at 7 pm and 9 pm.
The different activities, which will take place from 4 pm to 10 pm, have been distributed to various venues including Katara beach, the Amphitheater and Katara Corniche.
Leading Qatari artistes Fahad Al Kubaisi and Anwaar will perform at a musical show during the celebrations.
Special forces participating in the celebration will display parachute jump on December 17 and 19 from 4 pm.
Following the success of last year’s drone air show, some 500 drones will participate in a 10-minute fireworks show on December 17 and 19.
The Police Training Institute band at the Ministry of Interior will once again perform national music during the celebrations in addition to the participation of the Amiri Air Force.
There will also be a cultural bazaar by Bedaya Centre in the entire duration of the nine-day festivities where a wide range of native products such as clothes, perfumes and traditional cuisine will be available.
A documentary film highlighting the co-existence between different expatriate communities in Qatar will be screened at the celebrations.
The activities will also include art competitions and workshops for children, an exhibition of classic cars, art exhibitions, traditional Qatari dances and cultural shows, among others.

Aspire
Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is organising a week-long series of events to celebrate Qatar National Day.
The festivities will begin with the arrival of Al Adaam Flag Relay, organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee in collaboration with AZF.
A Military Parade by members of the Qatar Armed Forces’ National Service and a parasailing performance conducted by the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) are part of the celebrations.
This year’s celebrations at Aspire will also see one of the largest fireworks in Qatar. This can be viewed across Aspire Park on December 17 from 8:30pm to 9pm.
Other events include a traditional “Ardha” sword dance performed by Aspire Academy student-athletes.
The programme will also feature 16 booths that will offer the chance to try a wide array of food choices and activities, including live cooking demonstrations, pop up photo studios, and henna designs.
AZF has allocated an exclusive corner for children to enjoy a variety of games in collaboration with 7th Heaven Arts Centre.
On the side-lines of the event and in collaboration with Doha Film Institute, films produced by Qatari film makers will also be screened for audiences to enjoy throughout the week.

Other venues
Ministry of Interior has lined up interesting events for expats at various venues:
Over 7,200 students and 1,500 teachers and support staff from 18 Asian schools will join the mega cultural fiesta at Lusail sports Arena.
A mega international cricket tournament with participation of famous cricket players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh.
Indian, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi and Nepali community teams and artistes will display their cultural performances and cultural thematic shows at Asian Town along with musical performances of orchestra team.
The Wakra Sports Club will host cultural parade of 3,000 members of KMCC and other people from Indian community and special events by Indian Malayalee community teams in Qatar.
The Wakra stadium will host a cultural music gala by famous artists from Pakistan.
The Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor will host cultural, folklore shows and musical performances of Bangladeshi, Nepalese and Indian community teams and Al Khor community teams.
Barwa Al Baraha will host cultural performances and traditional shows by Indian, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Bangladeshi community teams and musical performance by Asian orchestra team.
Meanwhile there are other activities for children happening at various malls in Qatar such as Arda Show, stilt walkers, face painting, National Flag making, henna artist booth and many more.
